Title: Flying Humpys
Post by: Stilly bay on January 26, 2012, 07:32:00 PM
I want to gather a team of experts to figure out how to genetically alter snow geese so they only migrate every other year. this way I can have a whole year of peace from the snow goose groupies...

maybe Im getting hyper sensitive; but this year it seems like the snow-jerks are getting even more aggressive in their "ruin it for everyone else" shenanigans?  I mean snow geese are fun to shoot and all: but I am getting the impression there are some folks out there would run over their own mother for a shot at a goose.  is there a cash bounty on snows that I wasn't aware of? because I know people are not going after them just for dried-out shards of Little chief "jerky".

and don't get me started on the "road hunters" that like to call what they do scouting.... maybe while were at it we could alter the snow geese to have chameleon like qualities so they are harder for a passerby to spot while on his drive to the Foxy Lady.

oh well rant over... and if your an honest, hard working and ethical snow goose hunter you probably already have the reading comprehension skills to determine I wasn't talking about you. keep calm and carry on, I am working on a solution.

Lmao!  or sky carp... Todays large numbers of snows really has unfortunately bred an unethical mentality. It's all about who can get the most geese or bands these days. I miss the days when you could actually set up between two flocks and get some descent pass shooting without worrying about the goose whores marching in from every direction and busting up the flock. Yep I'm done with snow geese, too many geese and too many idiots.

Awesome rant Stilly!!! Good luck with the genetically altered Snows!!!! My guess is there is more than a few who have thought about giving up hunting snow geese because of the circus it turns into!!!!  We pretty much avoid hunting most public access ares just for those reasons.

Funny that you mention that. I was on fir island  and when i walked over the dyke 2 sherrif were talking. I had a couple of questions for them so i walked over. They answered my questions and I asked what area of the island they had the most trouble with hunters, and snow geese. They both chuckled and replied that hunters are not the real problmes on the island... Its all the damned bird watchers... They said hunters are generally concerned about not tresspassing and avoid going into posted areas... They get calls all the time from landowners that have  bird watchers Parking next to thier house and getting out to take pics.  :bash:  Just thought i'd share my little conversation with ya...

This is the first year out of 30 that I decided not to hunt snow geese and What a stress free relief it has been! Lots of snows around but the quality of the hunt will never be the same as it once was. Sky blasters, ground pounders, bird watchers and game wardens going around in circles all day? No thankyou.

I quit that circus some years back. Unfreaking believable some of the things I saw out there. Plus, those brackish water sloughs made my dog smell like doo doo (how's that for a nice curse word? :)).

If we want to hunt snow's we head back to ND in the spring and hunt the family/friends farms. Just bring lots of shells!
