I want to put a turkey barrel on my 11-87. Midway has a 23" camo barrel with a 3 1/2" chamber. Now my shotgun only has a 3" chamber but I only shoot 3" turkey loads anyway so will this barrel still fit my gun. The guy at midway didn't know and gave me remingtons customer service number but they were closed for the night. Wanting to get a barrel ordered soon before they are out of stock like everything else on the planet. Thanks in advance guys.

I Do not think so because the 3 1/2 in. shell is to long to eject from the reciever...
-
not shooting 3 1/2's I'm shooting 3" and don't ever plan on shooting 3 1/2, they just kick harder and don't kill them any better than the 3's.

If it is for the same model gun you should be fine. I have a 3" barrel on my 2 3/4" Wingmaster. Shoots fine and I discovered if I really rack the slide, 3 inchers will pop out of it. If ejected slowly, they catch.

Ya the only thing I can think of that would make it not work is if the piece of the barrel that extends from the chamber and inserts into the reciever of the gun is longer on a 3 1/2 inch chamber vs a 3inch chamber.

Everything being equal, shooting 3" shells from a 3" receiver through a 3 1/2" chambered barrel should be safe. You may lose a bit of performance due to lower pressure.

It should be the same size as it is the bore that is cut deeper and the ejection port is just cut forward more. Disclaimer... I'm not a gunsmith. :chuckle: I can't imagine why it would not work though.

Thanks for the imput guys, I am gonna go ahead and order it and give it a go. If it blows up I am blaming you lokidog! :chuckle: I put a shurshot thumbhole on it last year so with a shorter barrel it should be a killer turkey rig. Kind of a different way of making a gun that you can buy from the factory but I picked up the 11-87 from a guy that wanted a muzzleloader so I traded him ( straight across :yike:) for my OLD night inline. I pointed out that his gun was worth way more than mine but he didn't care he wanted a muzzy and didn't have the money to buy one and that shotgun was all he had to trade :IBCOOL:

yes you can still shoot 3" through a barrel chambered for 3 1/2". its no different than shooting 2 3/4" through a 3" chamber. however, i know you said you dont shoot 3 1/2" but just for clarification, you will not be able to 3 1/2" shells even though the barrel can handle them your ejection port is only big enough for 3"
short answer yes the barrel will work just fine, order it if thats what you want and have fun patterning your new barrel when it arrives

upland, fully aware of the capabilities of the gun but thanks anyways. I gues I should have asked, if I buy this barrel and stick it on this gun and stick this 3" shell in it will it blow up in my face :chuckle: Thanks guys!
