Title: Remington 700 SPS Compact w/ scope package .243
Post by: KFhunter on January 17, 2012, 05:33:12 PM
good purchase?

I wanted a new rifle for kids to use, and myself for yotes/cats etc so it needed to be legal for cougar.

It came with stackable spacers so I could stack a few on the end and get my face out of the scope  :chuckle:

I went to cabelas to maybe buy a savage axis youth .243 but after a few dryfires it talked me into checking out a quite a bit more expensive Remington 700

I really liked the trigger on this SPS, X trigger I think it was called. Broke crisp, adjustable and no notable creep
the axis had several hang up and creeped bad.

The scope was cheap as it had a big R for Remington, but the glass wasn't bad at all for what it was, clear to the edges and 1/4 clickers - not bad

So anyways I'll send a few downrange and let ya'll know how I like it.

Scope look similar to this?  I'm assuming it did, the big "R" is for Redfield, not Remington.  All new Redfield scopes are made by Leupold, and are good glass with a full lifetime warranty.

Sorry to hear that, you said big R, and I'm just thinking Redfield, too bad, those Redfields are good scopes, my son loves his.

Wonder why the barrel isn't free floating?

I was farting around with the gun today and noticed the stock has two pads on the very end that the barrel rests on, if I pull down on the stock very much at all the barrel will come away from the stock (or rather vice versa, the stock is flimbsy)

I almost took some sand paper to it right away  :chuckle:

bad idea?

Also, the trigger is not as adjustable as they say it is.  It's not horrid, and for this gun is plenty good enough.  but the adjustment screws are glued shut all except the one on the bottom.  I screwed it out and ya it loosened up a tiny bit, but its still a stiff pull!

Ive sanded those two square tension stud out of the front of 4 or 5 Remington factory synthetics and they have done great.
