Title: Best way to Carry your Pistol?
Post by: newbie76 on February 08, 2012, 08:13:58 AM: I have a ruger lcr that I need to carry around with me at all times during some recent events that have occured. I am not sure what kind of holster I should get. I have been looking at different ones but it is hard to know how they will work in terms of needing to get my gun quickly in order to protect myself if needed. Any suggestions?!?!?

You might consider one of the plastic side holsters that goes on your belt...it will be easy enough to conceal this time of year but a little more difficult in the summer. Good luck.

A little while ago there was a post...maybe in the random thread section.....that showed a female carry option that was basically a bra holster. I'm not kidding. It was apparently an addition or somthing that you could clip in. You would simply reach under your shirt, draw, and either fire from the hip or aim and fire. They showed a gal in action and with a little practice she got pretty smooth and was getting shots off quick.

Something to consider.

Something to consider.

It's called the Flashbang holster. I have one for my LCP w/ Crimson. I like mine Have a few minor issues but I was able to correct it. PM me if you have any questions

the way she dresses makes it very hard for her to conceal anywhere. i think she needs a holster then buy a new gun to fit it...

My wife hates to carry on her side because the grip is always poking her in the side. May I suggest an SOB (Small of Back) holster, or possibly a front cross draw. Most women like snug fitting clothing to show their curves but that can be a problem while carrying a weapon, consider a location and dress style that will compliment the curves yet is favorable to covering up your weapon and still having complete control over it in case you end up in a hands on struggle. I prefer a security style holster that has at least one locking or securing means that will prevent the weapon from becoming dislodged during normal movement. They can be a little slower to deploy the firearm but they will prevent an accidental loss of the weapon if you were to take a fall or stumble. It is your responsibility to keep the firearm safe and concealed at all costs. Quality should never be minimized when carrying, your life may depend on it.

So it fit snugly under your breasts. Works best if you wear an under wire style bra. Only issue that i have really had was the plastic made me hot a bit up next to my skin so i put some mole hair on it and it solved the issue. As of yet i have not had to use it in an emergency. But have practiced and all you do is use your non dominate hand to lift your shirt up some,and pull your gun down out of the holster. So if your shirt was tucked in you would have to pull it up any how. I can wear pretty snug t shirts and it hardly imprints. I haven't timed it but i am able to pull it faster than with any of my other holsters. I haven't seen it in any stores yet. I bought mine online about a year ago and carry daily with it. I like the fact that no one knows And it won't show if you bend over or if your shirt rides up and i can carry with a tank top on. Look online for looper law enforcement or do a search for flashing holster, the same company also has several different holsters geared towards women. They have videos i think on YouTube to get a better idea. I have it for a Ruger LCP with Crimson Trace that I use for concealed carry only. IMO this has been the best style of concealed carry holster for me.

x2 on the crossbreed holsters. They will work for almost anyone. Get a good gunbelt though. Regular belts just don't cut it for long

How do you want tyo carry it ? Nobody metioned a fannypack. My wife carries her 38 in one. I carry my gun in the summer in one. Done it for years.

I think I will invest in the bra one....the last couple days I have had it tucked there is I am wearing the right kind of blouse and it has not been too uncomfortable.

I personally am not a fan. i would not call them quality kydex. fit and finish is average, design leaves much to be desired. i have 12 holsters. the most comfortable is my crossbreed, it is ugly as all sin. My K&D Pocket Defender Deluxe is comfortable and conceals great as is the discontinued maverick. Aker holsters FlatSider Patriot XR20 is good, kinda big lets the grip stick out a bit on full size guns. Tucker gun leather Silent Thunder is awesome, doesn't mar my nicer guns. and for local you cant go wrong with Kramer holsters. only downfall to any i listed is there are wait times.

I will be switching to the the Crossbreed Supertuck can't decide if I should get it for the 1911 or the Glock 23 though. My wife likes the bellyband, but she has a 27. Like everyone else says, dont ever put it in a purse. People steal purses, or they get set down, or left in the car, or carry a purse might not be practical in a given situation like going on a morning run.

I have tried the Crossbreed, the MTAC Monotour, and the Milt Sparks VMII (work of art)(the Crossbreed,MTAC King Tuk and Milt Sparks VMII were compared side to side) and many many others.
The King Tuk was the most comfortable of all of the IWB holsters for my body, and better quality then the other two Hybrids (Crossbreed and MTAC) compared side to side. A buddy of mine doing the same test prefers the Crossbreed for comfort but agreed the King Tuk was constructed allot better.

I use a BlackHawk Serpa II, (2 of them) paddle and belt configuration when in the woods.

I am looking for a good OWB option, if any of you have good results with OWB concealment holsters I would love to hear about them.

You really need to go try a bunch of the available holster types, and various carry positions. For me carrying at the 3-5 o'clock position (IWB) is the most comfortable unless I am carrying offhand, then the 10 o'clock position is more comfortable. How you carry will determine how you dress as well. If you decide to carry (IWB) you will need to buy your pants a size bigger then you normally wear. Either way you will need a very good belt designed for carrying. Most off the shelf belts will not hold up to carrying, a really good (stiff) Instructors belt or a leather belt designed for carry will help distribute the weight well.

You may also need a couple different holster types depending on what you are doing and what you are wearing.

Very good advice Alchase. I carry on my side all the time and only where thick heavy leather belts except out in the woods and then its leg holster. The same type of belts I wore as an L.E.O. under my duty belt.

I use a Galco IWB leather holster and it works good. I get some flak from some friends and relatives for carrying with one in the chamber, and the hammer back, but it's no good with out one in the pipe. Besides, I have been carrying that way for about 15 years.

I would avoid any kind of small of back holster. Can't draw easily if you get knocked down, plus that hard hunk of metal and plastic would do a number on your lower back if you were to fall directly on it.

Guy at Wades says it surprisingly stays on track.. ie. not as much muzzle jump as would be expected from a small/lightweight gun.

Comments? Figure 357 would work well against wolves... Grizzly hope never have to find out.

Want to know if anyone has experience with the Ruger 357 LCR as far as accuracy?
