anyone have any good info on fishing the westport jetty for bass and lings? I think I will be there on saturday for the ling opener and would like to hike out and fish off the jetty. Boat has to stay at home for this one! Thanks!!!

Right now from what I've head the ocean has 20 plus foot swells, so I'd stay off the jetty..The best spot to fish for the lings would be off the point, but with water like that you'd be putting your life in your own hands :bdid: You might hit a fish or 2 at the fog horn, but that thing would drive me nuttier than I already am..

:yeah:
We always did well out past the green can and just East of the little cove about 3/4 of the way out. We used sand shrimp to catch greenling and then used 6-10" greenling under a big bobber for lings. This time of year the bigger lings should be making their way into the shallows to get ready to spawn. 3" plastic grubs in white, chartreuce, or black have been good producers on bass.

man I miss jetty fishing out there.. watch the swells and the tides( had one over by the surfing area that I had to swim part of the way back once.. ) and bring lots of spare leaders, hooks etc. Easy to get snagged up down there.

We'll be down to Westport this August for about 10 days of camping and fishing. Look out lings, seabass, cabazon, and crab  and maybe a bear or two

i like fishing the jetty but it's hard to time it just right. gotta be there on a day where the wind is minimal and not raining.
i've walked way out past the foghorn a couple times, most of the catching i've seen though is within a couple hundred yards of the beach, though. seen some big lings pulled out of there...

I almost lost mt Dad to that jetty. We were headed out to the end and hit that one real narrow spor about half way out. The waves were crashing over from the South West. I got across and told him that I would watch the waves from up top and tell him when to cross and not to stop in the middle. He did just what I told him not to and a wave crashed over the top and knocked him off the rocks. Luckily he was still in good shape and managed to hold on and i yarded him back up an on top of the rocks. He was scraped up and bruised but not too bad. We got out to our fishing spot and he stripped down to his undies and hung them up on sticks to dry in the wind. I was funny watching hin fish in nothing but his hiking boots and underwear. We caught a ton of fish that day.
