Does anyone know where to get some birds for training with (pigeons or gamebirds) in the Tacoma / Puget Sound area?
-
I remember when I was looking at training my English Setters you could get carded pigeons online. The money was in the throwers which I thought were a little too expensive for me. One person actually had homing pigeons that he used and the best part was that when the birds flew they went back to their roost and he could use them again.

Do you have any contact info for sandy's birds?

There is a bird auction in Chehalis.... I think every Saturday? Maybe someone has some information.
There is every possible bird you can think of for sale on craigslist. prices usualy stink but, if you're only buying one bird... can't get a deal unless you buy in bulk. Pigeons typically sell for $3.50 but, you always have to buy at least 300 for that price. Maybe $4 if you buy less.

Thanks guys. Is there anything I should look out for when buying birds?
-
Well this time of year its much easier to buy chicks than full grown. Chuckar always seem harder to get, and pheasant and ducks are pretty expensive. Pigeons seem to be the cheap stand by since they can be trapped year round to get "full size" birds. I have used dead birds for training, just make sure to put them back in the freezer before they get too thawed out. :chuckle: Find a buddy to save bird wings for ya...

That's all I really need are a couple. Dead ones to freeze

I have a couple I can spare and a bunch of frozen birds. I'll be around the next few days all day.
