That's the way to do it, start out with the basics, make a routine & keep on em every day.
This is my first Lab also & am impressed by their determination.
The reason I picked mine (Ailah) was that she was the only pup (out of 4) that sniffed out the phesant trail (50 yds) & across a gravel driveway, she always has her nose to the ground & eyes to the sky.

Good luck with em.

 All these threads with puppy pictures is going to make me go do something I will regret. I dont have the $ or the time available to give a dog the draining and attention it deserves

I didn't either, after my wife's 14 yr old shih tzu had to be put down in 2010 we decided not to have any more animals but since I am recently retired & a diehard duck & goose hunter I felt that I owed it to myself to get a dog to retrieve my birds for me (I ain't gettin any younger).
Now may not be the time for you but believe me, there will be a time.

Hunting with dogs does bring a whole new meaning to it! I liked hunting ducks and upland but it wasn't a passion until I got my lab and realized what all I had been missing without a dog! They love it so much, my lab knows that when the alarm goes off at 4:30, we're going hunting and she can't get out the door fast enough. You will find yourself going out on days you wouldn't have originally and making time when there shouldn't be any, because the dog is so flipping excited to go... or maybe thats just me  :)

Nice looking pups you got there  but there arnt as smart you think. AS they get older the become "blockheads" and you wonder why they ever made it past the puppy stage   :chuckle:
I have 2 the chocolate is my humting buddy and was sitting in the snow with we o9ver the weekend hunting ducks. When I grab the shotgun to go, he starts jumping and knows its time to hunt. Now my yellow is a lover, not a hunter. She loves to be outside plaqying, camping, hig, etc. but she also luvs to just sit in your lap and lick the hell out you. She thinks she is still a lap dog. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Congrats on the pups.  I need to get a dog myself, tend to lose 50% of the ducks I shot which is always frustrating.  epecially when you clip a wing and they can't fly, but you can't catch them.
