Caught by Larry DePaul. Landed without a net by Tony DePaul. Released back into the wild unharmed. Just over 40 inches, so I'm figuring 20 pounds :yike: My biggest ever. :IBCOOL:

:sry:I've been sworn to secretcy :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
ide just like to know the river if thats ok. dont want to know your secret spot.
-
Alright I give up :chuckle: I caught in on the 'nooch, with a size 10 orange corky and roe. I used my Lamiglas 9' light action baitcaster with a Shimano Calais reel filled with 10 LB P-Line. I had on 2 1/2 feet of 10 LB P-Line flourocarbon leader, and pencil lead. Pulled him out from under some alders along a cutbank.
-

Your hole? We both are borrowing it, it belongs to someone other than the 2 of us! LOL! I'm telling my girls that big mean Paul said that we couldn't fish this weekend. :chuckle: Besides, you are working Gatorade all weekend! ;)

-
nice one! planning on leaving Sunday evening up to the peninsula for some fishing monday. that is if the rivers dont blow up this weekend...
-
Right on, cool fish...
-
That's an awful nice fish to put back. Whyd you let it go?
-
probably a wild fish. other wise who in thier right mind would let it go
-
Not trying to take anything away from it....it is a beautiful fish.....but....it looks.to me like an adipose fin hiding under the front edge of the rag...... if that is why it was released you should probly pull the picture since it is illegal to remove them from the water....
-
:yeah: :bdid:
-
Congrats on a dandy fish! Looks healthy, and I am sure it still is!
-
nice looking fish.
-
20 lbs :yike: :dunno:
-
I will be down there this weekend as well. I am thinking Saturday all day. I guess I will see you there.
-
Gorgeous fish!
Can someone cite the law stating that it is illegal to remove it from the water for a picture please?
-
Its pretty damn close, some of my pics look like they are out of the water but they got a fin touching. Sweet fish and I see nothing wrong with how he handled it.
-
Page 18, right hand column, first section in handling....on my phone so I cant paste it in.

It is unlawful to totally remove
salmon, steelhead, or Dolly Varden/bull trout
from the water if it is unlawful to retain those
fish, or if the angler subsequently releases the
salmon, steelhead, or Dolly Varden/bull trout.
-
Thanks.....i wasnt there.....fish looks out of the water to me.....nice fish though.
-
Thats a dandy for sure!!!!!
-
Honestly fish appears quite health and probably is just fine. Healthier than when caught in a natives net, a sportsmans cooler, or a sealions mouth. I would have guessed way less than that in size, but who cares. Nice fish and thanks for releasing it.

Agreed on all counts. I handle fish over the side in boats whenever feasible but it just isn't always possible, same goes for fish caught from the bank. As for the picture, I've had gamies encourage me to take a pic before putting fish back before! The fish looks both gently and sensibly handled, it's eyeballing the water pretty hard!
-
I dont see an adipose fin any where in the photo so it looks legal to me! Again Nice job and I sure do miss fishin the nooch and all of those rivers over there on the wetside!

They were waiting in the bushes for you fc :chuckle:
It looks healthier than the last wild steelhead out of the water I saw posted on this board. I'm suprised that fish went 20, I woulda guessed 14ish. You must be one big dude! :chuckle:

Brother Tony tips the scales at about 270, and is about 6 feet tall. He's the one holding it because he landed it. We didn't want to handle it too much, so I just pulled my phone out of my pocket and snapped a shot.
It was a wild fish, and yes we did lift it up just long enough for the picture. The fish swam away without having to be revived.
-
I wouldnt admit to lifting it out. Last I heard fish and game doesnt ser a difference between a quick pic and five minutes. Sorry.....i know internet police and all....

You are killing the thread and taking way too much away from this fish and the accomplishment of catching it..
Old Dog! Nice freaking Steelhead!     Keep up the good work! :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
Ok Ok. let's all calm down a little. Lets get this back on track. Any more jabs they will just go into the trash.
-
I don't really see where anyone is all fired up or taking jabs. :dunno: this thread has actually stayed surprisingly civil. :twocents:
-
:yeah: I agree, I just read the entire thread and didn't realy see any issues asside from a few post reciting regs... Great fish BTW.
-
Agreed. I think the original poster showed some very good handling skills....I see the towel on the fishes tail....I'm sure that helped his grip and prevented the fish from getting dropped or knocked around. It also shows consideration (if it was damp) of the fishes slime coat not being wiped off.
Personlly I tried to balance my posts with respect to commenting on the quality of the fish and the fact that I would not broadcast the fact that it is all the way out of the water.
I've seen posts with oversized sturgeon being posed with in a boat (taken down), a proud dad posting a pic of his bow with an archery shot song bird (good shot) (also taken down), a suspected flashlight on a bow (never confirmed, taken down)...all treated with much more criticism.
I'm okay with any of my comments being edited by the moderators if deemed inflamatory or inappropriate...just don't think I've posted any that would be considered out of line.
-
:yeah:
I have to agree with H20....the fish looks to be handled well.....but.....I have seen pictures with less incrimination taken down......I may not agree with the law entirely but it is a law that has been around for few years now and has been discussed in depth on many, if not all, fishing forums......my comment was just to point out what I suspected and has now been confirmed as a wild fish out of the water and that I wouldnt leave it up.....I am not taking away from the fish....it is a very nice specimen....I would agree with a few others about doubting its size but it is a fishermans tale....everyone has one....
-
It all has to do with who you are around here. We get a warning on this thread but where was the moderation on cascade fishermans "big skykomish steelie" thread? I'm sure he would have appreciated it. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

-
I see the internet police are out in full force :chuckle:
-
:yeah:
-
Not trying to be he "internet police".....this pic would have been pulled by every other sight I frequent....pictures of illegal activities dont fly on most sights and never have been kept up on this sight before either.....just sayin........... :dunno: :bdid:

It''s all good gentlemen...WDFW watches this site all the time and they will provide Moderation of their own if deemed necessary. In situations like this one, the site Mods may not have the last say at all. One should use discretion on any pictures posted. :hello:
-
It's a fish out of the water!!!
What about the thousands of illegals running around your neiughborhoods right now... Hurry dial 911 about them and quit trying to be the damn police, I think we have enough of them already.. And I suppose all of you bitching drive the speed limit and stop at everystop sign and use your blinker everytime...
Beautiful fish! I hope you disregard all the negativity with it...
Show us some more.

Wow rt, surpised you would post a comment like that....
-
That is a nice fish, I hope to land one half that size some day

Picture out of water? CHECK
Noted as wild fish by OP? CHECK
Noted as out of water by OP? CHECK
The fish out of water regulation is crystal clear? CHECK
The fish had been noted by the OP being in excellent condition upon release? CHECK
The best that we can gather by the pic, the fish was handled with extreme care and the fish looks great? CHECK
Did I miss anything?
Oh, and helluva nice fish sir and thanks for the pic!!! And that fish's gene pool will continue!!! :)
-
Maybe the guy in the picture is indian. Then the fish out of water law wouldn't apply. There are some places in WA, for example if you fish the Quinault, where the law doesn't apply.
And the law applies to hatchery fish as well, most people think it is only for wild fish.
-
I've taken it down. Now everyone can relax.

its too bad so many people complained and ripped on your outstanding fish and photo that you so kindly shared with the rest of us! Keep up the great work and feel free to share with me again! I love seein' fish like this!

Let's pick and choose what rules we follow. Sounds like a good idea to me...

I don't really see where anyone is all fired up or taking jabs. :dunno: this thread has actually stayed surprisingly civil. :twocents:
The reason why it looks that way is because I have taken posts off and edited posts :hello: No wonder you guys cant see them and it looks to be civial up until my post :bash: Come on guys use your brains!
This one is done...
-
Ahhhhhh, and I don't even get to argue with hairtrigger about the difference of the open ocean and stretching a net across a river.
