While my kids aren't old enough to enjoy youth season just yet I will be heading out on opening day. I look forward to hearing how the conditions were and all the success (or not) that everyone had.  :chuckle:

Heading out for my daughters first turkey hunt, can't wait. We found em last weekend and a nice deer shed too.  Practiced shooting while sitting and she is dead on, now we just need a bird and the weather to cooperate.

I wish I could join all of you this weekend but it just isn't going to happen this year.  I'll be taking my son later in the month.  I hope everyone has some good weather and a safe time.

More excited for Saturday than any opening day I've had With more practice and a little more age behind her my daughter has gottten over her fear of recoil and the dreaded 'miss'. She's fully ready and excited about being behind the gun. Just one more miserable day of work til we can get on the road. Good luckto the rest of the youngsters getting ready to jelly some heads!

Good luck and be safe to all who get out! Lets see the pictures. Unfortunately me and my two youth hunters will be at home this weekend as the flu decided this would be a good week to stop at our house  :bash:. Hopefully we will get out later in the year.

The youth season turned out great for us, he was able to get both of his birds, his first one at 6:30 A.M.at 15 yards out of a group of 25 hens and three toms.  His second bird was at 5:15 that evening when a jake flew off the hill from 400 feet above us and landed at less than 15 yards just inside the decoys that he ended up shooting at 30 yards.  He was very happy, an opening day to remember.  I will get him to post the full story.  Congratulations to all the successful youth hunters!

Bust for PathfinderJR and I.  Bright moon didn't help.  I think they may have seen us setting up decoys.  They went around us in a big arc all morning.  Tried an ambush at the roost tree last night, but they decided to roost on the other side of the river instead.
Oh well, I guess it's on to the regular season... :dunno:

Went to Yakima Sat and came home Sun.  Saw several vehicles full of kids in camo in Dayton.  Also saw several vehicles checking out birds between Waitsburg and Prescott.

Sunday it was a pretty solid stream of campers, trailers and RVs headed west between Burbank and Waitsburg.

This year was the first year that we didn't hunt youth weekend, my youngest is now too old.  :(  Good news is we have permission to hunt some private property.  Got the scoop of they roost here, usually go this way etc.  Gonna try to put them to bed this week just to make sure.
