Anyone have a rifle that they want to take hunting but never got around to it either because you just always took the trusty rusty or maybe the gun isn't legal where you hunt, or it is a safe queen etc. What have you not hunted with but would love to. For me it is my Ruger No1 in 264 win mag. I just got it so i have not hunted with it yet and still have to work up some loads since all my ammo is with my other 264.

Winchester M94 chambered in 25-35.
-
I will take my dads 257 roberts out one of these days after deer! Just hard to put down my faithful 300 :bash: Maybe if I could hunt more than 1 week I could do it ;)
-
I dont own one yet, but I would like to hunt mule deer with a Weatherby Mark 5 in .257WBY with a walnut stock. I have always wanted one. I have shot one and seen all kinds of game taken by one, never owned one. Man....
-
Grandpa's 1940's era single shot Savage 219 30-30
Put the 20ga barrel on it last year for grouse, no luck..
-
I did until this last deer season.
My .257 AI is such a pretty gun. Purple heart on the forend and grip cap. Brass in between the walnut and the purple heart, and between the walnut and the recoil pad.
This year it dumped a forked horn blacktail I jumped out of its bed in a clearcut. 2nd jump and the crosshairs settled, and dropped him in his tracks. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

Would not want you to die laughing...... but let me get a pic in the near future and will post it up for you.
-
I'd like to hunt something with a Barrett 50. But I don't have one and most likely never will.
-
458 lott. One day I WILL own one and I would love to dump a cape buffalo or grizz with it
-
Another Savage 219 in 22 Hornet. Have it all ready to go loaded ammo and sighted in just never got it out, been playing with too many wildcats.

sharps 45-70

I have one rifle that my dad gave me and requested I not shoot it. It is a early model 94 and in decent shape. I have had it for 20 years and never shot it. I may ask him to recinde his request.
-
i have been wanting to get a 243
-
.17 hmr or .220 swift for yotes, turkeys and deer!!!
-
My 7mm own I bought last year. I would love to take a coyote with it. I would love to own a 338 edge and take a very long range coyote with it.
-
Funny i just noticed this topic... Just pulled one of my #1s out of the safe tonight. beautiful ruger #1 .270 wby mag. chances are ill never even shoot it. i have a #1 .300wby that i use for hunting. i also have a mint browning lever in .308 i got from my grandpa that hasnt even had a box of shells through it. prob wont ever shoot that gun either. every guy has to have some safe queens :chuckle:
-
Next on the list....a .257 Roberts. Always wanted on....going to get one. :IBCOOL:
-
I would love to get one of those CZ UHR guns that guarantee moa at up to 600 yards. It is in .300 Win Mag and is on of the few of that caliberin their line up. Too much for my budget though...
SR1
-
had it for almost 2 weeks and i havent even shot it yet. :'(
-
Id like to hunt deer or elk with with a big boy one of these days 458 lott 500 nitro ect. just for the reaction when someone asks what caliber of gun your hunting with.

Had a Ruger #1 in 458. Took it out squirrel hunting with some friends :chuckle: The look on their faces was priceless. The laughter after I missed the first squirrel carried on for hours.
Always wanted a Titanium Mountain rifle in .260 Rem.. They don't make it anymore so I'll probably never get a chance. But, man how I would love to take a 450# plus high mountain boar with one.
-
My Remington 700P 308 has been on the Disabled List since the day I got her sighted in. A fatefull car accident ruined her career 4 years ago. she is hoping to make a comeback this summer as a coyote gun
-
had it for almost 2 weeks and i havent even shot it yet. :'(
Josh. You got the R8. Beautiful gun. Did you get it through the R&G club there or else where? And if you don't mind what did you pay? I am looking at a R93 right now.

I skipped the rod and gun and ordered through frankonia since my rod and gun would have to order a blaser through frank anyways. I originally ordered the rifle in in R93 but because I wanted 7x64 and not 30.06 like everyone else on the planet and also because of the retooling over to the R8's the gun was going to take 6+ months to make. That coupled with the news that Blaser is discontinuing the R93 in 2013 made me switch over to ordering an R8 which my buchsemacher was able to get me just shy of 2 months. After the VAT it was 2594 euros.
There are aftermarket barrels available now for the R93 since the patent ran out last year but blaser will stop making parts soon. If i were going to get a blaser R93 i would get one of the makura take downs because they take all the same R93 parts but they are a nicer grade of wood for the same price. they are super nice.
-
Agreed the Makura is a great way to go. Those are beautiful rifles. I seen one on EGun the other day that I was very close to jumping all over.
-
My Dad gave me an Arisaka type 38 jap carbine in 6.5mm. I was going to try and hunt with it this year but found its accuracy really sucked. I dont want to sporterize it since it is an early WW2 relic so I only shot it open sighted. Maybe thats why we won that war :chuckle:. My brother has an M1 garand that would be fun to chase deer around with. Maybe someday.

they arent gonna get any cheaper

just so everyone knows what we're talking about and we dont have to drool alone.

I'd like to buy a Weatherby Mark V Lazermark in 270wby mag. When I was a kid and my Dad was outfitting, 2 of his clients showed up with these guns. The prettiest damn guns I'd ever seen. I was drooling all over them and one guy let me shoot his. I was in 7th heaven for sure and swore I'd own one someday. Now I look at them, and although I could afford one, I just can't bring myself to buy a gun that I'd probably turn into a safe queen.
-
You guys will probably think I am weird, but the 1874 Sharps Buffalo Rifle.
-

I agree with you, or a .45-70. I think it would be awesome to take a big animal at long range with a buffalo gun.
-
i would love to hunt with a 50 cal recoiless
-

Not at all. In fact I had a friend that waited about 3 years for a new one on order. Received it and went to North Dakota and shot a buffalo. Something he always wanted to do.
-
That is so SWEET!
-
I have a friend that bought the Shilo-Sharps and uses it for Pronghorn..I too think it would be sweet to have one. The guns Uberti builds are beautiful!!!
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uberti.com%2Ffirearms%2Fimages%2F1874_sharps_buffalo_hunter.jpg&hash=6326a5caa9e5b43b8fc4338e1a4211c063449dff)
I however, having grown up handling a lever gun, have always wanted to get a browning BLR in something like 308... I think that would be a Sweet Gun! But all in all, I could never pick just one... too many cool guns!
-
a browning high wall ranks up there too.
-
I have a Savage model 99 in 250-3000 that I'd like to shoot a blacktail with.
Also have a single shot with a bull barrel in .280 Rem that I'd like to get out and kill something with. I always just end up grabbing the trusty .300 win.........
-

Oh and Doug, that's not why we think you're weird. There are so many other reasons!

that could be such a cool long range rig.
-
Anything high powered with a Huskemaw scope on it. After seeing that show Best of the West where they are shooting really long range with there Huskemaw scope I want to try one of those out.

I would be afraid to ask how many animals they wound on that show. :twocents:

Probably less than they average opening weekend warrior who only shoots once a year.
-
trophyhunt and i personally know the guys at best of the west, we actually had them up here back in about 02 or 03, they dont ever wound animals, those guys know what they are doing, we got to shoot one of their originals, i made a couple shots at 700ft short of a mile and hit a basketbal sized rock both times, i have done alot of shootn so it was actually pretty simple, having said that those guns and scopes they build take along time and the bullets that you get from them are built specifically for that gun and are very expensive and it requires alot of practice, those guys that do most of their shootn log each bullet that they put through that gun, john their original long range guy shot an antelope on the run at 150yds with an opensight 45 and dumped it, one of the coolest shots i have ever seen, now i got to shoot that gun and so did trophy, i took one shot and handed it to trophyhunt and never shot it again, holy crap it was crazy how hard that thing kicked, and it was amazing how awesome john could shoot it, those guns and scopes they build are worth it, but dont buy one if you cant afford to shoot it, and at 80 dollars for 20 rounds it gets real expensive real fast, shootn long range takes constant practice and alot of common sense oh and a real good yardage finder and you have to be good at measuring m.o.w :twocents:

i have an old double barrel cap and ball i would love to hunt with but I'm scared to death of it so it just sets on the mantle my great great grandpa bought it new way back in the day. i don't think its been shot in over 100 years. i know one of these days I'm going to take it to a smith so i can get a little more info on it. then maybe i can shoot it

I ll give ya that

None
-
I have a Browning High-Wall in 45-70 that has only been to the range a couple times. Otherwise, she just sits in the safe. Would love to Whack an elk with her. But, been archery hunting for over 32 years and just haven't taken her out during modern.
-
My dream gun is a 22-250 heavy bull barrel for 400-500 yard predator/varmit hunting.
-
I would love to hunt Canada moose with an original Model 71 winchester in .348.
-
You guys will probably think I am weird, but the 1874 Sharps Buffalo Rifle.
Good friend of mine has an original. I have shot it, but he has killed several elk with it over the years, know he only hunts with revolvers, but he still shoots the Sharps often. AWESOME gun.
-
My grandfather gave me all of his guns when he passed. One of them was some sort of russian military gun in 7.62 I think. Another was his tried and true '06. Id like to take an animal with both. The russian gun has a dozen notches on the side. Always made me wonder if they were from animal kills or soldier kills.
-
Most likely peasants.
-
Or nazis....
-
I've been researching guns and rounds for a grizzly gun. I find myself facinated with the Lazzeroni Short Magnum Galaxy (338). Been thinking I might have to have High-Tech rifles make me one.
-
.17 hmr or .220 swift for yotes, turkeys and deer!!!
only shotgun or bow and arrow - sorry
-
.17 hmr or .220 swift for yotes, turkeys and deer!!!
can you use a .17hmr for turkey?
nope not in this state
-
ya I went and looked it, dude got me all excited there for a sec lol
would love to use a .17 hmr on turkey
-
those lazzeronis are wicked , but you might aswell step up to the long .338
-
My old man gave me his 45/70 for christmas. I am one of those guys that will crawl through the heavy reprod here on the wet side trying to take an elk or just to get away from the crowd, plus I like ticks, but usually just end up flushing something out to someone else, or chasing game in circles...I have taken elk like this before but every time I enter the jungle I've thought there has got to be a better gun for the job.....that 45/70 with open sites might just be the ticket. I could jump right into the thick stuff and not worry about seeing another hunter for hours or screwing up one of my scoped rifles. For such a big bore its fairly light and feels great in my hands, can't hardly wait to try it.
-
I've never hunted antelope and I've been eye balling a Sako Tecomate in 270WSM, so that's my dream.
-
.250-3000 in a savage 99 for pronghorn :), my retirement hunt? I really like the Yakima tribes pronghorn reintoduction!
-
I have a 1910 Mannlicher 9.5 x 57. (.375 Nitro Express). Was gifted to me and intend to someday work up some ammo and at least shoot the beast. Would be nice to take it on a hog hunt this spring.
-
i'd like to have a big cape staring down the barrel of 500 nitro express
-
I think it would be awesome to shoot anything BIG with a double barreled nitro express!
I read a book one time that talked about the commercial hunting of buffaloes in Austrailia...it was a long time back. The preferred method of hunting was on horseback, and to get the buffalo to charge you. When the buffalo was right along side of you, you would use your rifle like a pistol, and shoot the buffalo in the head. I can't imagine the type of rush that would be! :yike:
-
25-06 or 6.5*284 or 338 laupa

Ugliest looking rifle I've seen in a long time :puke:

John Garands baby. M1 Garand that is. :IBCOOL:

Also have a single shot with a bull barrel in .280 Rem that I'd like to get out and kill something with. .
that could be such a cool long range rig.
I've got a .280 rem heavy barrel for my Encore I'm thinking of running this year if I can build up the muster to not roll the .300wm....feel free to talk me into it. I'll have to decide real soon between a couple scope options.

160 grain bullets get up to the .500's BC. Hit's like an 06 with flatter trajectory and less recoil.
-
280 rem is pretty hard to beat ;)
-
my new blaser is pretty close to a 280. Hopefully i'll have it at the range next weekend. There are a lot of choices for those 7mm bullets.
-
I would love to hunt Canada moose with an original Model 71 winchester in .348.
You read my mind! That's #2 on my list..
Model 88 Winchester in .358 is my top choice. Between my Dad, Grandpa, and I we have every caliber of 88, Pre and Post-64's as well as the carbine's, except the .358.
-
.375 H&H Magnum for Moose or Large Bear.
-
I would also like to take an elk with my mom's 348 winchester. that is one sweet round.
-
Any 338 Win Mag Fans out there?
-
Closer and closer all the time. Might get to take her off the "want to hunt with" list tomorrow.
