:tup:Congrats

Great hunt.Sounds like you had a good time. One thing Ive done when I'm in a rig and see animals is that I never shut it off anymore.Seems like if they arent spooked already and you dont shut it off. They may not spook. But the second you turn that ignition off. They bolt.Ive been way better off doing it this way for deer and elk.
-
cool deal, good meat in the freezer
-
Congrats on a big cow! :cue:
-
nice job.
-
Well hell, that's a good story! :chuckle: Nice work man.

Good work. Wife got hers tuesday jan 3rd. Bout same size. Fun hunt. Day one didnt see much garbage along the roads. Yesterday noticed beer cans accumulated along the roads. Hope people start paying attention to this. Could shut it down for good.

-
Great job way to fill the freezer!!!

Congrats

I'm interested to see how many cows they took out of the Toledo and Winston with all the special permits.I think I counted up a total of 690 permits possible for theose 2 units.Which all come out of the Winston if you think about it.
Hope they dont do this again next year.
-
I would really like to find out how many Cows were taken out of Winston during this hunt. I wonder if they will have it broke down and let us know sooner than having it in the gamebook??
The harvest reports are usually available online just before the special permit application deadline, if I remember correctly. So look for it around mid-May.

They are trying to completely clean out that unit... Sad really.... Why are they doing this, is it WEYCO's lobbying? It is not management, there's plenty of feed in there for the elk.
-
Go to STEWARTS MEAT MARKET in McKenna to get all of your meat done!!
I say do it yourself and you will be much happier.
AND NEVER take game to Stewarts. You will eventually regret it. Trust me.
Congrats on your cow and time in the woods with family.
-
Yelm, nice job on the cow. I really hope you guys pushed the gutpile off to the side of the road and didn't leave laying in the middle as can be seen in the picture. Spur road or not, just common courtesy

Yes Weyco is pushing for the increased numbers. And Olympia is buying into the lopsided numbers.

Agreed.
-
Makes for better traction when you turn around on that deadend in case your having a tough time turning around lol
-
Why all the guff about a gut pile on a spur road? I like to find gut piles, me thinks elk be nearby!
Nice elk fellas!
-
thats :chuckle: :chuckle: I seen a few gutpiles in the r.d and heads - legs and hides in the Coweeman ... and as far as there being elk around ...well lets just say WAS !!! :dunno: :dunno: :chuckle:
-
Stewarts sucks AZZ!!! Learn how to cut your own meat! Especially if youre just getting burger and steaks. It's easy and will save you the grief of takin it to that hole!!!
-
Haha I know that business! And if you are affiliated with BUTCHES business then you shouldn't be trying to advertise on a subject that any hunter with common sense knows is gonna bring mixed reviews! And who are you to talk about getting me kicked off? Settle down BIG guy and as you would say! Go take a chill pill! If you don't like the reviews on the business then make sure people get their own meat back! I work in the meat industry and I know details!
-
:yeah:
-
Like I said don't run your mouth about a controversial subject and not expect to get negative feedback! I know what I know! And it had nothing to do with here say, and obviously other people here know it as well! I will never recommend that anyone bring their critters to Stewarts! Have a great day yelm!
-
Calm down men :chuckle: :chuckle: you are taken after bowhunter now :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
My, my, my... The web some weave. ;)
-
Some people sure are tough sitting behind their computer screen  :chuckle:
-
On the first page of this thread Yelm Hunter claimed that he used a shovel and pushed the gut pile off the road, now he says that he left it there. In another thread he claimed to be a fishing guide and now he's a butcher.
Growing up in the town of Yelm I wish that he woldn't give our town a bad name :dunno:
Forums are like open conversations at the bar, you can only believe so much and laugh at the rest.
-
That's exactly what I'm getting at! Seems like he's full of it! Claims to be a meat cutter yet has someone else cut his meat! I call bs!
-
I do cut and wrap my own meat... And if you want to talk about my BUSINESS go right ahead because I'll make sure that you are NO LONGER on this website!!!
Thank You VERY MUCH!!!
Not sure who this is directed at, but I will tell you from my own experiences (yes, twice) that Stewarts Meats in Mckenna will never get my business nor my recommendation. I will always suggest an alternative and tell my experiences to another hunter so they don't get shafted the way I did at Stewarts.
As for threatening to make sure someone is no longer on this website...I am pretty sure you don't have the ability or the pull, so no more threats ok?
-
Can we get back to the original question? Seems the hunting was poor, only one cow taken in the Winston unit? I was hoping to see lots of success. During the general season we saw only one elk, a bull, I shot it. I was dissapointed we didn't see more game. My husband had a cow tag and we were sure that would have been filled and not necessarily the bull tag. Don't get me wrong, we filled the freezer and I'm pleased but I enjoy seeing lots of animals also.

Uhh, I hate to pile on, but IMHO, stewarts did not do a great job on a friends elk, and I would personally not take any game animals there for cutting. I do think their fresh meat products are fine.
-
Steen, I filled my winston cow late season tag on day 1....pretty easy hunt, only shot a two year old cow, but it is in the freezer.
-
I personally know of 4 cows taken out of winston on the late hunt so far (Icemans included) so there are critters coming out.
As far as Stewarts, I wouldn't take a 10 year old dairy cow there, because thats the one time I WOULD get my own meat back!!

The only reason Screwus Meats would have good meat is that they STOLE it from a hard working cattle raiser.. I don't buy anything from that puke shop..

For getting sausage, burger or pepperoni made, I went to the Hunt Wa new sponsor S N S Smokehouse this year. He does a great job, meat is fantastic, and he does one person's meat at a time. Never mixed together with other peoples to get a minimum weight of 50 lbs.
PLUS, you get ALL your meat back. Think about it guys....
You take in 50 lbs. of meat to get made into summer sausage or hamburger. There is a certain percentage of fat added to that weight, say making it 60 lbs. Why do you only get 50 lbs. back????? Someone is eating your elk, deer, bear whatever.... Not at S N S Smokehouse. You get it ALL back, your meat plus the added weight of fat, etc.....
-
Another good one is littlerock meats off of 113th. Mike is his name I cut meat for him in the winter months after he gets slammed with wild game! Mike is an awesome guy and he does a great job! He's honest and you get your meat back!

You forgot one. He's a taxi driver as well. :chuckle:
I'm a Taxi Driver in YELM, Washington which is about 15 miles from Olympia. Between Rainier and Roy...

Haha, judging by the look of him I would say that's the most accurate!
-
He works at Cabela's too.
I work at Cabela's and have seen alot of BIG BUCKS including that 2 x 3... He is approx. 19 inches high and 22 inch spread... He is a MONSTER BUCK!!

Hahahaha! Oh my! I'm surprised he had time to hunt! He's busy! :chuckle:

:yike:

hahaha, this funny, yet so true. up till 3 yrs ago, I lived fulltime in roy, 40 yrs worth of stewart stories. fowlweather is right as rain.

I have seen at least three cows from this hunt posted here and I know of a few others that were not posted.
We heard about 30 shots opening morning. I am sure the percentage will be high.
The Winston is loaded with elk but I don't know how many years of permit increases it can handle.
-
Due to time constraints and other responsibilities, I only had three days to take the wife out to look for her first elk....she ate her tag. Today was the only day we did not see or hear elk! Hunting the snow was fun, just couldn't find the animals. We did jump a doe and a nice 2 point buck with a big drop-tine on the left side! We were 10 yards from them when they heard us. We had a good time heard shots every day we went out...thats hunting. :dunno:
-
THIS IS WHY YOU CUT YOUR OWN MEAT .... :dunno: :o I had one bad experience and I never ever let anyone touch my meat ...plus it is fun to do yourself... yeah a little costly to buy a grinder but it pays for itself the first time you use it ...... :twocents:and where did Yelm hunter go :dunno: I think he got run off or something ?
-
He's back!!!
-
Yep and the 1000 line runs for about 1 mile and then it's all Margaret. You didn't get your cow in the Margaret did you?
-
Actually, where the old 1000 line started is now the 517 so if you both killed elk off of the 1000 then you had to be in Margaret.

Hes talking about a different 1000 line. And the Margaret doesnt start till you go over the green river bridge a few miles up the 1000 line your talking about.

Yep! sure am talking about a different 1000 line!! It's right off winston creek rd
-
The same 1000 line that I know of at least 7 cows being killed on from January 1st to the 16th...

Northwest Sausage & Deli is good but all they do is sausage and pepperoni. They don't butcher animals, you have to bring in your boned out meat, clean and ready to go. Which is fine, but apparently some people aren't even comfortable boning out their animals.

Wow, boning them out is half the fun!

Just to let you all know about the post I left on this website with pics and info about me harvesting my cow in a open area for late cow hunt...
My family and I are sick and tired of all of the HARASSMENT from each and everyone of you. I'm not giving any warnings out this is YOUR warning. I have copied everything down and sent it for review and am pressing charges for harassment if you happen to say one more thing to me or about me. I'm sick and tired of it and so is my family... T
Thanks in advance!

Really? :ban:
Generally there is a different way of handling this then threatening everyone. I'm guessing a cooling off period is in order. I expect to be hearing from your attorney.
