Title: Not sure what I'm asking but I am asking for some guidance
Post by: DoubleJ on February 27, 2012, 02:11:34 PM
I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster from 1952.  I has some rusting, inside and out.  Barrel is brand new so that's not an issue but the action sure is.  i do not have the time, knowledge, patience, or ability to take care of this problem myself.  Does anyone know of someone in Western Wa. that can take the thing apart, and totally purge it of rust?  Not looking for refinishing afterwards since, when it's done, it's probably off to get Dura-coated.  Looking for it to be as inexpensive as possible.  I can even wait a bit since, well, I don't know how long the process would take anyway.

Also, anyone have a round about idea on cost?

Thanks guys

Call around and talk to a few gunsmiths that do Duracoating, they will also take care of the rust and prior to the coating or it won't last long at all.

Shelton, but for good work, I'd be willing to travel.  Eastern Wa isn't out of the question completely.  we'll be there a couple times this year.  Not even going to be an option til around christmas time anyway and I have no idea what I actually want done yet.  Haven't seen a color combination that has really grabbed me

whats wrong with shipping it? its a hell of a lot cheaper than driving there. seems like everyone these days is too paranoid to ship a gun or order one through the mail.

for less than $50 you could take care of the rust yourself and dura coat it yourself. dura coat is extremely simple to apply, you don't even need an airbrush or fancy tools. just get the kit they sell and go for it. I have already dura coated a SBEII and a SP10, I was half brain dead from paint fumes through most of it so its really not that hard. just get good ventilation so you don't get dame bramage.

I most likely will be dura-coating a friends rust bucket 870 wingmaster in the near future, I will post the results.

There's a guy on seattleguns.net and on waguns.com, he goes by Tactical Assault, he's up here in Redmond. He does duracoat.
You're not going to duracoat the inside of it though. TA does some smith work too so he might be able to do the whole thing. Within state lines you can ship that thing USPS without having to worry about FFL transfers.

Check out celticarmory .com he's a gunsmith in Port Orchard who duracoated a marlin for me and it looks great. I think he charges 100.00 for long arms. All the rust gets sand blasted out but I don't know about the inards as duracoat is for external apps only I think.

I would really like to hear the final word on this. duracoat goes on so thin I really can't see it being applied to innards that are static or don't move much.  I wouldn't go spraying it down the end of the barrel by any means.
