Wow...great picture but like u said cool but sad what a waste
-
why couldnt you keep that?

If a tree falls in the woods and noone is there to hear it.... Cool find!
We have a salvage permit for our school so things like this can be picked up and kept. Anyone finds anything cool, that is not an endangered species, feel free to contact me.
JohnVH, I think the rule is to keep someone from poaching an animal and then coming by later to claim they just "found" it.
-
wow crazy....wrong time, wrong place
-
That's a once in a lifetime picture right there thanks for sharing. my mom works at northwest trek and she said that they had that happen to a bull there.
-
Great...but so sad...picture. :ACRY:

Washington State allows only sheds to be retained, unless as mentioned you have some sort of permit otherwise stating.
-
This picture looks really similar to a picture that was going around the Internet a few years ago.
-
THat would be a sweet display to have at Cabelas or any other outdoor store!!
-
That picture has been around for a month or so or at least it was sent to my phone. I think it has been around for while
-
A few years back bugle magazine did a whole photo essay on the subject I think they titled it when trees fight back.

Yeah, a poacher would have had to have incredible timing to fell that tree to get that result. :chuckle:
-
That is a cool and rare find. I believe that would count as natural winterkill here and yes you could keep it. I am not sure when that photo was taken but If it was recent I sure would like to find a spot with that little snow.
-
Just a pic from a cousin in montana not sure on the whole story thought it was worth sharin
-
yea thanks for sharing "benhuntin"!!! Even if it is old and has been seen before, this was a first time seeing it myself. Thanks a lot!!
-
Of course you can't know for sure, but it looks like that bull wasn't crushed to death. Look at the space between the log and the ground. That bull could have lied there for days until it starved to death. :dunno:
-
WOW VERY COOL FIND. Looks like a heck of a good bull as well. Better a elk under there then a person. I have had trees come down why I was in the woods. Not very fun!

Don't get caught with a winter kill skull here in Wa, can't keep them. You will get fined for it and it taken away. Amazing pic to the op, first time I've seen it also.

Sad? Why?

I think about this everytime I am in the woods. I heard one fall a few yrs ago while conversing with a Tom Turkey on a windy day. Tree fell and he became silent, don't know if it hit him or just scared him off??????
Anyway, when I nap in the woods on a windy day, I make sure I am protected (just in case)
-
Pretty unbelievable. I guess I thought elk were a little quicker than that. I've seen plenty of trees fall and I would have though wild animals such as elk could out manuever them.

Not necessarily true. It's not roadklill. If you call your local WDFW LEO, he may let you take the head.
