Title: chehalis river stealhead
Post by: Martinhunter on January 21, 2012, 12:27:03 PM
Went out on thursday the 19th and had a pretty good day on the river. I cought and released a 12lb native that I couldn't get a pic of without having to take it out of the water so was never able to snap a pic but then a couple hours later I hooked this nice little 6-7 lb hatch. All in all it was a good day on the chehalis for only fishing for a couple hours.

Very nice.  I am wondering what the this snow melt + rain will do to the rivers.  And when they will come back into fishing water?

Who said the rivers aren't in shape? We averaged almost 10 a day for the past 3 days

The key to the chehalis is no matter how high it is as soon as it starts to drop you'll catch fish, I've cought steely's when it was 2.5 ft from flood stage, but it was dropping! I hooked one on new years day this year and it was 4 ft from flood stage, but again it was dropping.

Some of our best plunking down there was right after a big flood.

Yep I grew up and lived in oakville for 17 yrs and for some reason Iam hooked on fishing the Chehalis. I guess it's just a little more of a challenge and when you do catch fish, stealhead that is, it's that much sweeter. Going out  in the morning to fish our high water hole that we usually do pretty good in when the water is high like it is right now, I'll post pics if we get any.....

I heard (second-hand) at the sporting goods store in Port Angeles that there is some new bill that will be introduced that will add a fee to fish the Chehalis and other rivers.  Hear anything or is it a bad, scary rumor?  The guy said it would affect rivers and streams that feed Willapa, Grays Harbor, and along the OP to Neah Bay.  Said it would be $7-$10.  Again just a rumor, and the supposed bill hasn't even been introduced.

If it went to the right things I would pay $100 for it but for some reason I don't think it will.

Those rivers will be all that's left pretty soon...

Well went out today with my brother and fished our high water hole like I mentioned last night and man what a day it was!! It was a record shattering day for us , we fished about 7 hours and went 5 for 6 but 3 of the 5 were nates, I got 1 nate and these 2 hatchery's and my bro got 2 nate's. Just a awsome day on the chehalis river doing some stealheaden with my brother. Oh ya also the water was 3 ft from flood stage today but again it was dropping and the bite was on all day. We also had at least 4 other huge take downs that we couldn't set the hook on so it actually could have been a double digit day.
