I bought a VX-II from a friend and the seals went bad on me this year and the scope now has moisture in it :bash:. There’s no warranty since I’m not the original owner so does anybody know if Leupold will be able to clean it and replace the seals for me and what it will cost me? I’ve called multiple times but haven’t had the time to wait on hold so I was just curious if any of you guys knew?

The nice thing about Leupold scopes is they are warranted for life, and it doesn't matter if you are the original owner or the 47th owner.
Is it a Vari-X II or a VX-II? Just curious, they are different. The new scopes are the VX-II's.
Try sending them an email, that way you don't have to wait on hold.

I would think they will fix it, no questions asked. Just send a note about what is wrong, and they will fix it. I would be VERY suprised if you receve a bill.

Thank you thats great to know! And it is a VX-II, 3-9X40mm. I was mad at myself for not spending the money on a new one after it happend but now that I know they will repair it, it was a good buy. Thanks again everybody, I appreciate it!

I sent them this letter back in January of this year. They did a full inspection, replaced the erector, and mailed it back to me 2 weeks later. Charged me $0.00.

Regarding: Request for Scope inspection
Please find enclosed a VX3 1.5-5 X 24. I purchased this scope used as part of a rifle package recently. I removed the scope from the rifle to re-level it and noticed that on the bottom of the scope and forward of the reticule adjustment knobs, there is a worn spot on the main tube. The rifle this came off of is a heavy recoil big bore rifle (chambered in 450 Dakota) and my theory is that the scope may have moved while being fired due to the recoil. At any rate and regardless of the cause, I plan to use this rifle and scope in Africa for Cape Buffalo and I want to ensure the accuracy of the scope has not been compromised. Can you inspect the scope and insure it is in proper working order?

Its good to hear that the company has top notch customer service! Im gonna get on the phone early before work tomorrow and try to get all the info I need to have it serviced.

i got my grandpas leupy binocs when he passed away and they fogged up inside also and sent them in and they sent me a new pair free of charge :IBCOOL:

Leupold does not always have the best optics, dollar for dollar, but their customer service is as good or better than anyone's in the industry.

Send it to them, they will fix it or send you another one. If you lived close enough to drive over they, they have been known to hand new ones over the counter.,..

see thats something i can't complain about. What drives me nuts is when guys pay darn near full price for one of the used ones when they werent worth that when they were new. But 100 bucks, not bad at all. I might even buy one for that.

Mine has made the trip from WA to NH in a U-haul trailer, 4 roundtrip flights from NH to WA each fall since then, and I've carried it all over the mountains with me. To this day it hasn't needed to be adjusted, hasn't fogged, and I can still see through it. ;)
Dad has the same leupy on his, and it has made all the same trips except the U-haul one with no problems.
That's a whole hell of a lot of bouncing around with ZERO problems, and plenty of dead deer for $299...

Leupold is one of the best comapanies out there! I am a huge leupold buff. I don't care to say how many I have but lets say more then a few. Mine have been around the world with me and I trust my life and my hunts to leupold :tup: They will make it right.

The only problem I ever had with Leupold was that it took them way too long to make my turrets. I spoke with a Manager and he promised me 2 days until delivery. Okay I'm smiling now... 2 days my turrets arrive, some idiot made them both elevation and one of them wasn't even close, and one was correct. Called the manager back. 3 days later got both corrected turrets FREE of Charge and a hand written letter of apology.... Even though I wasn't happy at first it worked out great in my favor. They are a stand up Company...

I'm gonna say zero. I'm not gonna dodge it. Every time I put them side by side with other optics in the same price range(in the store and in the field) they can't keep up. So why would i buy one. The fact that so many of them break just seals the deal for me.
then everyone gets all googly eyed over the warranty but a bunch of other companies give a similar warranty.

Well I think it's also a good idea to support an American company, and even more so because of the fact that they're located in a neighboring state.

I'm not sure about getting all "googly eyed" because of the warranty. I can tell you that I've never had a situation where I couldn't take a deer because I have a Leupold topping my rifle. Within the hunting hours allowed in the states I've always been able to clearly see my target and make the shot. Basically, the leupold gets the job done and IF anything was to ever happen it's not costing any owner a dime. I could drop $2,000 on a scope right now if I felt it was necessary, but I don't.

And he is correct, I also own several BSA scopes and their Customer Service is just as good. I actually picked up a Sweet 22 Scope used that had a factory finish issue. They knew it was a factory issue and even though I was the second owner, they had me send it in and sent me a brand new one back. Not as Close as Leupold but just as good service.

That I've OWNED?....zero.
I went to buy a VX-I a few years back and the shop had one of those riflestocks with the rubber mount on top that let you stack one scope on top of the other so you can move your eye from one to the next for a direct comparison......Well, putting a Burris FFII on one mount and the Leupold on the other changed my mind that day.
The Burris was so much clearer and brighter...same price...has lived atop my Tikka 300WSM which has pretty brisk recoil at 6.5lbs and never needed AMERICAN warranty work in Greeley, Colorado.
I have helped a friend replace a Leupold that cost him a nice whitetail.
He mounted the rifle to take the shot and it looks like the scope is filled with milk.
He likes his Sightron SII much better.
BTW nice bucks.

I've been hunting with Leupold scopes since 1980 and have had only one problem with a Vari-X II 2x7x 30mm (which they fixed free of charge in about 1990 and I still own) but every other one that I've had has not had an issue...I've also had 2 pair of Leupy binos, one was stolen out of my truck and I still have the second pair. I got those in 1994 or so. Still ticking and I use them as the "throw behind the seat" pair...
For quality of glass, etc. I use Swaro now for binos and spotter but I still like the Leupy's and will be purchasing a new scope in the next couple of months.

I compared my Burris Fullfied to my kids leopold vari x II and it was no comparison. Unfortunately it was an early light deal and with the Burris i could barely make out the shapes of elk.With my kids Leopold I could tell every one were cows. Dumped that Burris.

A tikka though... C'mon everyone knows those things are too ugly to carry around in the woods. Then you add in all the "weak plastic parts" and the gun will probably fail before the scope. Or so I've heard... ;)

Let me ask you guys this.....how many times do people tell you that there scope is still good?...hardly ever....you just hear about the broken ones and thats what sticks in your head...how many leupy scopes are out there that have never broke?...if they were that much of a problem leupold would not have a lifetime warranty on there products....they back there products 100%...and i back them buy using them..they wouldnt be in the buisness if they lost money replacing everyones scope...i dont know about you but my rifle is a tool...a tool i use and it gets beat up every year...i have had my scope on my gun for 15 years and as much abuse as i have put my rifle through i cant complain one bit about it....$300 for a scope ill use for the rest of my life ....not bad if u ask me

How many folks love Lieca? I do. Just as much as my Leupolds. Guess what, I have had one Lieca product (a range finder) and if failed on me. I had to return it, and they took great care of me - upgrading me a product level. I guess by the logic of some here, because I had an issue with Lieca I should say they make crummy products?
No product will have zero issues. it is what happens when they do fail that can make or break a company.
Also, consider that you will hear about more issues with Leupold than other brands of similar quality, just because the sample size is larger-my grandfather was using Leupold scopes in the 1940's (and they are still covered by the same warrantee as the one I got 2 weeks ago.

I had 2 burris fulfield and used to talk them up. I just recently was shooting at 300 yard gongs with a 4x12 7 year old leupy and a 4.5x14 burris tjats about the same age. No comparison. Dull and dim. I sold both of my burrises and upgraded to leupys.I love them. So to thinkingman. Give it time

Good to hear, my only experience with Leupold service was when I sent my son's Pinnacle bino's in to repair a loose eyecup and they sent back a brand new pair a week later. My Leupold riflescopes have performed flawlessly!
Now on the other hand, my Burris FF has been back to get the reticle repaired twice. Yeah, like Leupold, they have a lifetime warranty, but I'd rather have a scope that I didn't have to send in for repair, no more Burris for me.

LIke many of you, I've been doing this for a long time now. When I was a kid, I had 59$ Tascos on my guns... and they all failed, time and again. AND...TASCO replaced them for Zero $$ each time! However, I was still not pleased with them failing (fogging up inside).
Then I had a hunnert dollar Bushnell that did the same thing. Replaced free of charge. Sold it. I had $175 Bushnell binos that failed... Replaced for Free! My dad, same binos, Fail.. replaced for free!
Picked up a nice older Burris scope at a pawn shop... seals failed... Fixed, recharged, shipping, everything, Free...
My Zeiss binos failed... got a brand new pair, (my others were HEAVILY used and 7 yrs old)...Free replacement.
My dads Leicas had some focusing issues... Fixed for Free!
My dad and I have had 5 different Leupold scopes over the last 20 yrs... no failures yet. Hunting every condition imaginable. Dropped... banged around in truck. For those saying the optics aren't clear or bright... fooey... BS...

i think leupold makes the best scopes.. thats all i use but i choose 2 use swaroviski binos or liecas
