Yes any compound bow with either the stabilizer hole or sight holes will work for a fishing bow. It just depends if you want a drum reel or spinning style reel which mounts to the stabilizer hole. Or the ams reels that use the sight holes on the riser :tup:

As far as a shot there is a couple major factors in this. If you are running a ams retriever style reel "which is the best thing money can buy, for the sport" You will have a standard bottle with 25 yards of line. I have shot fish right at the limit of the 25 yards. Most you shots should be less then 10 yards. I am a cray guy and bought the large bottle/aftermart upgrade and added it to my setup along with 35 yards of line. This is because I shoot some big fish and like them to not yank on the arrow when it gets to the end of the line. So the extra 10 yards lets me fight them a lot better. You do not want a snap back, which happens when you shoot past the limits of your line. The arrow will either come right back at you or break off. Be careful of this!

I use a Zebco 808 http://www.zebco.com/products/808bowfisher.html (http://www.zebco.com/products/808bowfisher.html)and there is another newer one that is even better. The 808 is a old school push button reel and you need a reel seat to put in on. I can fling arrows faster than anyone with an ams retriever style reel hands down.
Here is a picture of the Zebco with the reel seat. You just screw in the reel seat into your stabalizer location. The reel seat also has the capacity to have a small rod about 2 feet long with line guides on it so it is like a small fishing pole.
I have had both and when I go carp shooting I bring the Zebco setup and everyone that I have fished with has switched over. They keep the ams retriever style reel for back up or for a friend who wants to come over and fish.

I see it comes with 80lb braided.... Is that also a standard type of line to use? Sorry- I replied here before reading the other thread. My Mathews is getting old. Just had a cam axle replaced. I'm thinking it would probably do it good to back off the lbs on it to prolong what's left of its' life anyways.
I've started having Andy at Outdoor Emporium take care of my bow after having a popular shop in North Seattle put the wrong string on my bow... and not notice the bent axle while it was in for a tune up.....
Andy's awesome. We hunted ducks and geese together a few times this year.... He's real good on the duck and goose calls too...

The only thing I hate with the push button reels is "forget to push the botton and you are going to either brake a arrow or impale your self" That is the 2 results, lots of people get excited and forget to push the buttom :yike:
The ams you never have to do anything but reel and shoot. Much safer design and that is why I like them and use them with my clients and for myself.

No you need a special reel mount to mount the reel in and run the push button reels.

Good to know for sure. Last time i used a Zebco, it was a Barbie Doll reel and just like you said, I kept forgetting to push the button...
