Not sure if this topic is already on here, but figured if not, then it needs to be. So, tell us what your predator gun is and what type of optic you use. Pictures are always great.

I have 2 that I switch back and forth with. My 6-284 puts a serious smack down on them and the other is my recently rebarreled .223AI both are built on Remmy model 700's
My 6-284 has a NF 3.5-15x50 and the .223ai has a 4.5-14x40 Leupy Tactical
-
Rem 700 30-06 grey laminate stainless... I use my 3x9 leopold and shoot 165 grain ball ammo... Not the flattest shooter but i can't hit Chit past 300 yards anyway! :chuckle: If you knickem with the 06 they don't run that far anyway.
-
.22-250 shooting a 52grn speer hp at about 3750
.243ai shooting a 70 grn ballistic tip at about 365o

That is a beauty! I shoot a Bushmaster AR in either 223 or 204 but am not able to consistently hit targets at the ranges that VV does.
-
I am shooting a T/C Encore in .22-250 with a Vortex 4-12x40 scope with the mil dot reticle. Really like this setup.
Sorry for the crappy cell pic.
-
Just picked up a Ruger M77 in 220 swift with a heavy barrel and a leupold legends 5x15 scope. And shooting winchester supreme ballistic in 40 grain only shot it seven times seems to be an extreme fast round. Still trying to figure out the scope focus part of it. I will try to post a pic when i get home. I also have another M77 in .243 with redfield 3x9 and shoot the same ammo just in 55 grain. But for bears I shot 95 grain fusions with it.
-
I use the same gun for predator as i do for big game because that is what I am most comfortable shooting 200+
Ruger M77 MKII in .300 win mag with a leupold vx3 3-12 with a 50mm front, shooting 180 gr hand loads...it will sit anything down where they stand. If it doesn't, just a bad shot made by the user.
-
.300 win mag, all year long!

How does that Howa shot I was looking at maybe getting one in .223 just because ammo is cheaper, but I heard you can get better rifles for the price of a Howa Axiom. Was it worth the money you spent on it.
-
I found mine brand new on Gun Broker from a seller in AZ for $700. It was a scoped combo and came in Kings Desert Camo. I really like it - very accurate, it shoots better than I can. The longest shot I've made with it was only 240yds but I drilled & dropped a coyote with it. Its a heavy pig, even more so with the Harris bipod on it. But everyone who has shot it loves it. I always get people asking about it when I have it at the range, the rangemaster was drooling over it so I let him shoot it. Then he says ' dangit now I have to go out & buy another gun'! I'm not saying it the best rifle out there, for the price or not, but I think its a great gun and works just fine for what I want it for, predator hunting - I dont need to make 1000yds head shots from the fantail of a floating ship with it... :chuckle:
-
I like that gun. I checked one out at sportsman wharehouse they are really heavy but its not a deer rifle your going to pack for miles.
-
.300 win mag, all year long!
:yeah:

For the last 5 years I have used a Kimber varmint with 32gr bitzsking going out at 4184 fps. :chuckle:

BTW - did they change the "quote" feature? Now when I hit quote it goes to 'quick reply' and there is no formatting options like bold or smileys. It hasnt always been that way has it?
-
Whatever gun or bow I have in my hand at that time.
-
I suppose it depends where I hunt and if i plan on keeping fur. My go-to would be my 22-250Ackley Improved with a 6-18x scope. Also use a 257 roberts, 308, Mini-14, and 17 hmr. Soon i hope to load some 100 grain NBT's for the 264.

It works as normal for me.
It's likely in your preferred settings.

OK I think I figured it out - I closed the Quick Reply box at the bottom using the little minus sign on the left. When its closed it does the way I wanted - when its open it does it thru quick reply. That is all from me on this - your normal thread programming will now resume! :chuckle: :jacked:

:yike: Yeeeeoooza, how the heck do ya get a cheek weld on that thing? You must be resting your chin on the comb, otherwise that scope is way too high. And why the 20 MOA base? Are you shooting 1000 yards with that thing?
Just curious :dunno: Not trying to slam ya, it just looks really high. You usually want the scope centerline about 1.5 to 2 inches above bore centerline for maximum benefits and a 20 MOA base is needed for some scopes that don't offer enough vertical movement for long distance shooting but your rifle is really not setup for real long range stuff.
Here is a really good video on how to set one up the correct way. >>>>>>>

Muelzhog here and new to the forum. Love the information. My predator weapon is the Stag Arms Super Varmiter. *censored* gun with stainless bull barrel and a Redfield 4X12X40 hung on it. Harris bi-pod and 30 rd magazine makes it hard for anything to escape. Most accurate AR gun I have ever shot.

savage 243 with a simmons 3-9 or browning 223 with a 4-12 power. love the 243 for coyotes and have enough shell to kill a cougar if one happens to come in or plans change while coyote hunting.

Custom Rem 722 in 22-250 with an Elite 4200 2.5x10x40mm built it for open country and and have found that I haven't had a need for it. Most of my shots are under 200yrds and hardly get over 1.5x on my Savages.

either my smith AR with a 1-4 Leupy or my custom Rem 22-250 with a 6.5-20 leupy or my FNP 45. I've drill yotes with all of them.

It really depends on what you want. Basic gun starts at around $800.00 then add optics and other accessories. I just got one and have about $2800 into it.
-
My 300 Win Mag. cause if I was out deer hunting and saw a coyote that is what I'd shoot it with. :chuckle:

A TC Icon in .243 win. I've been using 100gr SP's bullets I loaded for deer. I need to load some 80gr HP's to save the hides

Anyone shooting the Triple Duce. This was my father's gun that I brought back to life. This is my first coyote. I had to get up at 2:40am and drive for 3 hours but it was worth it.

I've got a Remington 600 in .222 that bever comes out of the safe.
Not mine, but it looks just like this one.

I believe that mine is the Rem ADL the gun is very accurate. The only thing I dont like about it is that I have to cycle the live shells out of the built in clip. There is not a door on the bottom of the clip to open up.
Wondering if a gun smith could cut the stock and add a bottom door to empy the clip?.
When I was in Junior high and not thinking (ie stupid and tired) I forgot to unload the gun after hunting. Brought it home and cycled four shells out. I pulled the trigger and itwent off in the back yard. Obviously I had the gun pointed in a safe direction and blew a hole in the grass in the backyard (lucky I didnt hit the sprinkler system). Something I think about 30 years later every time I unload it.

Have you ever shot your 222. Seems like that gun would be sweet to carry hunting with the short barrel.
-
R15
 NICE! I love those Remington's - I really want an R25 and almost bought one. But now I got into shooting clays so all my money has been going to that. I bought 2 new O/U's instead. 1st I got a Mossberg Silver Reserve Sporting, its a good gun and I like it - but it wasnt expensive enough so I just bought a Browning Cynergy Sporting. :chuckle: Its shipping out today so hopefully by this time next week I'll be shooting a new shotgun! :IBCOOL:
DPMS makes the R15 and R25 for Remington dont they? I think the DPMS Sportical or Panther LR .308 is exactly the same as the R25 minus the camo dip.

If It's a 700 you can just buy another stock with the drop floor plate hole and bottom metal for it I think. Some of the Remington guys on here can verify that.

I've probably put about 10 rounds through it...never hunted with it. I haven't even looked at it in over a year I bet. It is a very compact, easy handling rifle. I'd like to find one in .350 rem mag one of these days when funds allowed and get a twin.

You can buy a hinged floorplate to be cut into your ADL stock making it a BDL. Midway sells them, for one. They aint cheap! Lotsa luck finding a used one. Your odds are better of winning the Lotto!
I had a Winchester Model 70 Bull-barrel Target model .222 years ago. Sold it to buy materials when I was building my house. Sweet shooter. Wish I had it back, but the guy I sold it to would sooner give me a kidney.

Jayrod, How do you like the 6.5x20? My bro inlaw and Cuz have the Nikon 3x9 predator BDC and like it but have trouble with just throwing the rifle up and finding the coyote... How does your scope rate in the "through up the gun and fire" ? Does it help to have the big 50mm aperture?

I'm planning on using my new .223 encore pro hunter in .223. I got a 4-12 Pentex on it. Only issue I can see is its stainless. Thinking of having it dipped. I found I can get the barrel done for $150 any color or pattern I want.

$150 sounds like a pretty good deal. Have you seen the DIY dip kits? I got one an used it on some things, some calls, mags, and a scope. It worked pretty good, the scope turned out awesome - but I dont know if I'd try & do a gun..... I thought about doing my S&W MP40 in digital since it is somewhat expendable to me... but I dont want to bung up a perfectly good gun either.... :dunno:

My current coyote rifle is a Browning A-Bolt with a custom Bullberry barrel in .204 Ruger. In my opinion the ultimate coyote cartridge(I know I’m gonna catch flax for that one!) kills them like lighting and leaves no exit hole... usually! ;)

Nice paint job.

I love the scope! I leave it on 6.5 and I'm good to go. The 50mm is great at dusk and dawn. I had the vortex crossfire before the viper and it had the illuminated reticle. I was worried about low light but the viper is so clear there is no problem at all. Ill put a Vortex up against almost anything out there.

So you don't use the 20 power much? I kinda think that a 3x9 in a hig objective like the 50mm may be better than a larger power. I used a 6.5x20 and had a hard time using the 20 pwr. I couldn't find those damn P-dogs! :bash: :o

I remember that shotgun. That things sick Kain!

Remington 700 SPS Compact in .243 for cougar/yotes or a .17HMR Savage for the bobs
Possibly use a 12ga too in the tight stuff.
don't really have a dedicated varmit rifle but I think this'll fit the bill - I'll be in the woods with shorter shots anyways
can't see the need for a 20 lb rifle on a bi-pod :chuckle:
