My mother and I were shed hunting up the Methow yesterday and didn't find boo for horns.. maybe this cat's apetite had something to do with it... 4 kills within 100 yards; poop and scraped dirt all around them... Definitely made me glad I had a side-carry! I know it saw me... I didn't get a glimpse of him, though!

Why was I being questioned about killing a pair of cats now?
-
Well it's good to see the cat didn't have a hirshey snack! nice pics.

:chuckle: Yeah, I was wondering if it was going to be my turn to be wrapped around a tree there for a while.. initially, I found the hair pile with the jaw bone and scat, and as I kept walking and finding more kill sites I started to look up in the big pondorosa pines more... I really expected to see a big ol' tom perched on one of those 8-10 inch diameter branches just watching me.

Boy, I would love to bag a cat someday! It is definitely on the list...

And then there were wolves to....
-
Nice find....

Very cool, not a really big track for all that devistation.
-
The track in the picture looks like a large canine to me?
-
Looks like a good spot for a camera. There could be a den site nearby, good spot to drop the hammer on one later this year.

I've never seen Wolves bury their kill. Usually it is spread from here to kingdom come...

..........or left to waste with minimal portions eaten.

it does almost look like i can see some claw marks alittle bit...and the deer arent really burried at all...who knows! whatever it was it doesnt mess around

The main pad bumps out forward toward the toes and is not concaved back like a cat.
-
Yep cats kill lots of deer! You found a few but I am sure there is more then that around. They are sure hard on deer/elk/turkey and a few other critters!
-
I'm 100% positive its a cat.. deer all dragged to the same location, big ol' piles of cat poop everywhere, and definitely cat tracks. This is miles away from the nearest house, and while it is in wolf territory, there's no way they'd take them all to the same spot. There was another spot about 30 yards up the hill under a pine tree where you could tell it had buried/reburied an animal a few times. Perhaps the photo doesn't do the print justice but seeing it in person, there's no way its anything but a cat.

I was surprised at how much meat was left on the animal when it chose to hunt again... I had no idea a cat would be so wasteful!

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping! Its the perfect little bench in a timbered draw... I just have to figure out how to access it without it seeing me... its pretty far up a hillside that it can see in most directions for miles.

Its hard to tell in the photo but it has the three back bumps (err, lobes) which are unquestioningly feline, and the toes are more in line than a dog's would be.

I don't think the cat is done, it may come back to that kill over and over again! They will feed on it for a while, you may just have interupted his/her lunch/supper.
-
I bet it was a momma cat and a couple kits
-
Nice finds hirshey. Trail cam time!
-
Yeah they will stash some meat and still hunt! They will stock up so to speak. They will eat on it tell it goes bad. Cats do not like rank meat and in the summer months they waste a lot more because it spoils.

Looks catty to me..... Nice find.... Now you need a late tag for next year!!!
