I'm going to the Yukon moose hunting!
Oh, oh, I'm going to the Yukon moose hunting.... Seven months from yesterday I will be in camp hoping to see that bull of a lifetime. Let's see, I'd better start exercising, buy new arrows, get shooting more, etc.
My dad is taking me on a dream hunt before he gets too old to do it with me. We'll be heading out with Yukon Stone Outfitters to hunt from Sep. 7 to the 17th.
I guess I'll just put in for ghost points for elk this year, a little less competition for you elk hunters. ;)
-
that would be my dream hunt, thats awesome father and son trip..countdown starts ,,,,now :chuckle:
-
Good for you.
-
You and your Dad should have a blast. I know calling in and watching my Dad kill his Shiras in Montana this fall over shadows all of my hunts as far as a great memory and experience.

Even better is he gets to watch me shoot. :chuckle: He's already put a Yukon moose on the wall.

One of my most favorite adventures with my Dad. We drove up together, travelled in deep together, got the big one, then turned around and came out. Probably some of the best quality time in high quantity that we ever had.

We are driving to Whitehorse then fly in to a horse camp. Here's what comes up on their website.

had the booth next door to Yukon Stone Outfitting at SCI this year. The new owner seems like a good guy, got a lot of experience, and their area is awsome for huge moose, should be fun, good luck.

Great deal Ed,
my dad wasn't hunter ,still I remember to play with him .Bring lot of pictures and mostly have fun and enjoy it ....
regardless of the actual moose head hanging over your fireplace .

No fireplace and low ceilings in my place..... :(
If I get one, I'm planning on doing a euro to start with but will have the cape tanned just in case I can find the funds and the place to put up a head.

I talked with him for about an hour a couple weeks ago and my dad was at the show so he stopped by as well. I'm hoping he will have his guides really motivated to give his guide service a good name. My big question was whether or not the previous guides were continuing with Yukon Stone or he was getting new ones. So some will be returning but some will be new. I guess the plan is to get the new guides up there in June or so in order for them to get to know the areas. Sounds like he has it figured out. I can't hardly wait!

I think your guys's trip will be a life long experience
When you told me about it during our fishing trip, i understood why your user name is "Luck-E-Dog" :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

My dream trip as well. Jealousy is such an ugly emotion!
-
That is awesome man, i got to do a moose hunt with my dad like that in Northern BC a few years ago, and i have gone on several hunts with my dad but moose hunting with him was by far the best hunting experience i have ever had with him.. Here is a pic to get you pumped. this is just a canadian Moose, so the once your hunting are going to make mine look like a spike.. I cant wait to go back and hunt moose the best hands down!.. and you got fairly good rut hunting dates!..
-
Just thought i would throw in 1 more pic to get you pumped up, it was probably the best all around trip I have been on with family, we didnt all get a moose, but it was awesome to go on a hunt like that with my Dad, Brother and our best hunting partner, My bro was lucky enough to smoke that wolf and our hunting partner shot his moose at 17 yards.. mine was 227 across that little lake and he ended up dieing in the lake so that was an adventure just getting that big motha out of the lake.. thank god we had argos, those things are moose hunting machines i tell you, i got some good vid of that thing.. unbelievable the power they have.. Jim Shockey isnt kidding how awesome those argos are.. :chuckle:
-
#1 piece of advice is don't shoot your moose in the water.
-
Sounds like it is going to be an awesome time. I have been on multiple moose hunts and each one of them is an adventure all in itself. Good luck to the both of you.

unless you got an Argo!.. ;)

True true but if the water is deep boy do they sink good.

I dont know about that, mine ran out in the water after i shot him 5 times, all double lungers and one kneck shot, i couldnt believe he made it 75 yards out in the lake.. but he floated, the guide said that each hair on there body is hollow to make them the ultimate swimming machine to help them float better.. if you have ever seen one swim across a lake or whatever they swim up to 25 miles an hour i guess.. this is just what the guide was telling us.. I dont know, i think if they sink, mine would have sank to the bottom cause he was a pin cushion with bullet holes..
-
hollowed hair on the moose usually makes them float, I have retrieved 3 from the water all floating. Black bears float also. Now grizzly bears sink like a rock, that was a cold day, 8 foot to the bottom of the river.

Hey, thanks all you guys! Nice moose pics.
Just got back from vacation and got started shooting with my new arrows. Can't hardly wait!
