So I'm going through a couple of field tests for myself to see if FOB's are going to be right for me. If you don't know what they are, check them out here: http://www.starrflight.com/index.php
My first test was basic setup and site in.
Here's what I'm shooting:
Mathews Heli-M
QAD Hunter Drop Away Rest
Tru-Fire Edge FB Release
Spott Hogg Right On-5 Pin
Easton Axis 9.5 GPI with Black FOBs and Stock Easton Blazers Cut 28 Inches
Easton 16g Inserts
125 Grain Field Tips
Stokerizer Stabilizer
Setup was really painless. I just verified that I had the clearance. Made sure my rest was timed correctly and off to the range I went. My first shots with the FOBs were about 12 inches higher then the blazers, groups at 20 yards were negligible with both groups.
After getting my 20 yard pin sighted in, I switched over to the 30 target and this is where I first started noticing the tighter groups. I had a slight (5-7 MPH) cross wind and my groups were noticeably tighter at this distance.
I didn't really shoot beyond thirty yards as I was a little pressed for time.
Something I learned on my first grouping is to NOT group with FOBs :)
I immediately smoked a FOB and nock with a near robin hood at 20 yards.
Pretty happy with them. But lots of testing still to go.
Also, I have black ones so when I shoot 3D they don't give people a target. But I want to buy some blaze orange ones for hunting.

I did a brush test today with my FOBs...None fell off...Here is the video.

these seem pretty cool, just different looking... how much do they cost and do you pick up speed?

I haven't out them through a chrono against blazers. You can get them for twenty bucks a dozen.

Very little in my tests. I shoot 4 hp vanes "almost twin to the blazers" and there was only a couple fps difference between the 2.

thats a pretty good price, I might have pick a dozen up and try them myself.

Would make sense. I haven't seen anything talking about gaining speed with FOB's.

The website is in the first thread of this post. Enjoy. I've still got a few more tests to put these through before I sign off on them.

Yeah you really gain any speen the thing that they help with it the wind. They do buck the wind a little better then vanes. With small winds there is not to much difference between them. With a big wind like 20+ you will really see them cut threw the wind better.

Do you think there is enouf there to stabalize a broadhead? I just dont see that as a replacement for vains!
-
I shot about 5 different broadheads when I was playing with them. They worked good on most of my lower profile heads. The bigger heads like my 125g montec's I was shooting did not group as well.

:twocents:
I have shot them the last few years - Really like how they work with field points - shooting out to 100 yds too. Too inconsistent for me for broadheads though. From 3 blade Muzzys to the little Trophy Takers, they were not consistent from arrow to arrow.
I liked that you could do easy field repairs if you where on an extended trip without a jig or anything. Carried a couple extra in my pack with a couple of knocks, just in case I lost one, but never did. Probably going back to 4 fletch this year - most likely with the little blazers.
