i just transferd to wsu pullman this spring and plan on going here next fall. however this doesn't coincide with me hunting nonstop on the west side so i have now begun the search for a place to hunt deer an elk (or bear....or yotes) with archery or rifle or muzzy. i would like to stay with in an hours or so drive from pullman. i have been told theres loads of great hunting but im not realy seeing it :bash:....can anybody maybe point me in the right direction for some good public land ? or if anybody needs a spoter/packer for next year id love to tag along. any info will be much appreciated
also i am buying an idaho genral deer/wolf tag so im down for id as well but im much more concerned with wa atm since i already have two id hunts pland

buddy up with everyone you meet from pulman, colfax and oaksdale! If they look like a redneck and have a headache rack in their muddy truck (probably dodge white) Buy them a beer! :twocents:

If yer single....find yourself a pretty little farmers daughter with a couple thousand acres in the Palouse......

I live in Spokane. If I lived in Pullman, would probably hunt the SE corner for mulies. Would probably still travel to Yakima for elk though.

Lots of places but when you come from da woods it doesn't look like much. Plain and simple..the breaks of the snake, the palouse, SE the blues hour of so away. Grand Ronde, Walla Walla, Tucannon. Go north and hunt, Also hunt north palouse..Colfax around the palouse river..lots of places to look knock on doors. Also farmers always looking for help around harvest time. You never know.
I think I would just look for the farmers daughter whose Papa owns a ranch and chase her around campus. :chuckle:

I live in clarkston about 20 min from pullman. I know alot about the hunting around here. tell me what season you are wanting to hunt and i can send ya in the right direction.

I would make a road trip down to the blue moutains for bear.
But if you are already headed to Idaho for deer, you might as well hunt bear as well. Lots of bears in Unit 6, lots of wolves in Unit 6 as well. This way you can get the spring bear in and get Idaho figured out for the fall. Way more time to hunt in Idaho for deer, so you might as well focus some of your energy over there.
Best of luck.

I am also moving to Pullman for the fall term. Maybe we can get together and do some hunting. I live in Tacoma but have hunted the tucannon before for turkey and deer near spokane.
BTW anyone in the pullman area know of any houses for rent. I need a large 3 or 4 bedrom place that allows small dogs.

THere are no deer here on the palouse I would head to the Lynnwood area if I were you

Best advice I've heard in my entire life...

What buckman202 said ...... there are no deer in the Palouse or the Blues. No offense to all the advice given here, but I am a little bitter to the .... being buddy buddy with the local “rednecks” I grew up in the Pullman area hunting the Blues & the Palouse for deer, elk, pheasant … you name it. One day on campus (wearing camo) I was approached by some random guy from the westside, who started asking me questions about where I lived, etc. Long story short the guy became my “best friend” all through college, probably because I took him hunting all the time and introduced him to some awesome hunting grounds. After we graduated he basically wrote me off as a friend. Not sure why, but I assume it’s because neither of us were going to live near that area anymore and he no longer needed me for hunting. Again, I am a little bitter about the situation and felt like I was taken advantage of. Honestly, there is some good hunting around there, but be careful how you approach the situation. It’s a small small community and it doesn’t take long for the word to get around. I am confident that most guys on here are good guys, but I had to share my story. Good luck to you and GO COUGS!!!!!!
