I wonder just how many of us are members of the "330 club"? I can tell you it's a humbling experience walking up to the house with both thumbs in a 330 and asking for help getting out. Fortunately it was my own house and my boys know better than to laugh at me. They tried real hard to keep a straight face.
HaHa now that is funny, Or would be if hadn't happened to me to. Luckily I wasn't far from home when it happened.

Don't want damage to the fur. That's understandable. We had buckets full of traps grandpa used to set around the turkey farm between the hot wire and outter fence. Barn cats were the primary target as I mentioned in the turkey thread.

:chuckle: There is probably a bit of difference between a fox/ coyotes distal tib/fib vs a human finger. Last I checked a human does not have quite the fur a fox/coyote has, hence leaving only flesh and bone to whack. :chuckle: And, of course everyone knows that foot holds dont break bones!

He said many of the animals caught on his trap line are frozen in the morning. They've been hammering the wolves. The more they take, the more show up.

Sorry I can't comment on them. I've never used them, seen them or been around anyone who used them. Snares can be set up to easily hang what ever you catch, but there are plenty of animsla trapped in snares that are not hurt.

Snares are just like a noose set in a trail. The forward motion of the animal is what closes them. Whether they are lethal or not largely depends on the snare lock. Some locks when pulled tight will not choke a dog because they relax when the dog stops pulling. Those are refered to as relaxing locks. Some locks come with a spring on them too hold the snare tight so that the animal chokes down quick. Some states have regulations that require the use of what they call cable restraints. Those are a relaxing lock with a few additional rules as to where they can be set to avoid lethal catches. Examples of places a relaxing lock snare being in a lethal location would be setting on a fence or in an entanglement situation.
In addition many states now require breakaway devices so that a larger animal such as a deer will release its self if caught. Some also require deer stops which keep the loop from closing to a small enough loop to hold onto a deers foot.
The wolf snares in ID have a device that keeps elk and deer out by sheering the snare out of the trail if a large animal pushes through.
In addition to these there are power snares with a killing spring on them that is released when an animal pulls on the snare. They are very lethal and have been illegal in WA since I strarted trapping in 69.
I doubt that any of these snares would harm a dog if the owner was present to remove the snare with the possible exception of the power snares.
I see some of the animal rights groups making a big stink about snares especially in MT. They are trying to convince the public they are always lethal and you need to carry a set of cable cutters to save your dog if caught
The whole thing is absurd. If the owner is present all they have to do is back the lock up even with the lethal snares.
Dogs that are trained to lead will not choke in my experience. I've caught a few dogs in my day and the only one I ever killed was a wild dog. Actually two out of the same pack. One in a snare and one in a trap. Believe me these were not friendly dogs. The one, I thought was going to eat me.
