So 2010 rolled around and my new years resolution was not to buy any guns for the year. I battled through it and ended up meeting my goal. Then 2011 rolled around and i didnt get to spend much time around home due to a lovely trip to afghanistan.
So I've pretty much been waiting to years to buy a new rifle. I wanted something good, really good. Something not everyone has, but still something with a good following. The more I read into it and tried different rifles it became apparent that american rifles werent going to be able to tickle this fancy or scratch this itch.
I liked the Idea of caliber changing, straight bolt pull, and shorter rifles.
After much research and testing I found the Blaser line of rifles to fit the bill the best beating out the MO3, sauer 202, sako, steyr, and heym. It had the best of most worlds and some points that others didnt even have.
I originally ordered the R93 but found a reply from the blaser factory that due to retooling and my caliber choice it would be a 6-7 month wait. :yike: This information coupled with the rescent anouncement that Blaser was discontinuing the R93 line lead me toward the R8 which is supposed to be an "improvement" over the R93.
So here it is, the start of my blaser purchaces, along with the scope I intend to mount first.
Blaser R8 Standard in 7x64 Brennecke with the soon to be mounted Schmidt & Bender Summit Rifle scope

162grn SST From hornady will be my first fodder.
-
S&B
-
This rifle has an option to turn on the red dot in your scope when you flip off the safety, and can change calibers from 22lr to 416 rigby.
-
Sweet!
-
Talley Mounts are available but I'm going to use blaser's own mount which will QD and return to zero as well as swap between any blaser rifles

Have you given a name to that girl yet? :chuckle: Mine is Betsy. :chuckle:
Different make but she still has a name. :chuckle:
Nice!
-
You don't see those everyday...good job and nice setup.
Congrats on really being different.
I never name my guns but my college crush (kinda still is) last name Bleser..pronounced Blazer.
I would get distracted if it were my gun.
-
took it to the hunting house last night and the nay sayers started drooling. They couldnt believe the fit and finish of the work.
-
Did you get mine to you dog :chuckle: Glad to see you got yours. I am still trying to save the scratch for one. The problem is I keep kinding other projects to spend money on :chuckle:

Scope mount came in today :IBCOOL:
The range and I have a date tomorrow.
-
*drool* That is a darn fine looking rifle. Would love to own one myself one day if finances allow for it.
-
She rides nice.
I feel it's like buying a farrari..... but i get to take my fararri to it's top speed. :IBCOOL:
-
never heard of a farrari :dunno: (you mean the car? Ferrari?) Or a blaser, hope its better than GM's version. haha.
Look forward to the range report!
-
I have never heard of that scope company, what is the price range for that scope :dunno:

Quite the combo!

RANGE DAY!!
First Group out of the gun with cleaning and scope removal between each shot. :IBCOOL:
-
very nice! why would you take the scope off after each shot?

Am guessing to see how well the quick detach system holds zero? :dunno:
-
That's a very nice gun, are you going to get other calibers?
-
yeah, that was my guess, just wanted to see the real reasoning.. btw, how far away was the target?
-
To see the return to zero was part of it. Also it made it easier to clean the rifle.
That first group was 50meters. The 100 meter groups, when done right were able to get down to 1/3 - 1/2 moa. Worst not including flyers was about an inch.
That's a very nice gun, are you going to get other calibers?
I'm hoping for a 9.3x62 barrel next but i'd be up for most anything a little heavier or lighter..... like an 8.5 REB or a 375HH or a 22mag or a 22-250. I guess i'm not picky but those are on top of the hopeful list.
-
SEXUAL CHOCOLATE! OMG thats one nice gun you got there!
-
I'll be taking her to the woods this week looking for boar and foxes.
-
Took a walk through the woods today. Heard the pointer jump a pig but it never came into the open. I'll get one with the blaser soon enough.
-
The bolt looks awkward. Just looks like it doesn't go with the rest of the lines of the rifle. Should be a semi-automatic. Has the twenty-first century look, but the designers added a bolt so the old guys would buy it.
-
Sweet stick!

going for semi auto speed without the restrictions placed on semiautos...... like magazine capacity. I'm shooting 4+1, semi autos over here arent aloud to shoot more than 2+1 while hunting.
-
Are they cheaper to purchase on the other side of the pond? I know those rifles and scopes cost an arm and a leg over here. You would be getting close to the $5k mark for the set up.
-
saved about a grand on the rifle. 500 on the scope. and about 100 on the rifle.
-
Unbelievable set up. Absolutely amazing piece of artwork.
I will never own a rifle nearly that pretty, because:
1. It's so pretty I'd be really afraid of scratching it.
2. I've got 5 kids...... That pretty much takes care of my money!
Congrats. You sound like the kind of guy that will really enjoy that amazing rifle.
-
I dont mind scratching the wood(which is actually pretty tought)but i do kinda get an itch from the though of buying a used rifle with scratched wood because my scratches are my stories and memories but those are someone elses.
-
saved about a grand on the rifle. 500 on the scope. and about 100 on the rifle.
I've been looking to purchase another rifle cause my cravings have gotten bad lately. :chuckle: Was looking real hard at Christensen Arms but the more I look at the Blaser R8 my mind is changing rapidly. For the price difference I could purchase two barrels and come in at about the same money. Nice gun and optics and what a group it shot first time at the range. The price on the scope was awesome for a Schmidt & Bender.

Very nice combo.

I was setting up a trail camera and had this rifle leaning against a tree. My dog came sprinting buy right through my rifle sending it flying into a stup. I picked it up, blew it off and sent the bolt forward taking a round with it, I refrained from shooting the dog but the thought crossed my mind. I was confident enough in the scope build to take a shot but i took it to the range today just for grins. It was still right on. Then my buddy proceeded to put this three shot group through it at 100 meters :yike:
-
wow, awesome!

I may or may not be able to shoot that well, I can neither confirm nor deny. lol.
I like having other guys handle and shoot the rifle so they stop hating on it. Their eyes always light up the first time they shoulder it.
-
nice set up . now im jealous
-
Drew first blood today with the blaser.

Wow, nice gun!!! What were you doing in your stand? Jumping jacks?? lol, Nice though really nice!!!!
-
I like it, if your going with a 9.3x62mm I'd keep it Euro all the way and get a 5.6x50 Mag on the bottom(Huntingtons has brass now). I have a 5.6x50R Mag in my combo gun and it is a great coyote round.
-
Euro all the way
-
It's been a good 2 weeks.
Blaser draws blood again.
-
That is a nice pig
-
I would go all euro get the 9.3x62mm, mine is in a CZ550 Full stock and I love it. I also have it in 6.5X55 Swede and the lowly .223
-
Thats a sweeeeeet gun and a keeper for sure ...awesome groups and cool video ...did you use thE Hornaday SST..? I like them out of my .270 but I tried them in my sons 25-06 with a 115 gr and man it dropped his Mule Deer like a bad habit but just blood shot to sheet..
-
Took both the deer and the pig with the sst. bullet held together well enough to pass through on quartering shots on both. No massive exit wounds or fragmentation. Broke ribs on the way in and out of the pig. No blood trail for the first 10 yards or so then blood everywhere on both sides of the trail.
Deer was about 60 yards and as you can see even though it was a bad shot, he was down in about 20 yards. Pig was about 110 yards. Pigs are just darn tough and he when 30-40 yards with his lungs gone.

Waidmannsheil Josh. I still havn't pulled a triger opna blaser yet but have come close. That one from Frankonia had old before they could ship it up here for me to buy. Damn the luck. I will be in Egerstadt for the long weekend though hoping for a Rehbock or a Uberleufer if one comes by. I might have to talk to Bob up at Heidelberg ODR and have hm just order me a new R8. I will be up there for my current class they are taking their Jagdprufung tomorrow.
