Title: Cracked Limbs?
Post by: chukar hunter on January 30, 2012, 08:03:31 PM
I noticed these hairline cracks on the limbs of my bow mid season.  My pin height never changed and the bow seamed to shoot fine, so I hunted with it like this all season.  The bow has always been dry stored, in it's case, never dry fired, not too severe temperature swings.  It's taken it's share of bumps and bruises in hunting, but nothing that I'd expect to cause limb cracking.  It's a 2005 PSE Baby G-Force.  Hairline cracks seam to be focused where the limb splits for the cam and pulley on both limbs.

Do you think I need new limbs or is the bow safe to shoot?  Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Absolutely not!  That's a trip to the emergency room waiting to happen.

I don't know pse's warranty policy but if it were a Martin limbs would be replaced free of charge

Replacement limbs are always cheaper than emergency room visits.

The overlays at that area of PSE bows gets brittle over time and repeated stress.  Usually it is just in the overlay and not the entire limb.  And, I expect the crack in photo three that shows it all the way through might just be through the overlay and then cracking the paint.  But, replacing limbs with the better bow companies today is so easy and painless why take any risk.  Ask yourself, "If this was a gun with a bulging barrel would I shoot it?"  My answer would be, "Heck no!"  So why would you in the off season not replace it immediately?

A new set of limbs always makes me feel like I just got a brand new bow  :whoo:  In most cases for the price of a bottle of Jack!  That's way too good a deal to pass up.

Probably covered under warranty. Get them replaced before you take another shot.

They may be covered under warranty but most likely PSE will not have any more in stock. I asked about new limbs for my 2005 Vengeance bow (just wanted 70lb ones to purchase) and they said they did not have any. They might give you a discount on a new bow or something to help compinsate for the warranty.

It's worth a try. Your other bet would be to look for limbs on Ebay or something like that. There were a lot of Baby-G's sold out there!

Good luck!

My Reflex limbs cracked after Hoyt had discontinued the line. They set me up with a new bow.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

Closure to the story, PSE does not manufacture the Baby G Force any more nor make replacement limbs.  Because of this, their warranty department is sending me a brand new bow!  It's reassuring that a solid US company stands behind their equipment. I am a PSE believer.

The decline of PSE in the early nineties was due to limb breakage and poor customer service.  When they regrouped and Pete Shepley once again started taking control of operations the changes were very positive.  Even some of their old representatives came out of retirement to once again work for the improved PSE.  It's been a real success story.  One of how you can learn from your mistakes and become better than you ever were before.

I love it when Christmas comes more than once a year!  Hope you enjoy the new bow.
