I have a 22-250 that needs a scope. What do you all recommend for a scope. I will be hunting open fields with shots being out to 400 yards.

I've got a Redfield 4-12 x 40 in the Accu-range reticle. Great scope for a decent price. :)

Most of my coyote guns have 1x4x20mm or 1.5x6.40mm scopes on them. I call coyotes so most of my shots tend to be closer, 10' to 300yrds. My favorite scopes are a couple of mid quality 1.5x6's a Sightron II and a Burris Signature Select because of their large FOV's on the bottom end and heavier duplex or German #4 rets. My guns shoot flat enough that I can hold on fur to 300yrds so no fancy rets are needed and they tend to make the sight picture too busy for me. I keep my scopes set at the lowest level whenever calling. You can be in wide open spaces and halfway through the stand you get this feeling and look over your shoulder and there is a coyote 10' away looking you in the eye.
I do keep one rifle set up with a 2.5x10x40 Elite 4200. Usually take it when we are going to be doing some spot and stalk hunting, you know driving the back roads and spot a coyote out in the distance. Yet it still has enough FOV to work while calling.
My suggestion is to find a scope with a minimum of a 40' FOV on the bottom end and try and stay in a good mid range scope 4200 3x9, 2.5x10, Nikon Monarchs, Leupold VX-II and above etc. If you feel that your shots are going it be longer go with a rangefinder scope instead of twisting turrets, a coyote is looking for movement and reaching for a turrets will give you away and in the moment of excitement it is easy to forget to turn them back. Same goes for AO's and side focus scopes. KISS goes along way when coyote hunting.

I have a 3x9 on my .243 and it does just fine. as far as reticle goes stay with the crosshairs. I had a 4.5x14 coyote special on my .223 for a while the BDC reticle was pretty accurate with the 55g vmax but i just couldnt get used to the circles. id stay in the 3x9 or 4x12 range and just practice your hold overs. The redfields look like decent glass for the money. Look into the VORTEX scopes they seem to have pretty good scopes and the warranty is awesome. I have their binos and glass is pretty good.

Put a Huskemaw on it  in fact a Used one from my collection :chuckle: ! just saying
Vortex makes a damn good LR budget scope but I dont like the 1/2" MOA per click adjustments

id look at something in the 4-12x range. i got a nikon buckmaster 4-14x40 on my 22-250 and couldnt be happier with it

Intresting coment on the Vortex adjustments. I have two Vortex Scopes, a Viper and a Crossfire, both have 1/4 MOA adjustments as does almost everthing on their sight. The Crossfire is there bottom end scope,I bought one to see how it rank with others. I shot it in an egg shoot and it is a suprisingly nice scope but too much scope for me 6x24x50mm. It's forsale in the classifieds.

VX-3 4.5-14x40mm Adj. Obj.

Leupold 4x12 AO Mark AR Scope.

If you are hunting open areas, like it sounds like. I really like a 6-18 or above scope. I always shoot leupold and love there stuff. I would really look at there vxII in a 6-18x40mm. Its great! you can zoom down to 6 power when calling in close areas and the 18 power rocks for those 300+ yard shots :IBCOOL: I like the 6.5-20x40 even more but a lot more $.

I've got a new varmint rifle I'm trying to decide which scope to put on so I'm glad to see these suggestions too.
Has anyone tried the new Nikon turrets, last time I checked they weren't available yet?
