Went out of town to try a new area. Saturday was slow, I walked my butt off and found one very old shed and one white, and my buddy found nothing. Tried something different Sunday by moving to a higher elevation, and my buddy found a couple fresh browns, so we packed up and drove higher, about 3pm we did one last go at it and hit a home run. My buddy ended up with 8 total, and me 3, he kicked my butt. Most being found in the last few hours before dark, then we had to pack her up and head home. Now that we Know where to find them, next weekend will be a little more exciting. Mine are the 3 on the left in the tailgate pic.

Haha yeah I guess I should have took notes. That last hour of light and with you every 15 minutes... I found another, hey I found another one, really got me to kick it in overdrive, I was all over that hillside running out of light and hope. :chuckle:
-
Nice work bud, real good looking sheds!!
-
Great finds! Maybe benchlegs though? Pines and oaks :chuckle: Here we go :yike:
-
Those are some really nice blacktail antlers! Now you know where to hunt this year!
-
Yeah they are 100% for sure benchlegs, but we are seeing them also and no doubt blacktail. Tried to go again this last weekend but got over there, set up camp, and woke up to 5 or so inches of new snow, so we just packed up and came home. Yeah Bobcat I may go scout it out this year for hunting, but I think they will move up after the melt.
-
Those are some dandy finds right there!
-
nice. wish i lived in your area
-
I knew it would be snowing in the area i shed hunt, but I had to go see for myself that it wasnt huntable. Just like last weekend, too much snow. Instead of just coming home this time we searched below the snow line to find a place to shed hunt. Got a few more, mine are the big white, and small brown. Buddy found a good one.
-
Nice lob Arteman  I'm heading up tomorrow, hope I have half the luck.
-
ya good work man, I need to get the kids out and do that some time. I really want to go try out that area you were telling me about a few months ago..
-
Stayed home today to look for sheds. I found the Deer, my buddy found the Elk.
-
Now that's even better, being that you were in the brush! I spent about 2 1/2 hours tramping around in the brush today and didn't find a thing. I did find a good trail intersection in a good feeding area with tons of fresh deer sign, and couldn't help myself, I had to set up a trail cam. Now at least if I can get pictures of a couple of bucks, still with their antlers, I will have an excuse as to why I didn't find any!

I tell you its SO much tougher over here, those two I found Saturday I found in the first half hour walking, the forky today I walked from morning tell dark, in areas full of sign. Blacktail here have a messed up trail system, you'll be walking on a heavy beaten trail and it ends at a solid wall of crap. Just cant figure out where them things drop them. :chuckle:
-
It really sucks up here because of the snow and the ice storm that we had. I don't think you had it as bad down south? There are trees, tree tops, and limbs EVERYWHERE. What used to be deer trails, or old logging roads, are now covered with crap and you have to detour around. Real pain. But the deer are still there, I saw all the sign. Spent some time looking around himalayan blackberries that have been flattened by the weather. The deer have been feeding heavily on them so I thought I might find an antler in them or around the edges, but no dice. Just hoping to get some pictures now, of what's out there. I'll check it Friday.
-
Yeah we lucked out on weather in my home town, can't wait to check out your pics, your bobcat pics have been pretty sweet lately.
-
Great sheds. I understand a bench buck to be a mule/blackie cross but I see you guys saying benchleg is that the same thing. If so where does that term come from.

:yeah: Yea it's sometimes frustrating when a "blacktail highway " just disapears.
Artman I saw the dog box in the back of you're truck. Is your dog a shed hunter?
-
couple nice finds
-
Turner she is in training, she has found non unassisted yet. She loves playing with them at home and I'm working with her. So far when I see one I tell her to find her bone, and she does, but I've already seen it first. She's young and hope she progresses though. Thanks 400.

Decided to head over Sunday just for the day to look for some sheds. Had a good time and found a few. Once again my buddy schooled me, I found 3 and he found 7, mine are the 3 on the left again in the tailgate pic. Found my best deer shed to date though.
-
very nice. is the spike on the right broke off or just a heavy little dagger?

Thanks, It was actually a nice buck, had a thick base like the bigger one on the left, it has a nice eyeguard then the main beam after the eyeguard was split down the middle and broke off like a splinter. Must have got his butt kicked. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
You guys found ya a good spot I'd say, keep it up! Nice horns and cool pics.
-
Great job! Would love to find some blacktail some day. Love the color of them. Congrats of some great finds

Thanks guys! H2, we left the truck at daylight and when we got back to the truck I took the tailgate pic with about a half hour of light left. My buddy found 6 of his 7 within about 30 yards of each other. He was about 100 yards away at the time and And called saying he found a match forked horn set, I said ill come over and take a atl pic, on my way over he found the broken one, and the dinky fork laying right there also, just after I took the pic he says there's two more, I look up and right in front of me is two 4 pts laying, so i took those atl pics. That's why those are the only atl pics I have of his sheds, if you look in the 6th photo you can see another shed in the background. If he never found that one spot he could have walked all day and only found one. Keeps you motivated and on your toes for sure, and tell the end of the day I don't fully realize just how much ground and how far we walk. Big kids Easter egg hunt. :chuckle:
-
Great sheds! I Just need a little more snow to melt off in the NE Corner.
-
 you guys are on a roll, keep it up!
-
Went solo Saturday and found a few. Not as glamorous as other weekends, but all fresh so not complaining. Couldnt shake the forknhorns. :chuckle:
-
Went Sunday with my brother but tried a little different area. I didnt find any, but He got a couple.
-
Looks like oregon.... Near that refuge
-
Finally found my first fresh Elk shed for 2012 today, not a big one but it'll do. Left my camera home today, no atl pic.
-
Nice one. Would've been a legal bull.
-
Nice finds man!!

Lol thought I seen some viper rays coming from a dark thicket, figured I had found a pretty good weapon though and wasn't to worried. Almost left it on a stump as a gift, in hopes he'd leave a bigger shed for me tomorrow, but my greed got the best of me. :chuckle:
-
Nice mess of horns....looks like you have a good area and I am guessing miles of land traveled....great job.
-
Went shed hunting this morning for a few hours, I found the two old sheds, my buddy found the fresh one. Dont know why I didnt take a atl of the first one, just slipped my mind. It was burried in a soggy draw, seen one tine sticking up and yanked it out.

-
Very nice buddy! Looks like alot of fun.
-
Went out again today after work, My buddy found two fresh, I found one fresh, and one old one. Found them on the same trail about 30 yards apart. Don't know how I overlooked this antler last year, thought I had hit every trail in there but must have walked under it on the hill. In the pic of the four his are the two on the left, mine are the other two.

Atta Boy!

Wanted to try east for some big Elk sheds so i headed over 4-15 and gave it a try. Messed around most the day with no luck, but a couple hours before I had to head home I found a Good MuleDeer spot. Two fresh sets about 30 yards apart. Small fork is fresh also. All those picked up in about an hour and half time. Cant wait to get back and devote a whole weekend to that area. Also that is my first Rocky bull, not much of a shed left there though. :chuckle:
-
4-16 came back home and went out after work for Elk again, found this fresh small five.
-
Wow you've really got the knack for finding sheds!
-
Sweet some nice horns really like that black tail shed

Thanks Bobcat, I'm actually not doing as good as last year for Elk, been doing alright for Deer on the days I can get out of town though. Should see my buddies collection so far this year, he's like the westside version of AntlerKing. :chuckle:
-
Your putting some miles on! Never got the nack down for finding sheds, I guess I would have to go to wintering areas I only have looked in my hunting areas :dunno: Keep it up!
-
On 4-21 I found this decent Mulie, my buddy found the other.
-
Nice! You're on a roll!
So in all that hiking no sign of bigfoot yet?

Good Job on all the sheds!
-
Went 4-23 and had a fun day shedding, found five fresh and my first Elk set for the year.
-
Damn thats a great day
-
Coaching T-ball now my shedding is going to slow down, but yesterday 4-25 it was pouring out so I called practice. My Dad who builds roads in the woods called me up and said he found a nice shed laying in a road that I can have. No practice, and him finding that shed got my blood pumping so I had to go. The first two I found Laying in an old road Ive walked a million times this year, and the other two in in the timber. Sorry about the crappy pics, it was dark under the trees yesterday. The last pic shows the decent 5 my Dad found. I went again today with no luck, either I'm on or I'm not.

Arteman, you are the king of rags this year. Way to pile those things up.

:chuckle: I know right, unfortunately for me I live in an area where quality sucks for everything, I could put in more time and effort than a lot of people and still only be rewarded with these. That last five my dad found is actually a good bull for around here, and finding a six is like finding a four leaf clover, but even then the frame will be the same size with just an extra crab point.
-
Sweet finds been out a couple times recently. My little man found a little four point rag horn and one of my buddies picked up three 5's and my cousin a matched 3pt bt set. But for myself in those two trips a goose egg, well worth it though watching Deagan run to his horn was pretty cool.

That's awesome your little man got to find one, bringing him up good. Took the family up driving today, ran into a buddy of yours and bs'd a while. Didn't find anything, but the kids sat on my lap and got to drive all day so they had fun.
-
Havent been out as much lately, but found one more for the pile on 5-6.
-
I had one more to add to the rag pile, found this guy 5-15 on an island in a river. Hope the next antlers I find are attached to a head. Been a fun year.
-
Awesome atl with the river in the background!
-
Great pic!
