So, upon seeing the thread about what people do for filtering water, the Katadyn gravity operated Base Camp Water filter in particular caught my eye. I checked it out on the product page at REI that was provided by someone. The 3rd picture, which is now removed, I was able to find on google images for your reading/viewing pleasure. If you understand gravity and look close... you will notice a problem with this photo. I had to send an e-mail to REI asking about it. I personally think this is hilarious, hopefully you will as well. :chuckle:

Dear REI,
I am writing you about your cutting edge anti gravity machine. I am quite the inventor myself and I have been working on eliminating gravity in my spare time. I have searched the US patent database and have not seen your patent for the Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter/Anti Gravity device (Item #737349). Now clearly your rights to the water filter portion of this brilliant invention are protected, however I'm not sure if you have noticed the attractive blonde woman (either one of your employees or an undervalued contractor) in the right-most image on your website using it as an anti gravity device. This is clearly a breathtaking discovery, which you may have never even known about if not for my trained scientific eye and this courageous woman. I would request (in return for my educated observation and for bringing this to light) that you please appoint me head of your NASA partnership division so that we might explore this new technology together for the good of humanity and finally that you instruct this woman to marry be (as she is both gorgeous and brilliant).
Thanks for your time,

Hello luvmystang67,
Thank you for the email regarding the Katadyn Water Filter/Anti-Gravity device.
While we appreciate the compliments, the design of both the filter and the anti-gravity device belong to Katadyn. That might be why you were not able to find the patent under our company name.
As per your requested appointment, I sadly do not have the power to give you a position in our NASA department. Please see the following link for available employment opportunities at this time:

Lastly, the gorgeous and brilliant woman in the photo does not work for us. The picture on the item page came from Katadyn. I suggest you contact them directly to pursue both the patent and the availability of the blonde woman for marriage.
Best wishes for great outdoor adventures.

Luvmystang67 - I would like to personally thank you for bringing humor to my work day. The day you wrote that email, one of my co-workers forwarded the message to me. We all had a great laugh, and do love when customers have a sense of humor and point out these odd photos that sometimes appear on the website. It's funny that I would look on here and recognize that email right away. Thanks again!

funny stuff! on a serious note those filters are really nice for base camps. we like to pack them in when we take horses, they're a little on the heavy/slow side when backpacking for us.

Haha, no problem. I laughed the entire time I wrote it, it was as much for me as anyone else. The response was priceless. Nothing like a good laugh. (Funnier to see the people who didn't get why it wouldnt work, HA!)
