Gettin the Gf a muzzle loader. What should I get her? For rifle she shoots a 30.06. So she can handle a good kick. She'll be mule deer hunting with it.
-
CVA Elkhorn Pro is an awesome gun. Nice and light too.
-
Get her a knight bighorn, I got my wife one, they are superior to any others. Knight disc extreme would be great too but more $$$
-
How much do those guns run boys? Just tryin to get an idea.
-
Got my girlfriend a traditions vortek northwest mag edition. It's light buy I've had lots of problems with it and the customer service at traditions is horrible.
-
Get a traditional style Muzzleloader, less headache all the way around. Your not gaining anything by buying a inline, same range, power just a little longer and weighs a little more.
-
Elkhorn is the way to go  Been very good to me
-
knight big horn 50 cal awesome gun i guess 5 to 6 hundred by now
-
Closer to $329.

$436 for the bighorn with the thumb hole camo stock and for the disc its around 540 ish. very good muzzles I have two plus the Knight t2000 12g my friends gf used to shoot her first deer this year with at 40 yards. I loaded up the 12g with 15- 00 buck pellets and 100 grains of powder. worked great. Go to there web site at http://www.knightrifles.com/tk2000/ . Don't forget to tell them that you want the rifle WESTERN STATE LEGEL
-
The elkhorn runs about 280-320 depending if you want camo or black
-
The knight disc extreme with the western kit is by far a superior muzzle loader compaired to anything on the market. The big horn is less money but also a great gun. Also made in america!!! Unlike the cva or traditions. If you buy a knight you should never have to upgrade in the future. I've had them all. When you pick up a knight you just know it's a solid gun. :twocents:
-
Look into the Traditions "northwest edition". http://www.traditionsfirearms.com/product_info.php?products_id=60
-
another vote for the bighorn it's a accurate solid gun. I paid $399 at wholesale sports in august. http://www.knightrifles.com/bighorn-carbonknight-ss/ (http://www.knightrifles.com/bighorn-carbonknight-ss/)
-
i bought a cva elkhorn and now just want a upgraded gun so Iam going with the knight
it is just a better gun.the elkhorn was a good starter gun but if you want quality go with the
knight. My buddys knight bighorn with 120 grains powder and 290 tmz bullet will shoot 6 inch
groups at 300 yards.just my two cents.

Congrats, that is a beautiful gun I love that carbon knight TH stock. On my 50 cal extreme I use the original 209 bolt with the western breach plug to shoot #11's. I think you will see what I mean when you get your kit, either bolt should work if the 52 cal is the same as the .50
-
knight would be my 1st choice thompson center2nd after that all junk

Yep both will..I see what you mean.Guess my question at this point is how big the "window" that exposes the cap has to be in Wa.. Is there a Min. on the opening that you have to have? The reason I ask is the "window" that exposes the cap is smaller with the 209 bolt then the "window" you get with the bolt that the Western kit offers.
Any Idea?

There is no minimum mentioned in the rules it says 'visible and exposed when in the cocked and ready to fire position.'
This is a picture of the DISC Extreme I sent the State of Washington to get the new design approved.

Mike,
So with that being said you really don't need the western bolt only the 209 bolt set to use the red jackets(not using them though) and then the BP and the nipple to run #11 or musket...right??
-
what you gain with the western bolt is a little more room in the breech area which does come in handy especially if you are going to use musket. It is basically the same bolt only opened up a little bit. If I were to buy a new one I would order it with the western bolt but If I bought one that had the 209 bolt I would just order the proper breech plug.

Not quite right... you can use the regular bolt if you are loading #11 caps with a capper - Musket caps and capper are to large to get in the bolt area.
The FPJ breech plug will not work to mount #11's or Musket caps - you have to have the Western Kit - Breech plug and either a #11 nipple or a Musket nipple installed in the Western Breech plug.
Does that make sense?
Here is a picture...
Here is a picture of the different bolts... Regular bolt on top - New Western Bolt in the middle and old Western Bolt on the bottom
