Title: DU banquet questions
Post by: bullseeker on January 31, 2012, 06:29:03 PM
I have been a DU member for some years now and I have never been to a banquet. I was thinking of going this year and was wondering what they are like? I figure some type of dinner and some raffles. Just looking for some input on what to expect. Thanks.

There are quite a few coming up in the next few months.  They can be fun.  I used to be on the committee for a long time.
Some will have a door raflfes for people that purchased tickets and walk through, they have balloon raffles, band raffles, duck raffles, standard raffle etc.  Silent auction and live auction.  Dinner and drinks.
I have won quite a few guns over the years, so it keeps it interesting.  If you go, you will also get your membership updated and the DU magazine.  Bring a friend or get a group to go and buy a table.  Depending on the size of the banquet it can be from 5-8 per table.  Bring the check book or the credit card.

If you're a du member you can go to their website and look at the banquet schedule.

Already a member. Trying to decide which one to go to. The Spokane one or the Pend Orielle.

Go to the smaller one.  Your odds of winning stuff may increase.

I have been going to the Colville banquet for the past three years. I always enjoy it and look forward to it every year. Lots of fun and good people and its always nice to come home with a new gun.

I never see it as anything but a donation.
If you go with expectations of winning a gun, you'll likely go home disappointed.
Go and enjoy the meal knowing you are supporting habitat for waterfowl and other animals.
See it as a bonus if ya go home with something.

I started helping out on the Pend Oreille DU committee about 3 years ago and it is the only banquet I have been to.  Its a good time, wife and kid friendly as we have a ladies table so the women have a chance at winning some non hunting stuff.  We also have a greenwing table to keep the kids excited.  This year we will be raffling off a gun safe and a shotgun, there will also be standard ticket raffles, silent and live auctions and we have some pretty nice merchandise from local artists.  Glad to see you're going to make it, I think you will have a good time.  You can check us out on facebook pend oreille valley chapter for more information.

Like h2ofowlr said bring the check book or credit card. I win a few guns a year 90% go back to DU as a donation. I will let one or two go to new hunters or a family trying to upgrade family guy or gal. I did get a Yetti cooler that I'm keeping for my family.  :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
