Title: New Hunter in Washington
Post by: threedwizard on February 24, 2012, 02:21:30 PM
I'm putting this in the deer forum, but it's a general question. I'm a new land owner to this beautiful state and was hoping for some guidance to hunt around my property. NOT LOOKING FOR SOMEONE'S HONEY HOLE. Any info on the Mount Bonaparte region or that part of the Okanogan National forest. I think the hunt area is 209. Look forward to spending money in Washington State and trying to build up some hunting points

Thanks in Advance.  Joe

209 is the wannacut unit, lots of good ground up there, Bonaparte is 204, lots of ground and lots of people during the general run and gun season..Where is your property?? general specifics will help me guide you..

Buckmark, you're right, 204. I have about 21 acres, all wooded. It's right on the border of the national forest boundary and Lightning Creek up Mount Bonaparte Road. I can hunt on the land, which has good deer tracks, or walk out into the NF. Some people around there say the bears and turkeys are decent too???

Sounds like some good area. Can you get yourself a little area cleaned...put in some alfalfa...let them toms and bucks just walk right in. If you have deer you will have bears and cats as well. I would say maybe grab a bit of bait like apples, salt, a bale of alfalfa...something.....put it out with a cam and see what walks in. Or, maybe just explore a bit, sit, watch for a morning or evening.

Or...............do all of the above and I'll come out and hunt.

Thanks for the shares, I was  thinking the same thing. A small food plot or two and some trail cameras should do it. Some scouting in the NF should yield results too.
