Title: droopy the deer made it another year.
Post by: D-Rock425 on March 04, 2012, 06:18:40 PM: Went to set my trail cam this morning and bumped into the deer I really wanted to get on camera. He's within a few hundred yards of where I set the camera. I first spotted this deer in 09 and have seen him every year since besides during hunting season. I applied for the multi season tag this year just for a better chance at this deer. I hope to have pics soon.

my problem is I have little time to hunt him during archery season do to the shortened early hunt and no late season in the area. Then I'm out of town elk hunting for 2 weeks. I'm praying for the multi season permit. I've never killed a deer with anything but my bow but I have no problem with trying.

Find the swamp or the thickest nastiest brushy high knob in that area. Where would you go to hide? I mean really hide. He'll have multiple escape routes from that spot. Now find the next lowest knob that gets him out of the weather. Find another place that gets you out of weather coming from the oposite direction. Do your scouting right now. He's there. Smart Blacktail bucks are like pimps. Never in the same bed two nights in a row.

that makes alot of sense. Thing is once you think you found that spot you look around and everythingis the same as where your at. :chuckle::chuckle:

didnt you get your elk in the first two days last year?

With a naked eye at 200 yards, the distance I filmed from, he is impressive. Let alone up closer!

Yep....I would agree he is a OIL blackie. There is a story (ear), mass, height, points, and a bit of a history with D-Rock and the deer.

I filmed him from about 70 yards away while he was bedded. He was a perfect 3x3 with little eye guards then. I'm thinking with the 4 years since then he would have to be at least 6 or 7 years old now.

I pulled my cams because I feel like I have a pretty good idea what is moving around up there, but now there's some extra activity. Not sure what impact this will have on the hunting.

Droopy also has a full eared twin up there that I've found on the cams... I'm not kidding either. I hope someone gets him.

Not sure if you ever saw this thread, but check out both pages, I have pics on each... they have to be siblings or offspring of droopy.

I would love to if I'm around. Gone often on weekends, but hit me up and I'll let you know.

I talked to some of the guys hauling equipment around, they said they are putting in a road first and foremost. Not sure how long it takes to go from road building for logging, but I'd say that logging is probably a little ways off yet.

I'm aware that such hooligans might exist. They seem to have a hard time centering themselves in front of the camera...illusive *censored*s.

D-Rock, this is why I pulled the cams. I feel like some of the critters may move a little further away from their normal spots. I feel like the big critters don't appreciate all the commotion, we'll see. I need to find another close-ish bear spot to keep me occupied on weekdays after work.
