My local Mathew's dealer wants to make a smokin deal on a new helim, anyone shoot one yet? I shoot the switchback now and really like it, but I'm seriously thinking about trading it in on the Helim. I'm concerned about it being too small though. It's got a really short axle to axle, and I'm a big guy with a long draw (30). I like how light it is, just concerned about the length, anyone shoot one?
-
Is brandon our only mathews dealer?
-
As far as I know. I've known him a long time and always had first class service, so if I decide to buy one I'll go through him.
-
I've shot it. It shoots ok for a mathews :puke:. I like to shoot a little longer ATA.

thats what i thought. ive always had good service there toand now that i have a mathews i will only be going there, alot lately lol. still gettin used to the new name!
as far as the bow i cant say, ive never shot it but it looks cool!
-
Good shooting bow, but I do not like short bows. They are far less forgiving! as far as vibration and feel the the helim I thought it to be pretty good. Draws nice to, just way to short and whippy for this guys
-
what shop are you guys talking about?
-
Mine should be in in a week or two. I liked it.
-
Goose's archery & outdoors formally as&j archery in yakima
-
I dont think ive been to that one where is it? is that the one down from the bi-mart?
-
that was kinda my concern carp, I'm 6'3", and I don't like little bows that feel like a toy. Been happy with my switchback, so thought I might try the helim :dunno:
D. his shop is behind the bicycle shop 600 block W. Nob Hill Blvd.
-
I dont know yakima well just wanted to know if there was more than one. if i was you norse and set on a mathews i would look at one of the monsters. I think it would be the only mathews i could see myself shooting.

I am 6'1 and I shot 29" draw with a half inch loop. I know the feeling. I love the switchback one of the best bows matthewa has ever built!!! I am not stuck on any one brand and I think I own 8 brands right now and 15 bows as we speak. Going to have 16 within a few months! I have about 6 I need to sell.
When I picked it up that exact thought came to mind "toy" I am use to a bigger and longer bow. With a little more weight and longer ata a guy can really be helped in a lot of shooting. If I was a tree stand hunter or did a lot of ground blind hunting I could see shooting one. The other thing I don't like when a bow gets to light and to short is wind tends to really mess with your shot. Even a little longer bow but with more weight bucks the wind better.
-
I'm not stuck on Mathews D-rock, I shot Hoyt for 10 years before I got the mathews, it's just that I've had good luck with my Mathews and my dealer that I like to deal with is a Mathews dealer, so I just thought I'd stay with him rather than the brand. I am a firm believer in keeping business local when the customer service warrants it. I may just have the switchback freshened up and keep going with it.. :dunno:
-
My son just bought one from Brandon about a month ago and he loves his. Shoots great and really quiet.!

Did he have one in stock to shoot? And doesn't Brandon still carry Hoyt?
-
don't know if he has hoyt or not, he does have a helim in stock and three more on order.
-
I called him to get a price on the Heli m and was quoted MSRP....needless to say I bought mine elsewhere. There are three shops in that quoted me way less than he quoted, and he didn't seem overly friendly on the phone. Maybe he was busy...I don't know the guy and have never met him but I did tell him I was looking to buy and he didn't seem interested.
I did however pick my Heli m up today. I paid 110 dollars less than he quoted me. I shot both the heli m and the Hoyt vector 35 before making my decision. After shooting those two bows it was a no brainer......the Heli m was pretty amazing. I am 6' and have a 30" draw. I shoot with a mechanical release and the 30" ata doesn't bother me.
-
I'm only a 27 inch draw and can shoot a short bow just fine until I starting shooting my alphamax 35. I noticed a huge difference in forgiveness with a longer bow.
-
I shot it at high mountain and i thought that it was a nice bow, Draws nice, has a solid back wall and it shoots like a top of the line bow. The bad i cant stand Mathews grip, I wish they would change it. If you talk to Dewey down there try his grip on his personal bow, Its the shiz nit. That's the only reason i wouldn't buy it cause i don't want to spend that kind of money to have to spend more on a grip so im buying a bowtech.
-
I had a Switchback loved it. I bought the Z7 Extreme last year and like it even better. I have no problems with short ATA lenghts. This thing drives tacks and I am 6 foot tall. I would recommend these bows to anyone. If he is giving you a good deal I would do it. I am into my Z7 $1,400.00 all set up.
PM sent.
-
I'm happy with my mathews, so it's hard changing. Didn't get a PM from you, must have had the wrong address???
-
Picked up my Mathews Heli-M yesterday! I have to tell you. I'm in love. I am going to go out and shoot it on Saturday...stoked.
My setup out the door was: Mathews Heli-M, Spot Hogg 5 Pin Sight, QAD Rest, Tru-Glo fold back release, Stokerizer Stabilizer.
-
Looks sweet.
-
Looks good to me.
-
Went and put about 40 or 50 arrows through it today down at Cedar River. Big shout out to those guys down there. I'm a brand new archer and they were really helpful giving me tips.
Pretty funny, didn't know where the first arrow was going to go so I started at a nice safe 20 yards. Put it right into the 2x4! Blew the nock out and lost my field tip and insert on my first shot, kind of embarrassing, but definitely funny. The sight was about four feet off, and after some adjustment I was shooting a pretty good group at 20 yards. Had a blast.
I'm a member down there now, so looking forward to shooting plenty. Anyone else shoot at CRB?
-
Got2hunt,The shiz nit?? lol! Yeah, like the grip too..Want mine off my bow? Lets talk. And Jreb, hope your getting lots of arrow time! Keep em in the 10!
-
I just got a heli m last month, i love it and it is my favorite possesion. Here is my setup, Axion GLZ Gridlock 5" Stabilizer, ArrowWeb T-Series 5 Arrow Quiver. super super light and shoots good. suprisingly stable and very quiet. cant wait to get huntin next fall.
-
All this new bow talk is making me want to go shopping...
-
looks good, may have to go pull the trigger, so to speak. :chuckle:
-
Will the helium accept a 2 piece quiver? I shoot a DXT and I abolutly love it. The short ATA is less forgiving but dosent that make you a better archer. I do not like the fact that the riser isnt drilled for a 2 piece quiver. That little one dosent support enouf arrow.

:yeah: I LOVE my dxt
-
Yes, it will take a two piece quiver. I had a dxt that I sold to by the Heli m this year. I absolutely hate the one piece quiver.....that was one reason for my decision to upgrade. I will post pics later tonight.
-
Very nice setup! What sight do you have?
-
The sight is the G5 XR2. It has one static pin and 1 floating pin. It is extremely light and so far seems to work extremely well.
-
There is a lot of nice wood grain on that grip

Carp
Yes, there is....I got really lucky whith that. I ordered the bow and when it came in it had one of the nicest grips I have ever seen on a Mathews. Needless to say I was super stoke.
-
I shoot a lot of bows and that has got to be one of the best I have seen. The one I shot was not even close to that. Makes it look really sharp. Even though it is a matthews :chuckle: Just playing
-
Did Mathews change their grips? Besides the one piece quiver thats the only other thing I didnt care for but I replaced the stock one with a Focus.

no still the worst grip in the business
-
Oh contrair, I've found it to be one of the most repeatable grips out there!
-
Different strokes for different folks  I have owned almost all of them and have my faves.

thats why all their pros dont shoot it :stirthepot:

:yeah:

Maybe I don't know what a good grip is.....I have shot mathews for many years and have never had a problem. I consistantly harvest deer and elk with the stock grip. I hold consistantly tight groups and don't think it is uncomfortable.
What makes a grip a "good" grip?
What are you guys shooting?
Any pics would be awsome.
Thanks
Johnny

The basic rule for a lot of pro shooters is the more surface there is on the grip the more contact. It can cause a lot more torque by changing the slightest amount of pressure. With the thin grips like on the x force and my new bear "after taking off the overmold. There is a lot less surface area to cause any torque.
-
Agreed, as contact SHOULD be limited to only the back of the grip anyway.
-
Ya one of the most uncomfortable grips. the pse and the bowtecs a best
-
I shot this the other day with the stock grip at 42 yards, seems to work okay for me :dunno:
-
I actually like the grip...

Looks a little low right! :chuckle: :chuckle: Nice group.

Was a diehard Mathews shooter til now. Bought a Prime Shift LR Great shooting bow. Don't know if I will go back to shooting a Mathews.
-
So who wants to sell me their year old bow to buy a helim :chuckle: :peep:...seriously

I have been looking pretty hard, but people want $1000 plus for their 2-3 year old bow with shi**y accessories and no arrows etc... :dunno: Then they say obo and get offended when i say what they are actually worth. I know they paid a lot for them, but its what they are worth now

I sold my dxt with top of the line accessories for $600. I have seen a few in my neck of the woods going for around the same price. Good Luck finding one.
-
I'd sell ya my switchback! Make ya good deal on it too.
-
So who all ended up with a Heli-m? Now that you've had some time to shoot it, lets have a range report.
I'm just needing a little push to go down and plop down some "fun-tickets" on one.
-
pickin mine up tomorrow.
-
Have been putting 50-75 arrows down range per day for the last week. I am only shooting 30 yard right now as I try to tune my arrow and fine tune my sight. Initially I could not hold a group worth a darn...6 inch groups...it was gross. I was shooting to light a spine. Two days ago I bought two dozen easton axis n fused 300 spine and they are back to my normal tight groups. It is an extremely fast bow and darn quiet. I am drawing 70 lbs and it is a really smooth draw. The only thing I am not totally sold on is my new sight. I imagine I will get used to it, but is is trying my pt's right now. It is the G5 XR2. Great design and ultra light, just different.
-
I'm planning on shooting my same arrows, 340 Axis, and keeping my sight and my rest (trophy taker). Just time for a new bow, one that's fast and quiet.
-
What is your draw lenght and draw weight? I was planning on shooting the 340's and it was way undersplined. I also shoot a 29.5 inch arrow and 30 inch draw at 70 lbs with 125 grain points. The 300 were the way to go. I may even back it down a few lbs to optimize my 300 spine.
-
Yeah i am shooting Axis 340's through my heli m too and i am getting good groups :) :archery_smiley:
-
70lbs, 30" draw and I use a loop too. Been shooting the 340's for about 5 years in my switchback, same weight and length.
-
I too have been shooting 340's for many years. It sounds like our bows will be set up almost identical. I kid you not, the 340's would not group out past 20 yards. I thought I had forgotten how to shoot, but after doing some research (look up some of my post over the past 2 weeks) I made the switch and now it is shooting like a dream. It even paper tuned with the 340's (slight up tear 1/4") but other wise decent. Just wouldn't group past 20??? :dunno: Let me know how yours shoots with the 340's at longer ranges.

just picked up the new bow tonight, gonna shoot it tomorrow and i'll let you know how it goes.
-
So got the new bow home. when I got it set up at the bow shop, I swapped my sights and rest over, got it tuned for center shot, set the peep etc. So today go out and start at 20 yards. It was hitting high and righ, so a couple of adjustments on my sight and bingo! It's drilling them in about a 2" group at 40 :IBCOOL: This bow is very quiet and very fast. I'm shooting the same arrows as I did in my switchback and it definetly zings them out a lot faster. Gonna have to break out the chrono and see what it's doing. So far, I love it, can't wait to whack a turkey with it next month.
