I am thinking about buying a street legal bike or a moped to save money. The gas prices are climbing so we got to do something to save gas :bash: :twocents:. With my ford explorer, I get better mileage (17 mpg average) having studs on and driving pavement in the winter compared to 14 mpg in the summer going up in the hills on dirt and gravel.
-
I plan on using the heavy foot more often. I never get better than 17 anyway so I may as well help offset all the carbon dioxide I breathe. We better go to iran or the doomsday gas people will be proven wrong again. I love how gas is supposed to be a dollar more than they wrongly predicted last year. I bet if they scare enough people they can charge more for gas when there's less demand than ever before from us.
-
They already have.
-
Buy a smaller truck .....If I had my f-350 I doubt I would be going anywhere..... :dunno:
-
I just do less, fuel prices kept me from trapping this year.scouting trips are coupled with woodcutting,if Im not to pooped or hurting.my silverado get 15mpg which isnt bad for putting around but it adds up in a hurry.better planning,we wait to check the mail till we need to go to town.Funny I wanted a load of tagro,so i waited until my grandaughters birthday which wasnt far off.they live in tacoma, and the tagro isnt far from their home.I showed up to my son's house with a load ...PEEE YEW :chuckle: :chuckle:

pretty much...I currently walk or take the shuttle mostly...drive to the store but I am either home or in the studios or at school...short of no longer existing I have kinda run out of cuts to make to gas usage

Voting Republican in November
-
I vividly remember as a teenager seeing a very old lady driving a car with a bumper sticker that read "Save Gas - Fart in a Jar". I'm pretty sure some prankster stuck it there. :chuckle:
-
I do a lot more 'camping'. Instead of driving home from one day of scouting, I just find a place to pull in and camp for the night so I can scout the next day. It beats all the extra driving with the additional sleep anyways.
-
The last two or three years I've been doing all my hunting close to home. Used to go to eastern Wa all the time, for both scouting and hunting trips. Sure do miss it, but I've also really been enjoying the fact that I can scout at least once a week, all from home. The furthest hunting spot this year from home was seven miles away, a 15 minute drive.
-
Nothing. Life as usual.
-
Ride my motorcycle when it gets warm enough

No kidding.

ride my horse to the store in town.take a pack horse also.it is 8 miles to town.if i get in front of the a#$ holes on their bikes all the more better.
-
I will do nothing more than I do now. I drive smart and don't make unnecessary trips. I try to combine route/destination all the time. I do ride my dual purpose Yamaha to work when the weather gets nice. 65mpg!

-
Drive a big, heavy, safe gas guzzler that runs on the tears of baby seals. to keep my family safe. If you think driving a Chevy Volt.to.save .few mpg is.worth it, go read a news story about the medical bills of a family plowed by some drunk illegal alien with no auto insurance. Al Gore can take his.hoax and stuff it up the tail pipe of HIS gas guzzling SUV.
-
I'm. Going to ride the klr alot more. :IBCOOL:
-
I hunt closer to home. Usually combine my coyote/bird hunting trips to E wa with my work trips so i don't pay for much fuel. I got a Subaru brat just for commuting to work 30mpg. I love those $35 fill ups, compared to when i fill up the 1 ton dodge for $125 for the big D.

"Staycation" - a new word thanks to high prices.

Yea never seen this before. :)

I am going to sell my motor home. Just not feeling like investing all the money into fuel. Probably replace it with a camper trailer. Then buy a prius to pull it. :yike:

Voting Republican in November
Yeah, because gas stayed so cheap under Bush. Free markets and deregulation have worked wonders in the energy markets before.
I won't change a thing. For the last few years I've been driving my car instead of my truck as much as possible. The car gets almost 40mpg so I don't even look at the price of gas when I fill up.
-
Since my truck has been parked 3,000 miles away for the last 4 years, I've been driving a toyota corolla. I spend roughly $35 a month on gas (1 fill-up) for all my driving. Now that we are going back to the states, I'm thinking about parking the truck and purchasing another toyota corolla. I'll still have the truck in the garage for towing/hunting/camping etc..., but I'll be driving a car around and saving $400 a month. For those of you who are saying "I'm not changing a thing", I hope you've got some deep pockets because high gas prices are here to stay. You can vote democrat or republican...hell you could vote your best friend in to office, gas prices will continue to do what they have been doing. It's funny, demand was reduced in the US so they reduce output and keep the price up. Now they say demand in the US is so much lower than pre 2008 levels, but the reason gas prices remain high is because the demand in China. BS! I'm not sure what excuse they'll come up with next, but I'm not going to be driving around something that gets 14mpg while waiting to find out.
-
Domestic production, free markets and deregulation have worked in the natural gas market pretty darned good. And, as I remember it, Bush lifted the moratorium on off shore drilling in the gulf and fuel prices went down. Even with two wars going on. What has this socialist, black theology, far left liberal we have in office done?
Why is it so many Democrates think sending our petroleum dollars to countries that hate us is more eco-friendly than keeping it here in North America? Canada and the US are two of, if not the most, eco-concious countries in the world. We can definitely do it better and safer given the chance. And, if drilling domestically, we can add additional excise taxes that will support alternative fuel research while still controlling the cost of personal civilian fuels until those alternatives are viable.
It would also create damn good jobs here at home. Not the seasonal tax dollar supported census, community organizing jobs we've seen from this administration so far. We are talking high wage Union, right to work nonunion jobs alike.
We would need more domestically produced trucks to support these workers. Demand for domestic steel and aluminum would rise. And endless amounts of goods and services to support these projects and workers would arise.
We could also attract Bayer, DuPont, Ticona and a slough of other producers of plastic resin that have been forced to operate over seas here to the US. Civilian heating costs would drop and the expansion of those jobs domestically would open up. The cost of commercial use of petroleum (the largest sector of petroleum usage in the USA) would come down allowing corporations greater cash flow stability and long term forecasting that would open up even more opportunities for good high wage jobs for both right to work supporters and union supporters.
Sorry, but you are living in a clouded bubble if you think that limiting free markets and expanding regulations on domestic oil production is the answer. Yes, I will be voting Republican in November. Because the alternative is guaranteed to fail the American worker and our way of life. At least with Santorum, Romney or Gingrich there is some glimmer of hope. Even more so if we can give them back a productive senate to work with.
-
Republican or Democrat is like saying "dung" or "poop". It's just two different ways of saying the same word: "Politician". Asking or expecting a politician to get something done in todays politcal environment is like believing in the tooth fairy.

Stop living :dunno:
I'm already thinking about that every time I get the mail. The Dr. bills are kicking my ass. It's getting to expensive to keep myself alive but there might just be a great piece of fun/tail just around the corner :dunno: :chuckle:
Seriously one of my priorities for a long time has been a short commute. I pursued the work assignment I have now because I knew it was moving to Everett, where I wanted to move to. My work vehicle is now stationed 8 minutes from home. Or.... I found a house 8 minutes from where a customer lets us park our car...either way short commute. Bought a motorcycle too 65mpg
-
Having that short commute to work is a huge help. I currently live 3 miles from my place of work and I only know the price of gas once a month (during the fill-up).
-

Excellent. Thank you.
The problem is the left is convinced otherwise, we will need to drag them along with us.

That reminds me of the South Park episode on voting. "You're choices are always going to be between a *censored* bag and a turd sandwich."

This'll be tough for scouting season, but I'll try guilt trip my buddy into driving and then not pitch in. I should save a few hundred dollars that way. :chuckle:
-
No significant change here. If anything, I'll go camping more than I did last spring/summer/fall. Last year was a rough year for outing's. Seemed like every time we planned to go, some mini disaster arose and trashed the plans.
-
Last spring I stopped driving to roosevelt to fish from shore after 3 trips because of gas, and i didn't go grouse hunting at all. Probably do the same this year

Going to see a lot more subarus in the hills this year. There is a surplus of them in Bellingham. If you buy a Forester you will need a razor blade to remove the rainbow stickers in the back window unfortunately!

Rasbo, thanks for all your research! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Hey! I only had to remove the Snow boarding stickers. I think It had about 5 "Spacecraft" stickers on it with the snow cat on it! :chuckle: Still have one on it just for some camoflauge.... Maybe my subie will look just like another bunny hugger car when i'm out slaying Bambi! :rockin:

keep those stickers and the rainbow stickers on,your rig wont be vandalized at the trail heads

Had to take most of them off because my tan rig looked more like a calico cat!

True statement.
5 of the 8 here in my work parking lot are them. They all try and park together. None of them want to park next to my stinky diesel dually. Go figure. :chuckle:
-
I simply drive a bit less when gas goes higher. When it comes to scouting and hunting though I will still be going. I can cut out a lot of things in the budget before I target the scouting and hunting travel expense. Think about all the gas you save when the vehicle is parked for a week during a hunting trip and not commuting!

Good point, but it wouldn't matter. I'm going hunting and I'm not driving a freakin' Prius to do it.

Just talked to a buddy with an 07 dodge that just UN-installed the Urea injection system for his truck. Should save him some $ and about 3mpg, or so i am told...

I have a 1978 F-250 with 460 V8 that gets 30 mpg for sale. Any takers?

Well, I got selected for some Safeway gas rewards....instead of 10 cents off a gallon per reward point, I now get 30 cents off. I'll have to use it scouting though as it won't last till hunting season.

I think you only have a month to use your discount or you lose it. You might want to check on that.

No urea injection on an '07 6.7 Cummins.
Diesel particulate filter yes,urea no.
-
So it must be the one that dumps raw fuel into the cat to "clean" it... causing crappy mileage and burning more fuel to "save" our planet...

Downhill, in neutral ??

It gets better milage when sitting in the driveway.
Seriously, sure hate this gas price spike as it is a nice old truck to take hunting/camping, and is rigged for propane also. May have to sign it over for junk.
-
start drilln in the badlands, make are own damn gas, oh but that would make to much sense, cause it would create jobs, alot of jobs, we could lower gas down to where it should be, about 1.00 a gallon, then we quit exporting and absolutly zero importing, keep jobs here, keep all are farming goods here, quit allowing people to move into the U.S, that way we can only buy american, oh and shore up are homeland security and are borders, it would be nice to see this happen, but that will only happen when we have politicians and a president that actually give a damn about THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA........

Carpool to work and use the savings to still scout this summer.
Figures we trade the Subaru in for the Toyota Truck and gas prices go up 15 cents since the purchase :bash:
-
i am going to look at a 93 toyota today after work for my son, i figure if i buy it then i can use that to commute from graham to seatac and leave my tundra at home until my son actually has his license in hand, even then as much as it would kill me, i might have him drive my tundra to school and i will drive the 93 toy to work, it has a 4cyl 5sp so i hope it will get better mileage than my tundra which actually gets 17mpg, which is pretty good for a v-8

My parents kind of did the same thing when I got my license. They had an 84 Bronco, a 96 F250, and 2002 Explorer. The F250 got the worth mileage and school was only 2 miles away. I got to say, I fell in love with driving that truck and it was definitely the coolest car (IMO) in the parking lot. I'm sure your son would love you

Better yet, have him take the bus and let your Tundra sit in garage. :)
-
i wish i could curly but the bus wont come down are 1/12 mile dirt road, if it was just my son i would say walk but i cant do that to my little girl, so with football statn in the summer and with 2 adays and baseball and transportn little sis to and from school, this is the only option i can come up with, i figure i will fill the tank up twice a month, g/k highschool is only around 6 to 7 miles round trip and if he wants to go out with his girl friend or his friends on a weekend then he can take the little yota and he can come up with his own gas money, i just hope it saves me in gas money to and from work, but i think i might just thrash my son a bit if he hurts my tundra

Just picture some of the posters in this thread --sitting on their couch in full camo, with taxidermy on the wall behind them-- explaining how they're going to get their gas paid for by the next Republican president.
It will go a little something like this:
"Well, you see... The next Republican president is going to lower the price of gas because the market will be freed from regulations. The Republican will have gas prices down to historically low levels by creating jobs, and every American citizens can drill for oil in his/her own back yard. Manufacturing jobs will be created all across the United States because the demand for oil rigs and parts will be astronomical in size. We will need to have more children to ensure workers of the future are available to prevent the jobs from going overseas. This increase in population will in turn create more jobs in the healthcare sector as someone will need to care for and deliver these babies. Not to mention, the Republican will support our right to bear arms and those middle-easterners will be so scared, they'll hand over the oil and not even bother to fish in the Strait of Hormuz for risk of preventing the oil tankers from attaining a full speed exit."
The "vote republican" posters in this thread are just as delirious as this woman is...
I am speechless! :bash: :bash: :bash:

If your concerned about gas prices i would probaly stop hunting, i spent over 700$ in gas over a month and a half of hunting and scouting.

Take the wifes rig scouting! I found a deer last time I took it :chuckle: :chuckle:

-
hell, it cost me that much this year when a friend drew a moose tag. :o
-
But atleast you got some backstrap
-
No, I left before the work started. I'm sure that sometime in the next decade I'll take it out of his hide though. :)
-
I've crunched the numbers and for me, having a 2nd car or "commuter car" isn't worth the $$.
Sure I'd possibly get 35 mpg but I have to buy the car, insure it, store it somewhere, and maintain it.
I've got to have a truck to do all the things I want to do in my life so I just suck it up and pay for the diesel.
I gotta say I'm very happy with the fuel economy of my Dodge 2500 with the 5.9 vs. my F-250 with the 6.0.
My Dad's license plate frame reads "there's more to life than gas mileage".
The prices are insane but you gotta pay to play.
-
No, I left before the work started. I'm sure that sometime in the next decade I'll take it out of his hide though. :)
What kind of friend leaves before the work starts on a moose? :o Is that like a blind date where work calls after a half hour just in case you need to have an out? :chuckle:
I know a few guys that drew moose tags and say they saved some serious fuel bills by purchasing Bearpaw's maps. If I ever get drawn for moose or spring bear I'll certainly start my scouting trips with those in hand.
-
Don't be, there's a lot of sarcasm and "funning around" in my post. ;) I like to pick on both sides...
Unless of course, you are speechless in regards to the video I posted. If so, you can continue being speechless...or full of laughter, as it was a rather comical video. :chuckle:
Ahh. The "South Park" approach! No one can get made at me :dunno: Cuz I piss off everyone. I hear it works surprizingly well :chuckle:

I just payed $ 4.03 at a 76 station ...AM PM is @ $ 3.76 but I can not force myself to pump that sheet in my truck .....How am I going turkey hunting this year because it may hit $ 5 bucks by then :bash: :bash: :bdid:

He was too darn picky while I was there. Thats his own fault. :chuckle: Then he went and shot a big one after I left, so I don't think he minded waiting. :)

Dang it, this is my year to draw a moose tag and tags are $200 more this year. That's $200 I could've spent on gas. Now I think I'm going to have to take my wife's old Toyota Corolla when I go moose hunting. :bash:

spend more money at Safeway to qualify for fuel discounts. I got a 1.00 off per gallon tonight when I filled up.

They're getting better! I used to do all my shopping at Freddy's to get .10cents a gallon off. Then Winco came to town. The savings there are worth more than .10cents a gallon
-

Yeah, but look out for their pushing gift cards for double fuel discounts. If you buy $50 in cards you get .10 off per gallon up to 30 gallons =$3.00,but you pay about $4.50 in sales tax on it when you buy it,so you are down $1.50,and then when you use the $50 giftcard you pay sales tax again and you are then down $6. State loves it!
And how many make sure they get 30 gallons?

Seems like an appropriate place for this picture:

LOL you might be right :tung:
When I decided to leave my six figure salary to work the next three years for free while I started this business we chose to cut every expense we could. The first thing to go was the premium cable tv. Now that we are starting to make a little money we find we do not miss all those other tv shows and it will be the last thing we get back. If we ever decide to go back. That's a household savings of over $150.00 per month or $1,800.00 per year. That's a lot of gas or a new gun every year
The down side to it is when 12 midnight comes around and I'm finally shutting down the machines my cool down/personal time viewing choices are either "South Park" or "According to Jim". And while I seem to never tire of watching Courtney Thorne-Smith :o South Park usually makes me laugh. Except the Paris Hilton whore off. I just felt dirty after watching that :yike:
So I guess if you look at it right...I save money for gas by watching South Park.
If I move the TV into the bathroom I can fart in a jar while watching South Park! Then I'll really be saving some gas.
-

The perfect hunting rig, LOL
My uncle had a 68 scout with a 348 we hunted out of when I was a boy. He had a 4x4 post we put a crossed ways through both of the windows, with a come-a-long going out the back with a cable to haul elk up in with.
Worked like a charm, though it made for a stinky ride home, lol

Two words: Honda Ruckus.

Gas up in the early morning you will get more fuel when its cooler , plus no one will see you shaking your hose. or charge your hunting buddies a fuel surcharge !
-
Just got this. Thought it might be fitting here.

There is no sales tax on the purchase of the gift card itself.

siphon gas out of prius's i see with more than one bumper sticker. :chuckle:

You don't pay sales tax but you do pay a service fee of about 3-4 bucks for most. I know i did when i bought a Visa use anywhere gift card...
-
I've never been charged sales tax, or a fee when buying a gift card from anywhere.
Sexually deprived for your freedom!

The Fees are usually deducted from the value of the card. The Attorney General jumped knee deep in some Department Store **** years back when people started finding out the hard way that the Gift Cards they got months earlier had lost half their value in monthly "maintenance" fees. There are some kind of limits on it now.

I finally pulled the trigger on the big F-250 which was getting 7-8 mpg and bought a Nissan Frontier. Also, am not going to join a gym but instead found a big junk pile in the woods behind the house which provides plenty of things to get in a real hard caveman workout, plus walking the hills for a poormans treadmill. So saving gas to and from the gym plus no membership fees.

Thermals, facemask, Vapor barrier over socks and riding to work even below freezing as long as the roads are dry. Adventure :chuckle:
-
Little trucks drive better on the dirt roads then big trucks IMO.
Have to add driving in the wind makes a difference on gas prices. I did the math today and I got 18 mpg with my explorer :yike: . My average for the winter was only 16mpg.
Also, warm-up time in the winter will have an effect on your mpg calculation. It's sitting their running (using gas), but not going anywhere.

Work from home one day per week! No commute equals no gas burned. I have a great boss.
-
I think I'll save gas by running my diesel truck...............that way I won't burn any gas at all. 8)
