Title: People are messed up!!!!!!!!
Post by: backyard bucks on December 31, 2011, 07:17:52 PM
well my morning for last day archery started with seeing some F#$CKING puke STEAL my feeder out of the bed of my truck.!!!!!!!!!
first of all i hope you are a member on this site and read this and wanna talk about giving back what you stole..
first of all lake stevens/machias area isn't a huge area and i know what you are driving and I WILL see you again i'm sure.
i was pulled off the side of the road where i have permission to hunt a patch of woods. my son and i made it about 40 yards away from the truck up the hill when a truck drives by slowly and turns around, he pulls right in front of my truck and i tell my son well we'll have company in the woods this morning.. maybe that will help get the deer moving around. i start to turn to continue in the woods when my son says why is he getting into the bed of truck. i turn around to see this guy with a camo jacket on grabbing a feeder that has been in the bed of my truck from several months. i yell out "EXUSE ME"!! LOUD thinking ok we have lots of friends that know us and maybe it is one of them screwing with us... the guy grabs it and move fast to his truck, throws it in the back and yells i'm going to call the game dept AND takes off fast.. at that time my son and i bail to the truck and get in trying to see where this guy went.. but nothing.
FIRST OF ALL.. YOUR A THIEF... plain and simple.
second of all yell what ever you want as you are stealing something from someones vehicle. PATHETIC!!!! call because season is open *censored*!!!!!
it is sad when another sportsman! and i say that lightly will steal stuff from someone else.
unfortunatly this is probably the same puke that stole a tree stand in the same area a couple years ago.. i think i have seen that truck parked close to there before.
sorry for the venting but it has been bugging me all day....
hope some of the bowhunters out there were able to tag out the last day of season..

LOL....  hopefully they open it back up come march. i know they are keeping the okanagon open but the farthest i have run my boat up that river was the train bridge a ways below malott..  :chuckle:

Not cool. People are very foolish stealing from armed folk. Bad things can happen.

yeah it didn't cost me anything cuz i had our sheetmetal shop make them before i went to spokane late season. i gave one to my sister that loves to watch the deer. so i know for a fact there is only one another one out there like it..  but just the fact that people can't keep their hands off of what isn't theirs..  and then to act tough and yell out crap and run. even if he thought in his own mind that we were in the wrong for hunting that land and yelling out like we were the scumbags and was going to call the game dept.. has NOTHING TO DO WITH STEALING FROM SOMEONES VEHICLE. like i said i have seen that truck before.

yep mntmuley looks like i'll be waiting and hoping they open it again or hit the trips above the dam...

Thats pretty pathetic.

But I also think its pretty pathetic how many times I read.If your a member here.Or if it was a member here.I think that most of the people here are pretty good.Honest sportsmen. That the odds that anybody on this board would be the one that is involved in some of these activities is extremely slim.

I just get tired of reading it.

I always say we eat our own.

I would like to believe it is far more likely IF someone else on this board was involved in this senerio the theif would find himself stripped and chained to the back of your truck so he could walk barefoot to cell range, so you could call 911. Of course, since you would forget the # for 911 we'd make him walk another mile. (Or two) (Or three) All the while we would explain how stealing is bad, it makes us mad. And no, we don't care that his feet hurt.

True story. A friend got his car broke into; Chases bad guy in underware down the street to a grocery store parking lot. Police find bad guy; bad guy hits very large angry policeman; ambulance takes bad guy away. As it was explained to my friend theives have low self esteem and when caught they seem to often hit their head repeatedly on concrete or throw themselves down stairs in shame. Nobody understands this phenomenia but it is very common.

(It is also important should a theif be apprehended and ever do this in front of a member of this board to remember what happened.)

That sucks, that's why I chain my treestand, and remove the bottom ladder, unless the thief is 10 feet tall then by all means take it.... Hope you get your property back.... :bash:

I had this happen on Kodiak Is. when I lived there. I left my friend's truck I had borrowed and headed up a steep hill. Got up to a timber strip about 150 yards from the truck and sat down to take a break. I was about to start hunting when I saw a scraggly looking couple with packs on their back walking up the road towards my truck. I didn't like the looks of them so I sat there a minute. Sure enough, they get to the truck and the guy looks around and hops in the back. My friend had a lot of misc. commercial fishing gear in the back. I pointed my gun in the air and touched one off and you never saw anybody move so fast in your life. They ran up the road out of my sight as I ran down. Didn't see them anywhere, but I hopped in and drove to the end of the road and back just to make sure they got the message. Never saw them again. Later talked with a buddy who lives on an Island in the Bay there and he said that couple had set up a tent camp earlier in the summer and were squatting there. Stuff had been disappearing out of trucks at the boat launch and even out of some of the boats anchored in the area, but nobody could catch them.  Hopefully a little fear cured them of their bad habits.

Are warning shots illegal? This is why I'm afraid to get out of earshot of my truck. Stories like this make me afraid I may actually get in trouble for shooting someone's vehicle.

Sorry to hear.  Where about in lake stevens?  What kind of truck? Any plate number?

Are warning shots illegal?

Just to be perfectly clear, I was shooting straight up in the air to make sure I got their attention. I was in no way endangering them.

Hey,  maybe he really meant what he said.  That he's call the Dept.  Maybe you should call and see if anyone called the local gammie about 'baiting' deer??

A warning shot isn't going to injure someone. I wouldn't even aim in their general direction. I just am curious if using the sound to deter someone is legal in the act of protecting your property or if they may cite you for brandishing or some such nonsense.

the warning shot would have to be pretty close for him to notice considering it was archery  :chuckle:
the only thing i can think of is he thought baiting was illegal.. BUT. it was in the back of my truck and never has been used.  :dunno: so for him to get into the back is just plain stealing. that is a good idea to call to the game dept asking if anyone has called in.. i'll do that in the morning.
it happened so fast i just couldn't believe what i was seeing. he had to know it was there since he parked and went straight for it. then bailed like a chicken sh@t!!

Too bad your kid was there then. You had untraceable ammo.

Kidding folks. That's yet another reason why I don't go out in the woods without a sidearm.

It's a crying shame, but it never ceases to amaze me at the audacity of some folks.  I caught a "tool" stealing decoys out of the back of a buddies truck back east last year when I was walking out from my tree stand.  The jerk tried to bs me, and told me I was full of $#it, and to mind my own business.  It didn't work out too well for him, when the rest of the guys 60 seconds behind me showed up.  I hope you get your stuff back, or at least let it be known publicly who this jack-hole is.  Good luck.

I'm really curious as to what your options are in a situation like this. Maybe some of the LEOs on here can answer this, but what exactly are your options for dealing with someone you witness stealing your stuff? Obviously you can't use deadly force unless your life is threatened but can you hold them at gun point for a citizens arrest?

What would be the consequenses of shooting their tires out if they tried to drive away?

I realize that it is probably better to just let them take your stuff, but what could you legally do otherwise?

Researching your rights in this state when it comes to carry laws and the like is a little amazing. You are allowed to act on a huge number of things, not just your life being directly threatened.

:yeah: There's quite a few people on here that live in the Lake Stevens area...how about a description of the rig or better yet, a description of the thief?

I gotta be an a**....wouldn't a warning shot in the air possibly endanger EVERYONE?

Yes, but that's a freak occurrence, not that I condone such action. Shooting a tree 15 yards past and the the side of the individual however would be my idea.

shoot to kill, period. its been a few decades since i went through hunters safety, but i think you are supposed to keep a firearm pointed in a safe direction until you intend to shoot something. use you optics for recon purposes and teach the a-hole a lesson the LEGAL and safe way. my  :twocents:
