by a Bald Eagle :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Went out to JBLM with Low97ram today duck hunting. After the birds quit flying we did some jump shooting. Snuck up on about 20+ ringneck and dropped 2 of them.
Didn't have the dog with us so we had to put the pod in the water to retreive them. as soon as we turned out back an eagle swooped down and stole one of the ducks :yike: and by the time Pete got out there to get the other one, the darn eagle swooped down stole the other one :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
If I knew we were going to be robbed, i would have had my camera ready instead of my gun :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

To bad! but who else has a story like that! Even though nobody will believe you :chuckle:
-
:chuckle: That's to funny
-
After we dropped a couple ducks first thing this morning, the eagle showed up and pearched him self on a tree behind us, waiting for an oppertunity to steel a duck :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: but as soon as the birds quit flying, he left, untill he heard gun shots again :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Tricky bird, I wish you had that camera too!
At least you know who's eating duck breast!
-
Damb birds if it flys it dies you know what should have been done after all you would've just been protecting your property :hunt2: :hunt2: :hunt2:

Beats getting robbed at the ATM.

I've had a hawk do the same thing. I dropped a teal on the far side of the slough and our pup wouldnt swim across. When we got to the other side the hawk flushed out of the cattails and flew off with the duck.

I ya, and I shot a trophy 20x25 deer, but a grizzly came and stole it and they are protected in Washington so I couldn't shoot :chuckle:

Pretty common at Nisqually. You've got to send the dog right away. I folded a widgeon a couple years ago and an eagle caught before it hit the ground. I couldn't believe my eyes. My lab was even confused. This year one of my labs had just turned around with a bird when an eagle swooped down a split second too late. It hovered just above my yellow half way back to the blind. My buddy sarcastically asked while it was happening if I was going to shoot it if it grabbed the dog but it flew up about 10 yds out. That's pretty aggressive if ya ask me. Worse than the eagles at Nisqually are the sea lions. They'll take a cripple before your dog can get to it some days. My son lived in Sitka, AK for about 8 years and had lots of stories about sea lions taking ducks. He even had one grab his black lab one time on a retrieve but let go right away.

:yeah:
I lost a mallard drake this year to an eagle the same way; I had that one down and a bunch work my decoys poped another and went to retreve both just in time to see baldy flying away with it. The next weekend I poped two specks and retrieved both on the way back to the blind I had a flock of caklers gliding in low; boy limited out by 0800 but baldy got in the way he grabbed the lead goose when they were about 50 yards in front of me. Today at the club next to ours I heard them yelling that they lost one in the tall grass; and hour later I was watching baldy circling over the area and bang he was down and back up with a duck.

I've seen it happen multiple times. My son and I were jump shooting a pond we knew had a pintail drake, he wanted to get one mounted, he shot the drake but it flew out a ways before folding up - in swoops a hawk and even with us yelling at it by the time we got to the drake it was beyond taxidermy. :(

Welcome to the site there Jim :hello:
We brought home 3 ringnecks, but Pete did pretty good today out there while I was sitting in the blind with Tim today.
I left about 11 and we did not have one single shot opportunity this morning, it was foggy all morning and could not see crap......
-
I know that's how it's gone this season, we sure missed out on Sat. with the 4 flocks that came over & only 2 of them shootable. Guess we had Goose Fever on them!!! :bash: Wish I could have joined you today but there will be other days B-4 the end of the season. Call in sick & we can hunt during the week!!!! :chuckle:

HAve had ducks taken by eagles also... but 3 years ago sitting in my blind I had some maalrds working the dekes and out of nowhere a blad eagle dropped right in and hit the greenhead.... didn't grab it though and it dropped in the tall grass by the blind. It circled and left... I jumped out and went looking for it... glad I brought the gun.. it jumped when I was about 5 feet away..... Maybe the Blad Eagle was trying to pay me back for others it had taken? LOL

There is a Baldie at Silver Lake in Pierce County that gets birds quite often. It happened to me on 2 different days around christmas. they were the first and only birds that I shot each day. :chuckle:
If I make it out there again this year I am going to try and take a camera.

Eagle tastes just like spotted owl in case anyone's wondering.
-
Well I never thought it would happen to us, but it did!!! We had just jumped 50 or some odd GW Teal, when the dust settled 5 dropped, just as we were about to wade out to get them a Baldy swooped down & picked one up & flew off :bash:
It could have been worse as I popped a mallard next to the bank & one was sitting in a tree not 30 yds, that drake prolly spotted it on his slow dive to the drink & would not even come up for air. Long story short we didn't find that bird.
Was a good day on the river with no company & bagged 4 GW Teal & one mallard hen between the two of us. :IBCOOL:

Wow, this sounds like the Grizzly bears that have associated gun shots with a free meal.
-
Happens to me all the time while seaduck huntin..

Wow, this sounds like the Grizzly bears that have associated gun shots with a free meal.
It sure seems that way Ice, they are like vultures waiting for something to die & yelling & screaming ay them does little to deture them from snatching a free meal.

And now that I think about it, similar to any species not pressured to a big degree by man like in years past......coyotes picking cats up each night in the suburbs.... Cats prowling the edge of towns, wolves eating dogs chained up in the front yard.... Probably a sign of the times.

I bet it was banded with a $100 reward too! :dunno:
