Title: Hunt WA Biggest Loser Contest
Post by: Machias on March 05, 2012, 07:22:56 AM
Anyone interested in a Biggest Loser contest?  We could go from 1 March to 1 Sep.  We could do the most weight lost and or the highest percentage lost?  I would be willing to donate a nice prize at the end.  Honor system.  Anyone interested?

Just started losing, so sure.  I stepped on the scales and it appears that winter was better for me than the average bear.   YIKES :yike:  If I gain 5 more pounds, I'll be one of those 300 pounders on here people say can't get around in the woods.  Just got my blood drawn for a lipid profile this morning.    Little apprehensive of what I might see.

I'd be in, just quit chewing and really started getting serious about where I've let myself go.  A little extra motivation never hurts!

Ok, I'm offering the knife of your choice from Rainshadow1.  Up to $150, I'll pay.  My starting weight is 298.  My goal for 1 Sep is 200.  We can do weekly weigh-ins, but your not obligated to post it each week, but it will help to keep you motivated.  I'm doing the Nutrisystem Diet again.  In 2010 I lost 105 pounds in 182 days on NS.  Gained most of it back in 2011.    :bash:  Broke my ankle and fell right back into old habits.

:yike:  Can I include the weight I've already lost in the last month and a half since I've already started getting back in shape?  I was hoping for something like this with the turn of the new year but nada, so I just started and have been plugging away ever since.

Sorry.  You should have said something!  :)   I actually started on the 23rd of Feb and I'm down 9 pounds, but we'll have to start it now.  We should actually start the date from today, but what do you guys think?  I'm easy going.  What do you think, everyone needs to join by 1 April?

Machias,
I think it is great idea!! I think that this would be a great motivator. I only need to lose about 5lbs so I am out. I just hope you guys are not going to line up in your underwear with no shirts for an official weigh-in. If anyone is in the Port Angeles area and wants someone to train with then feel free to send me a pm. Good luck to all.

Yep wife laid down the law right before Christmas and said lose it (weight) or lose it (her gesturing down below).  She said you were in tip-top shape when we first met (fresh out the Corps) and now you've put it on over the years.  She said I looked really tired when I was packing out my bull last year and thought I was going to quit but I didn't because I don't quit and she said enough was enough, get back into it or hit the couch and you'll never get it again! :yike: :yike: :yike:  Enjoyed my last big Christmas meal and as soon as the calendar turned over I hit it and I've hit it hard because there is no way in hell I'm sleeping on the couch and not getting it!

Love it  Just started my annual diet on march 1st. Cool deal fred

I am 6'0 276 when I started on the 1st

I do it every year, get down to a great weight. Hunt and guide in good shape then I go to crap! Time to start getting back to a good shape

I take pictures each week of the scale. I use them as motivation for myself to keep going. I have no problems sharing them with everyone.

I would like to get down to about 230-240 I hunted last year at about 235 and had lost 45lbs to get there.

I think we should do percentage, that way the few really big guys like myself aren't a shoe in...even though I WANT that knife.  :)

Good luck guys.  Make these changes so that they are lifestyle changes and you don't have to redo all of this again next year!

 :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

I'll do it.  Kind of disgusted at this mornings weight.  260

Just have a question.  Are we measuring this by plain old weight or a percentage of body mass loss.  See my two examples below.

ex 1:  Starting weight 260, Lost 30 pounds.  Final weight 230  Total weight loss 30 pounds

ex 2:  Starting weight 260 Lost 30 pounds.  Final weight 230.   230/260=  88% of original weight.  So body mass loss is 12%

I am in either way but I have a suggestion.  Each person that says they are in, pays the winner $.25 for every pound the winner loses?  This way people stay committed.  This is obviously on the honor system and before and after photos would have to be shared at the end.

I mean if the winner loses 100 lbs, the other contestants are only out $25 but that would add up quick for the winner.

My starting weight is 276

Fasting sucks bad! I have been doing it for 5 days so far. One small meal a night, for the first week. I almost always loose 10lbs because my body is use to so many calories. I mainly fast because my acid reflux gets to going bad. One of the best ways to let stuff balance out and heal is fasting.

Carp,

If you eat anything past 6 pm your acid refux will be hrrible. I have been living iwth it for years. Try not to eat anything late and it will get better....

That is for sure, I learned that quick. Anything like oj or chochalot or any thing with a lot of acid, late at night. I will not be able to go to sleep because it is killing me so bad! When I get done fasting and get down to my hunting weight. I have maybe 1/3 of the problems I do when I am bigger.

I am in. I have been doing the ideal protein diet since December and have lost 45 pounds but need to stay motivated. I am 6'6" and weighed in at 344 pounds this am at the doc. I have always been a big guy but after getting out of the trades a few years back and sitting behind a desk, it did not take long to really pack on the pounds. I think this is a great idea and a great way for us all to keep each other motivated so we can get healthy and enjoy the sport we all love that much more. Good luck to all

I think it's awesome we are getting so many guys to join in.  Let's try to have a weekly weigh-in and report, just to keep you motiviated and updated.  I was thinking I was going to be a shoe in to win myself an outstanding knife....now I'm not so sure.  I will tell you all this and you all already know it, no matter who wins the knife, if we all get healthy and lose some weight we'll all be winners for that!!  I will have the spreadsheet posted in a few days with everyone's name, initial weigh in, their goal weight, the amount lost for that week, total loss and their percentage lost.  Good luck everyone and if anyone needs help/encouragement please let us know!!

I agree 100% it's a good motivator between friends and members to keep eachother going. I got on the scale this morning and was very happy. I will post the 1 week weight tomorrow. The first weeks or 2 I love all the extra extra stuff just falls off of me. Then I go down to just several pounds a week. Wish the rest would fall off as well :chuckle:

I guess I better join in as well, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, having my younger brother mistaken for my son, etc.
232 lbs. currently  Last year I drew a branched antler bull permit and went from the 240s to around 210, and got up & down the hills noticeably easier, now it seems as though the stairs are getting longer & gravity is getting stronger, so it's time to do something!

Might be a good idea to post up some ideas or gives some tips on how each person is going about their weight loss.  What are some of you doing that you are having success with?  Specific workouts?  Specific diets?  Might help some of those who don't know where to begin or who haven't had much success in the past.  I try to stick with fruits, veggies, fish, and lean meats like chicken.  Red meat once a week.  For those of use with high cholesterol, getting your heart rate up over 100 bpm for at least 30 consecutive minutes each day is a good start.  I went from numbers similar to Bone's in regards to cholesterol and triglycerides, to normal levels in about 6 months with exercise and taking the meds my doc prescribed.  I'm almost to the point where I won't have to take the meds much longer!  Motivation is a huge factor, and just doing it is another.  It takes 21 days to form a habit.  It will be hard, but staying with it will make you feel much better.  Hopefully this contest will help with the motivation and there is lots of support here as well.  Good luck guys!

Weighing in at 266 this morning.
My biggest problem with true weight loss is i stay right around 250-260, iwill loose 15-20lbs around the middle in the next few weeks with diet/exercise, then gain it all back in muscle in my upper half once the weather gets better and start working at my property....

Great idea, we're all in this together, encouragement or butt kicking, whatever you need!  :)

I figure anytime Friday morning to Monday morning.  Everyone has a particular day they can or like to weigh in.  It's not mandatory to weigh in each week, it'll just help keep track.  Bottom line your last weigh in has to be 31 Aug, so we can calculate the winner.  I have e-mailed back and forth with Rainshadow, he will work with me...er the winner and make a fantastic knife.  I'm donating the $150 and Rainshadow is going to make you a knife worth even more than that based on what I...er...whoever wins wants.  :)

This is funny but before you guys came up with this I bought Biggest Loser for xbox 360 with Kinetic.  I started that Monday.  I been doing Weight Watchers for the last 3 weeks.  Prior to Monday I have lost 6 pounds.  3 years ago I was at just about the same weight.  Went on weight watchers and lost 50 lbs.  I was also using Wii fit back then.  Those things work.  Good cardio.

I'm doing 5 miles a day (walking) and eating Nutrisystem.  Such an easy diet, never get hungry and the food is awesome.  I lost 105 pounds in 182 days last time on this diet.  This time once the weight is off it has got to stay off.

The problem with me going on nutri-system or something like that is then all the game I have in my freezer does not get eaten.  Whatever I do I need to still enjoy the end product of my hunting.  I like my elk and deer meat.  So I will move almost all that to being cooked on the grill now when I have a dinner that includes red meat.

Official weight is 197.  I am aiming for a fit 175.  I have packed on a few pounds like a bear for the winter.  My girlfriend is calling it my "food baby".  I mostly want to start feeling good again.  I try to get my exercise through fun activities like snowboading, hiking, hunting, etc but I think it is going to take more than that this year.  I suppose this may be part of getting older  :bash:

Ok Ok, all of you guys just shouting your weight out has guilted me into it -  put me in at starting weight of 244 :yike:, goal by September is 195, or otherwise known as a good start...

p.s. this is after a 30 lb weight loss already this past year - low carb, increased exercise - I was practically jogging the Pheasant fields this year, it felt so good to be lighter! I am looking forward to the Turkey Hunt and to another summer to improve my bottom line as it were before Pheasant Season!

p.s.s. Add some grilled chicken to that "DamnDietSalad" and you have got a much more satifying meal :-D

p.s.s.s. Use up that game meat in your freezer by grilling for salads or a vegetable stir fry! Steaks of vension are super healthy! Just no rice or pasta. My husband has been making these amazing venison burgers (no beef fat added thank you - just some egg and whole wheat crushed crackers) that we eat with some sauteed mushrooms and a slice of Swiss Cheese - you won't miss the bun!

That's a great idea.  It doesn't have to be radical and starving yourself is NOT the answer.  I gotta tell you the reason the Nutrisystem is so good is becasue it is so fricken easy to do and stay on.  I have tried diets in the past and always fail because they are too hard to follow.  This thing is amazingly easy, I am never hungry and the weight does come off regularly and consistently.  105 pounds in 182 days and that was not doing anything other than following the plan to a "T" and walking most every day.  I'm really looking forward to this weeks weigh in becasue I have already tightened my belt two notches.

One thing for the ladies, do NOT be discouraged by the hug numbers some of these guys are going to post.  I visit the Nutrisystem website and most of them are ladies and they ALL loose at a much slower weight in the beginning, so don't get discouraged!!!!

Machias,
Thanks for the words of encouragement and thanks for getting this started.  I have an idea that might help as well.  I don't want guys to get discouraged if they see others getting better results than theirs and giving up because they won't be "in the running" for the knife.  I think if we get a few others to maybe offer a prize it might help keep more people motivated.

That being said I will donate something for the contest, maybe a gift certificate for one of Bone's 2013 calendars, if that can be worked out with Bone.  If not I will find something else to donate.

I was talking to my wife about this last night and she agreed to make something for the contest instead of a calendar.  The lucky recipient can choose from either a custom dream catcher or a leather wrapped photo album.  I have a couple pictures, I will have to look for one of the other pictures of her other style of dream catcher.  OK I found the other picture.

The first one is a standard dream catcher, she also makes one that has leather stretched out in the hoop rather than the "web".  The second picture is a plain leather bound photo album.  The third one is a photo album she made for a wedding.  The fourth picture is the other type of dream catcher.  She can cut out about anything for the front of the album and also has some cool stencils she can use as well.

Great idea, I started my own personal weight loss program Feb 13th. I decided to commit to the p90x program and started my fourth week. Very challenging but with the right diet plan it works awesome. I actually feel I get to eat better than any other time I tried to drop wait. A year of ago I was 360, so far this year I was at 338, now down to 315. Already dropped 3 waist sizes and expect to hit under 300 in the 2 weeks if all goes well. good luck to everyone.

That's awesome keep it up.  I'm at the end of phase 2 of the lean program and it works good.  I started it late as compared to just the gym but once I added this to the arsenal the endurance, strength, stamina shot up and the pounds have started falling off.  I do it in the morning and during my lunch I run and stair climb or bike and elliptical going hard with only a quick break to change machines.  Keep it up!

I had plenty of gym time, but it was watching someone else........

then there is soccer.
Lil Bone had a two hour soccer practice, then an hour with a personal trainer, then a 2 hour basketball practice.  I was worn out just watching.

Yes sir, I am in on the P90X too.  I just finished the first phase of the original work out.  I have been going to the gym for years and have heard of the P90X for awhile and I finally caved in and started it up about 3 weeks ago.  I love it so far.  I would say I am in pretty good shape already or I thought I was and even in the short 3 weeks I have seen improvement already.  I seen he came out with P90X2 the end of last year I am thinking of getting that later this year and trying that.  I seen some videos of some of those work outs, looks crazy but in a good way.  And to everyone on here working and getting in shape no matter how you are doing it.   KEEP IT UP!!!!  Great job everyone.

Start weight was 285, this morning was 267  :IBCOOL:

I was ready today warm cloths on hunting boots went out to the garage and wheeled out the bike my wife bought at a garage sale. She says can you remember how to ride a bike I say you never forget how to ride a bike. Then 3 feet and over I go into the boat trailer knots on the head and arm sore then noticed there was no chain on the bike damn garage sails. Now going to try walking it;s safer.

TeacherMan,

Be careful, you drop too low in calories and your body essentially goes into starvation mode.  Your metabolism slows down and your weight loss slows.

You guys should be trying to incorporate some sort of strength training in your routine, because as you add muscle cells your metabolism speeds up.  Plus, it's a great way to prevent injury!

Good luck.

I'll second this, especially for us bigger guys.  I spoke to my doctor a little while back about not having much luck losing weight and he asked about my diet.  When I told him I was down to 1500 calories he was surprised I wasn't actually gaining weight.  He said anyone over 225-250 lbs or so shouldn't drop below 2,000 to 2,200 calories a day until they had gotten down below 250 lbs.  He said the best way is really to just gradually work your way down and shave off maybe 100-200 calories a day each week or so, and try to maintain at least 30-60 mins of exercise 5 days a week.

Week 2 weigh in.  250.4 ,  -.8 lbs

As is usually the case after the initial quick drop in weight my body somewhat locks down.  Now the weight will be tougher to bring off.

Cravings for food I don't normally eat are really kicking in.  I have resisted so far...

I put in anther 45 minutes today on the tred mill at 4-7.2mph. Burned 542 calories. I only took in 745 calories today. With that said I'm feeling heavy from the corned beef and cabage last night  :chuckle: When I started on Feb. 13th I was 260, when I signed up on here I was down to 239. But then I went back up to 245. I think some of the first weight loss was water. I'm hoping to be back down to my sign up weight of 239 Monday.

745 calories is not enough.  I have a physiology degree and my wife is a personal trainer, so take it for what it's worth and what you paid for it.  You cannot be healthy  eating that few calories a day.  You are also hindering your weight loss in the process.

You have to have a 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound of fat.  Have you had a body composition reading?  Any idea of what your basal metabolic requirement (calories a day to sustain) is?

Try to establish a healthy routine that you can sustain over the long haul.  Then, you won't be repeating this again next year.

Good luck.

I have to agree now that I came back and read the recent posts.  I make every attempt to stay below at least 2000 calories a day.  I don't want my body eating away at the muscle tissue instead of the fat tissue.  When your body goes into hunger/starvation mode (whether you feel hungry or not that's what your body is doing right now and after your workouts) it starts to chip away at your muscle tissue for nourishment rather than your fat tissue.  Keep a good HEALTHY calorie intake and keep working out hard and it will all work out fine.

I'm at 10 weeks on the healthy calorie intake and work out regimen and I've dropped 41 lbs and it's all fat tissue loss, so don't take this as being preachy or anything, i'm not a compelete expert or have a degree in this stuff but I know a thing or two and whatever works for you then that's great, just some advice.

What the hell are you eating/doing? Why can't you eat a steak or ribs? The cheeseburger would be a no-go for me but a big greasy
rib-steak would be just fine!  :EAT:

Just saw this thread and will join as well. Currently 243 with the goal of 210 by September 1st. That is a good weight for me at 6"4". Work and winter always adds 25 30 lbs. that I have to shed come spring. I need to break that cycle as my blood sugar jumps to prediabetic levels at about 235 lbs and I feel much better below 230.

Healthy eating and increased exercise has worked for me in past years. Portion control and watching excess sugar and fat control my calories without major calorie counting. If I plateau for a week or 2 I will usually shock my body with a longer intense workout or a day of fasting.

Good luck everyone!

The part where I usually get discouraged is after a few weeks of working out hard I start putting on more muscle weight than I lose in fat weight.  It is a good thing because I am gaining the good and losing the bad at a higher rate but looking at the scale brings me down.

Don't let it get you down! I started working with weights after my nightly run on the elliptical this week and I have lost far less this week than the preceding ones.

Sigh, just down to 263.5,  -.5lb is all.

DANG, I want a snack  Toothpicks and cardboard are starting to look good.  Less desk time would help as well.  No snacky stuff, no treats, make lunches, no prepackaged stuff...I cleaned out the house.  Made beans/ brown rice, veggie soups, dirty rice(brown rice), Jambalaya and ham/beans and some cornbread w/o sugar.  All tastes good but leaves a hole.

Wow you guys are doing great.  I wish I would have seen this earlier I just never go to this section of Hunt-Wa.  I have lost 44 pounds since last Sept.  No fancy "diets" just calorie counting and working out to maintain muscle and create a calorie deficit.

Here is a picture of my transformation.  I am in my underwear so I will post a link instead of subjecting you to it if you dont want to see it.   :chuckle:

Picture shows me at 200, 180, 170 I didnt have a pic of me when I first started at 210.

Fell off the wagon a bit.

My house was broken into a short time ago.  Been dealing with contractors to rebuild the front of my house as the ass-hats did a number on things, the sheriff, Insurance, installing a security system, and am still finding things missing.  The *censored*s even took some small trinkets my dying mother had given me just before she passed.  No real value except to me.  Then the sum-bitches had the balls to come back and check out my house repairs and test the new doors strength.  My guess they'll be back with something bigger to slam into the door.

Anyways, the diet kinda fell to the side with all this going on.  Latest weight 249.  I plan to try and restart the weight loss effort.

Just saw this thread. I started in April and so far have lost 33 lbs.  My goal is to lose 60 by opening day of modern deer and 100 by the end of the year.

Great job guys.  Keep up the good work.

 :yeah:

I'm with you. Started in April and lost 30+ and I'm wanting to get down about 60 lbs total.
Keep it up guys. Only 2 1/2 weeks until bear season!

I'm down to 223, even though it's only 9 pounds that's better than up 9 pounds.  I was more motivated last year with a branched antler bull tag, then gained most of it back after hunting season. :(  Anyone want to donate a tag?  I'm sure that would get me motivated again.

Well, I'm still stuck at 300.  Apparently my Dr. thinks that my inability to drop any weight no matter what I do has to do with the damn tumor in my head growing and messing up my chemistry.  Hopefully we can get this fingered out and get back to dropping some tonnage.

240lbs getting back on track and over the next 2 weeks I'm going to be taking it to a whole new level.  I need to shed 10lbs by the 5th and that means picking up the intensity and increasing my endurance days.  good luck everybody that's still participating and staying active.

Hell no! Whether I want it or not though, I'm peeling the weight off slower these days, I'm making a few changes but I am getting towards the point of diminishing returns now.

229 -1 I finally broke the 230 skunk anyway!

I didn't sign up when this started because I had been working on my weight a little before this got started.  I started Feb 1st at 262 and this morning was at 220 even.  I am looking to lose another 40 pounds but have been stuck here for a while.  Im hoping I can beat it and start dropping again.

214 this morning.  This area between 225 and 215 was super hard to break.  I hung there forever.  Hopefully now that I am down past 215 I can keep dropping.  2 more pounds and I will be 50 pounds light since Feb.  Im sure that will happen this week.

Coming down from an unofficial weight of about 300lbs six months ago has been awesome, I haven't been in this good a shape from a cardiovascular standpoint in my entire life! From a strength standpoint I am doing very well  also.

235lbs. Got 2 weeks and I'm shooting for another 5 so I can say negative 100lbs for 8 months.  Congrats FC and keep pushing it and my loss slowed down but my strength is ever increasing.  Got my 1 mile down to 7:34 and that's almost as fast as it was before my senior year in high school.  Keep it up everybody, don't stop pushing it.

So I have been not jumping on the scale lately.  Due to getting geared up for the fire season for communications.  Didn't think I had lost anything maybe even went up.  Jumped on the scale and 325 -3 wow who would have thought.  That is down 14bls since starting this and 20lbs since Feb.  Good job to everyone else too.

234lbs final weigh-in.  Since the contest ends tomorrow and I'm going to be roaming the hills I'm posting now.  Here's my before and after pics.  1st pic is from Dec. 2011 unofficial weigh-in 330lbs at that time the biggest I've ever been.  2nd pic Aug. 30, 2012 234lbs.  Still on my plan to drop another 40lbs at least by end of Dec.

212  -12!

Unofficial start weight of around 300 6 months ago (I didn't even want to admit THAT) and a less impressive official start weight of 267, I am down to the last 15-20lbs or so now.

Congratulations to all who participated in this one, the results alone are a hell of a win for all of us!

Howdy everyone, if you haven't already, please post your final weights.  Joanne will get the spreadsheet done and we will annouce the winner within the next couple of days.  Sorry for the delay, Joanne started her new job last week, she got a job at a local Elementary School and today was the first day of school, so it's been a little crazy.  Once the winner is announced I will send the money to Rainshadow for the knife and the winner can contact Steve and let them know what they want.

Man,
I have been horrible about keeping up with this, life happens is my only excuse.  I did end up losing more, down to about 315 but still working at it.  My offer still stands for the second place winner, looks like Turkeybuster came in next so he can send me a PM and let me know what he might like to have my wife make for him.

Congrats to everyone who participated!

Have been watching this thread for some time and have been afraid of posting to it in fear I wouldn't succeed.

Just got back from Dr. appointment and he has confirmed my scale is correct.  At my May 24th appointment I weighed in at 287, today I am happy to say I'm no longer in need of my blood pressure meds, cholesterol and a few others due to the fact I have been successful in (DRUM ROLE PLEASE)  getting my weight down to 230lbs. That's is right 57lbs in 6 months.
:IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

Now all I need to do is work on my smoking and poof I have it made.  Thought I would share my great news to all and wish each of you success in your changes in life.

I can't believe I didn't see this thread, I started a competition at work back in May, with a few guys and lost 41 pounds, I started at 176, so I was pretty happy with the results. I'm on the way back up now (hopefully) in the weight room. Congrats to all the guys who have worked hard to get into shape, it does take will power. It's hard to explain how much easier this season was, I put alot of miles in and didn't really get botherd too much. Ate tag soup, but at least it was healthy.  :chuckle:
