If you don't mind where in the Columbia were you. Just looking to make a road trip first of the week trying to figure in where to go. Not looking for any honey holes just a starting point. Wouldn't mind pulling the drift boat and hitting a river or two down there just to learn a few new systems
Thanks
Brian

Cowlitz is completely blown out right now.. probably running 3 to 4 ft. over normal.
I have no clue what the Kalama is like,, but probably blown too, with all the rain. Right now, I would not trust a drift boat out in any of the rivers in SW Washington except MAYBE the N. Fork of the Lewis, simply because that river has dams on it.
-
Thanks I was worried about the rivers being blown. From looking at the long range forecast it look like a long wet spring might not even get on any river for a while.
-
I just got a report from a buddy down there I have no clue where they are fishing but they said the river is dirty! Yesterday they got 2 springers with one being a keeper and the other a wild and a bonus keeper steelhead as well!

Actually the Cowlitz above Salmon creek is running pretty nice right now.And I gaurantee you fish are being caught.Including a springer here and there!

That is farther up river than I know where to fish. I know anything below the Toutle is high muddy and fast. And lots of stumps and logs in it.

Went out with Del (buckhorn2) Justin and Alex today. Fished out of the Kalama Port boat launch. We saw maybe 10 -12 landed... then Del's rod just got buried. We threw the anchor roped as the usual Chinese Fire Drill got going. All of a sudden the fish was at the boat, and in the net. Was an easy 20 lb. Springer in the boat. We christened Justin's boat, as it should be done, with Salmon blood.
Del and his crew have caught 4 so far.

nice fish del

whoot whoot...nice fish Del
-
Good looking fish.
-
We had a blast!
Del is good people.
Justin is a great boat captain,
and Alex did well as Anchor setter and puller.... although I wonder if he thinks that salmon are as big as sturgeon with the pole he had.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
And Del gets excited like a little kid reeling in his first fish... :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Nice fish, Congrats!!!
-
Nice job Del... That is a good looking fish for sure... How was the water?

Water above Kalama is in great shape color wise.... it is an off green. Not the chocolate brown it was last weekend... but then you are above the multnomah channel.
-
The water on the oregon side was mud but on the washington side a lot better there must have been around 30 boats about 15 minutes up from Kalama all fishing 10 to 15 feet. We got ours on quickfish with sardine wrap but others were getting them on those little flashers with green herring John told me the name but forgot but we saw maybe a dozen caught and we were below the main hog lines.

Those Flashers are called "Short bus" flashers. Bob's in Longview has a great selection of them in both sizes....

I have had good results with the fish flash in green

Good Lookin fish! Nothing like a chartreuse flasher! There are a lot of different brands out there and they are all good!

The gillnetters have 9600 fish and we have 2400 that is the figures I was told. At cathlamet The 3 gillnetters I know who fished there one had 7 fish one had 11 and one had 32 and the price was good about 13 a pound. Hoping for an extension John-huntbear and I have a trip scheduled just hope with the river clearing up and dropping and the water temp to rise we might catch some fish.
-
The Columbia is staying open thru Friday the 13th, with Tuesday being closed to sportfishing for the netters.
There will be two more meetings next week to determine if the season will extend past Friday.
Catch em while ya can guys.... :fishin:

I think late next week we could see the run take off at Bonneville...temps over here to start hitting 60's and low 70's this week and next week
-
If the water warms up and clears it should be good a friend hooked 9 and landed five in huntbears secret spot. Secret like us and 30 other boats.lol
-
the fish are in the river... just not sure if the numbers are going to be there this year. If the water warms up just a couple of degrees... look out.

Way to go... Looking forward to hearing the reports for this week as things slowly warm up and water starts to clear up a bit..
