Who put in and didn't draw? I know of 4 people who put in and all drew.
-
7,458 people applied last year for 4000 permits.
This year there are 8,500 permits available.
Odds seem to be pretty good just from last year's numbers.
-
That was my thought.
-
If 8000 draw,
1. how many pay the price
2. How many don't understand the trophy aspect of a multi season tag and pay $180 to shoot the first legal deer they see?
-
Disgusting revenue grab by the WDFW. Give *basically* everybody who wants to pay the premium the ability to hunt more days. There are not more total season days available, so that means they are just cramming more and more people into the same season(s) to source more money. Heck of an experience. How many guys do you think will be in the pumpkin patch in the NE corner this November over last November?
*edited to add-
8000 permits at 180 each is $1.44 million. They take in an extra 1.44 mill just for printing the tags.

Don't forget the $6 per application. Add another $48K.

I am sure everyone drew..
Even I draw so something fishy is going on! :chuckle:

Add another $1.50 because the price is actually $181.50.

Real scientific......I guess so far everyone is planning on 121 for their late destination.....gonna be alot of company.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of it. Should be a lot of 4 point whitetails running around. See ya there! :)

DoubleJ,
Some people like me put in for and pay for the mutliseason tag just to be able to put in for hunts with a weapon I don't want to hunt with. So when I draw it, I put in for rifle mule deer hunts. I DON'T want to hunt rifle deer general season. I want to muzzleload like I always do if I don't draw a rifle tag. With that said, I didn't shoot the first couple legal bucks I saw last year because they were tiny. So not everybody who buys it thinks of it as a trophy opportunity, though it may be.
-
I don't think of it as a trophy opportunity at all. I think of it as a way to let me basically hunt for four months
-
It would be somewhat of a "trophy" tag for me. (if I choose to buy it)
If I'm hunting early archery season and see a spike, I'm not going to shoot it with a $225 tag.
With a $43 tag, I might consider it.
-
I wouldn't shoot a spike on a free tag.
-
I have drawn 2 years in a row now, I did not bother paying for it last year and I have not decided wether or not I will this year either. I probably will though, just to try it at least once.

Dont you lose your points if you dont buy the permit? Why dont you just put in for the points option if your not going to buy the permit, otherwise you are just wasting money on a permit application?

I will be there too!

You and about 7000 more people that have an extra three months of hunting experience under their belts...
7500 apps last year, 8000 permits this year. It's like a frickin' $181.50 "Participation Ribbon".
You're all winners in the WDFW's eyes! Group hug - bring it in! :chuckle:

Yes, you lose points but it doesn't matter anymore, because you no longer need points to draw a deer multi-season tag.
-
I wouldn't shoot a spike on a free tag.
I wouldn't either in the early season (but the last day I would).
That was just an example.
The point is my standards will be higher with a $225 tag versus a $43 tag.
-
i've drawn deer 2 years in a row, paid for it last year before the Discover pass imposition and now that the state is perhaps going to sell out the muzzleloaders(?), and now that the greedy bureaucrats have decided to double the number of MS permits for deer and elk, well im probably not, most likely not, going to bother to pickup the MS tag. I got better things to do with my money then feed the friggin state. Hell just because of the DP i was planning to run strictly barebones this year. no extras or youth donations like i used to do, nada. They raised license fees last year too. I'm fed up with the greed of this state. Last year i was looking at Michigan. for $195 i get two deer tags and turkey, and a nice road trip out of the deal. Found a couple guys in the UP looking for another hunter for ten days, total cost $340. All i had to bring was my personal gear and sleeping bag. They did all the shopping and put up a 20ft long wall tent.

O freakin yeah SELECTED super excited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's time for another poll: how many people would pass up smaller bucks that they would have taken if they had not spent $225 on a multi-season tag.
I guess it would depend on if you're more a meat hunter or more a trophy hunter. Me, I guess I'm more in it for the meat.

$181.00 for the purpous of being able to hunt with 3 weapons.. Now if you could kill 3 animals well then you have something there, but just to kill 1 I'm not that stupid to pay that amount of money..I don't see how anyone can justify this..
Oh yeah,,I didn't draw, so I just get to kill one elk this year :bash:

The MS fee is $225 this year? Does'nt matter to me. Im not gonna vacilate on this. I will not be pulling the trigger on the MS tag. i just cant justify that kinda doreme to shoot a deer. Ill wait tii next year for the elk MS and probably not pickup on that either, unless there is a real sea change in the WDFW. I kinda like the idea of paying $6.50 to scewem outta $180 or whatever they decided it should be this year.
-
Yikes!!! Selected for Deer and Elk..... Looks like its going to be an expensive hunting season :chuckle:

Absolutely! Thats the kinda thinking we should expect out of the WDFW. You draw the MS tag you get the chance to shoot an animal in all 3 seasons. Holy cow can you imagine the fire and excitement, loyalty and love that the WDFW would recieve if they had the brains to have thought of that. God Love ya Hunterman and Double J.
You show em the way Amigos!

Completely off topic but, I just did the math and for $1500 round trip in gas, a bit for food but not going to try and figure that out, and $120 for an out of state license, I can archery deer hunt on my friends 800 acres on North Carolina from Oct 17- Nov 19 and shoot 6 deer
-
We should get 4 guys, extended cap pick up truck, split the cost 4 ways and make a road trip out of it.
Could you imagine the looks you'd get driving a pickup truck through the I-5 corridor to drop a guy off at his house with 24 deer in the back?
-
wife and I both drew, doubt I'll pony up for it, but I'll probably buy it for my wife.

I got drawn and I'll defi items buy. Why apply if you don't plan to buy the tag?
I don't get the bad rep the MS tag gets. It's a great tag. Essentially you pay a little extra to get longer huntin seasons and more opportunity. I love the tag!
-
My brother, dad, neighbors, and two co-workers drew.

Its not the tag; its the agency.

I got drawn for deer and elk!!! Expensive hunting season this year but thats how it goes. Im stoked!!

I applied because I want to have the opportunity to decide later on if I want to buy the tag. $180 is a lot of money for a guy with a wife and two kids, living on only one income. I will decide in August if I want to spend the money.
And I agree, it's a great tag to have, great opportunity- IF you have the money. It's kind of like, well do I want to spend the $180, or do I want my kids to have food to eat. Know what I mean?
-
I drew a MS Deer. The way I see it is that I now have 3 months to take 3 kids hunting. I get to teach them how to use 3 weapons and I could do it one-on-one every weekend and never shoot. $181 to spend 3 months worth of weekends in the woods with the ones that count the most......priceless tag IMO. I didn't want the tag, I wanted the season, time is more important. I would shoot a doe with it just to give my 9 yo boy the chance to be part of it. It's all about perspective.
-
If someone has the means, time, and equipment to hunt all three seasons it can be a good tag. A lot of hunters find out they don't when it comes time to pay, in which case $180 is a lot of money.
It would be worthless to me, because I modern hunt the same place every year, and have no desire to do anything different.
-
I forgot to make the another point I was going to make in that last post: with the deer MS tag being a guaranteed draw now, there's no reason to just build up points for the future, so I figured it was worth spending $6 to give myself another 5 months to decide if I want to buy it.
-

You know that is a hell of a point! What a joke they are going back to the way it was before we can hunt all seasons but now they make us pay a ton to do it! So we should have no deer left that are worth a damn with the amount of pressure now on the deer good luck finding a deer to shoot at that is not running its ass off!
-
i didn't apply this year, although i have points built up. 185$ was to much for me and i didn't want to take away the opportunity for a guy if i wasn't willingly to pay the cost. i didn't realize that they would have more tags then applicants or else i may have put in for the permit. it definitely was a way to make money and that's all there is to it, we'll see how long it lasts giving out that many tags
-
I drew the tag. The reason I wanted it is to get my girls out in the field more days then just modern. Dayton for archery. Can't wait.
-
Damn! My brother and I drew BOTH Deer and Elk!!!!!!!!! :yike:
-
Everyone is saying what a great tag it is ( multi-deer ), well just how great is it when everyone else has it too ??????????????????And then theres long term effects.....todays elation will be another days disappointment. :bdid: :bdid: :bdid:
-
i really wonder how much it will effect the harvest numbers. I still think that most of us that harvest year to year will and in my case being more sellective may accually cause me not to harvest .
-
I had it last year and now again this year but last year it was fun to go out and not have the pressure to shoot when you see a descent buck because you have all the time in the world and not tons of pressure. Now there are going to be a lot of people out their flinnging arrows that have no right to even touch a bow let alone hunt that are going to wound quiet a few animals not to mention the rifle season i feel bad for anyone that chooses to hunt rifle this year its going to be a sh*t show for sure and it really is not a good way to take kids out and show them what hunting is all about when there is orange in every direction you look. But guess we have to thank our greedy state who cant seem to figure out how to manage anything.

Why did you even apply if it's going to be such a "sh*tshow"? You guys are acting like it's something that anyone can buy and there's gonna be a million people out there. I think it's a great opportunity to be able to check out the different seasons. I'm a modern guy but have been wanting to try archery. Would I give up my rifle hunt to TRY bowhunting? No. I don't really understand what the big deal is? Just a bunch of whiners who do NOTHING but b*tch about this state. Try your luck elsewhere if you don't like the rules. I, for one, am stoked to have this OPPORTUNITY! :twocents:
-
So am I but I don't want you modern sh*t show guys hunting my archery season just like after we both get skunked for sept your not gonna wanna see me f'n your hunt up. Good luck to all the modern hunters who wanna "try" archery. Shoot straight. :twocents:
-
It says I did . Being a bowhunter for deer it is gonna be fun to try a high buck hunt. Plus try some other areas for draws
-
Draw odds certaintly won't be helped with all these tags. That's for sure.

Pretty well said. Also, "most" of the people seeking to expand their hunting opportunities and willing pay the $180 extra dollars are "generally" dedicated hunters that probably won't be adding to the pumpkin patch and flinging arrows at 80 yards. :twocents:
-
I drew it again

DIY, so you now personally own the archery season??? I know several entire families that have archery hunted since forever who brag every year that they "stuck 3" but didn't find them. They weren't rifle guys who switched. It's not hard to understand that once you switch to archery you have a 40-50 yard limitation, no running shots, and you need to practice a lot. You act like all rifle guys are pigs, which simply is not the case. There are unethical people in all user groups. And if the "*censored* show rifle guys" ruin your deer spot by showing up, then your spot isn't very secret anyway. When I have the multiseason, I carry my bow when I'm scouting for muzzleloader season. I've made several stalks, got into range, and decided not to shoot for whatever reason. It was fun anyway.
-
I drew like everyone else. I put in for it so that if I drew, I could apply for some of the more difficult hunts to draw with all weapons rather than just one. If I don't draw a cool hunt then I don't buy the tag.
-
Its absolutely worth the extra cash to me. I work so I can hunt. In relative terms its a great deal compared to an out of state tags but everyone has their own preferences. I wish people wouldn't put in for tags if they don't plan on going through with out just cuts out a chance for the next guy.
Either way I am stoked I got drawn for a deer tag. Cheers!
-
Im not here to complain i think its great for those that will be responsible enough to take the time to practice but i have worked at a sporting store and seen people come in literally two days before season and buy a archery target and they said they havent shot all year and it just goes to show no matter what season u hunt there are going to be a few people who do not give the animal their all and go for an ethical kill and with this it will increase it but like i said i had it last year and it was a lot of fun for me because i normally archery hunt i actually killed my deer during rifle season and it was a blast so who ever does choose to buy it i hope that they take the time to practice with what ever weapon the choose and become good at it so they can do it the right way instead of making us all look bad
-
And divided we fall
-
this must be good news for all the local archery shops; more customer$
since I didn't draw the multi elk, probably buy the deer multi. And still archery hunt AZ in Jan 2013.
-
So, after reading through these posts, there are a few things that are very clear. The state is a bunch of money hungry whores. Quality, late rifle buck tag odds are going to suck even worse.

Don't be mad you can't kill deer out of your truck ??? Your not gonna do any better driving around during archery season. Just take your money cut it up and flush it cause I don't want to see you fumbling around in the woods spookin all my deer up.

What makes you think rifle hunters are the only ones that road hunt?? I know a *censored* load of archery hunters, and a majority of them road hunt also!!I believe we all pay the same amount of money to enjoy the sport of hunting and here you are basically saying your the only one able to archery hunt, and when its archery season all the deer are yours??
-
hey men ..sometimes road hunting is a way to cover alot of ground and here in Washington we have alot of road hunters ....There are different way to define road hunting ...I get in my truck and run logging roads and stop and check out clearcuts or what have ya .. when I am looking for blacktail I want to cover as much land as possible and alot of times I run a circle and always keep going back to where I started ..many times I pull up on a clearcut at first light and see nothen and around 11am return to find a big old buck looking right at me :chuckle: :tup:and for those who love bragging about wounding animals all the time they need to keep comments like that to their selves :bdid: I seriously can not see how someone could be proud of letting an animal get away and go to waste !!!
-
the tag should be free if drawn, what will happen when the state starts charging extra for your quality tags say an extra $500 for a quality buck tag if drawn, when you draw a quality tag you are rewarded but the multi season you are punished
-
I haven't even looked. Glad to know the draw happened...thats how excited I was about it. THere is a good chance I won't draw a thing since I have told them how I really feel.
-
I didn't draw! But I guess you have to put in for it to actually draw. I don't have the time to fully utilize that tag so I say leave em' for the folks who do. Give em' hell Bone!
-
Keep telling them bone!
-

Question: so you do not have to buy a deer tag to apply, and when drawn ya pay the 180 bucks. But.......what if you are like me and you already purchased the tag, i'm assuming that amount will be subtracted from the $180. last time i did this i paid for the deer tag, then had to also pay the 180 bucks.

No, the $180 is an additonal fee on top of the regular deer license. Essentially the multi-season tag is $225.
-
Yeah that! Must be like a crack dealer dangling a baggie in front of a junkie...........
-
It is I'm hooked!!! :yeah: but wdfw sold me peanuts thought it was good but.......
-
THANKS Bobcat...just keeping hope alive.

I drew the permit. Those darn husky tickets were on both opening day of deer and of east side elk.
I guess I have to hunt ML.

Are you asking if I'm mad because I can't kill a deer, or are you asking if I kill deer out of my truck? I tell you what. If I caught a deer driving my truck, I would not kill him, no matter how big he was. :chuckle: Maybe I could follow you around and learn something from an expert archer such as yourself. Since you own the hunting areas and the deer, I figure you'd be a good guy to go hunting with. Maybe, just maybe I'd finally get a deer. By the way, how many animals have you harvested? Any?
-
I'm lovin the MS deer tag! For those that hunt westside know how hard it is to bag a big blacktail. If i can pay 225 bucks to hunt all seasons..that just increases my time in the woods and odds of taggin a big blacktail.

I am a archery hunter but with a multi season tag i will get to hunt lat buck and the muzzle season so i will agree with the above statement.

I got the jar but the funniest thing. There was sand mixed in it!! :chuckle:

I am sure everyone drew..
Even I draw so something fishy is going on! :chuckle:
mmm hmm , me too. where is the money going..? Maybe we could get another pass we need to buy, like the discovery pass... how about the Outdoorsman pass for $45 bucks, and we cant be in the field with out it...... :dunno:
-
one thing for sure is none of you will be road hunting, unless you have a donut cushion of course

The money is going to go to feed the wolves program so they can support and increase their numbers so that they can eat all the deer and elk and turkeys so the suckers who buy the MS tag wont have any critters to hunt at all in 5 to 8 years. But not to worry. Your masters in Wa state govt are still going to get paid, benefits and generous pensions. Hey you cant have an outdoorsmans pass before my earlier proposed explorers pass; and its gonna be $50! the outdoorsman will have to wait till next year so it can be $100! :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
It would be somewhat of a "trophy" tag for me. (if I choose to buy it)
If I'm hunting early archery season and see a spike, I'm not going to shoot it with a $225 tag.
With a $43 tag, I might consider it.
That's how I feel about the out of state ID deer tag when I am hunting elk with my out of state ID elk tag.
-
I did not apply. I did not want to pay the fee if I was drawn. I will save my money for out of state!
-
:yeah:
-
Not sure if anybody's mentioned it yet, but another thing this multi season tag does is crowd the field more for the primitive weapon hunters who have less areas to hunt as it is. The reason people hunt the primitive seasons is because they are less crowded and you get longer seasons. If the State keeps upping the number of any season tags, eventually there will be enough people hunting them that the seasons will have to be shortened for the primitive weapon hunters. Because just shear numbers of hunters alone will up the number of animals taken in those seasons.
So basically primitive hunters will end up being punished for not applying and drawing and spending the money to get an any season tag. Their opportunity will be taken away to feed the demand for any season tags.
The separate weapon seasons weren't started to extort more money from hunters. They were started to relieve hunting pressure. Creating these any season tags does the opposite and creates more pressure. Because it makes money for the State, it will only get worse. The State certainly doesn't have the animals' best interests at heart here.
-
I applied for deer. I felt it was my duty to do so to keep the amount of non bowhunters hunting the archery season to as few as possible. I haven't decided if I will buy it yet or not.
-
:yeah: I'm gonna buy it and hunt modern if I haven't tagged out in sept. it should even it self out. primitive seasons do get the worst of it. But can you imagine openin modern with even half of the permit holders that would otherwise not be there it's gonna be dangerous!!! :yike: but some of the modem and muzzy crowd will tag out in early archery but not 4000. Should be a fun year of hunting that's for sure in Idaho.

Hunterman(Tony)
Hunting is my favorite thing to do in the world. I am going to buy this tag because I want to hunt as much as possible. If I shoot a trophy buck in early archery then I might be dissapointed that I bought the tag, but otherwise the $180 is completely worth it to me just to have the opportunity to hunt so much more than any other year I have ever hunted. Even if you only spend $40 on a tag it is still not an economical way to get meat after you figure in gas, ammo, supplies, time, etc. I love to hunt for the experiences... more meat would be great, but more hunting is what I am really after :twocents:

Hillbilly, you just about got me convinced to spend the money. I'm still going to wait until August 30th though. :)

everyone in my hunting party (5) drew deer and NO one drew elk.
-
This state has pretty much ruined deer hunting for me.

Ya, but if I did that then I couldnt put in for the rifle special permits and hunt archery. :dunno: :bash: When it comes down to it I might love hunting toooooo much. I barely squeeze by month to month, but $180 to do the thing in life I love the most doesnt seem like that much money. That is like 4 trips eating out or 10 half racks of good beer.

So the State up'd the permits. I have a feeling some of you would complain if they lowered it. In many states, you can hunt all three seasons. It wasn't that long ago, when you could hunt elk on both sides of the state here. Hell, we used to be able to bait bear also here. What I am seeing is a great way to extend our hunting season. Not everyone will take three months off to hunt. The die hard rifle hunters might buy a muzzy, and go out a few days after the rifle season. And who cares if more people join the field when you're out Archery hunting? Haven't you ever heard the saying, take a kid hunting or fishing? I am 32 and I am still that kid. So I am going to pay 225$ for a deer tag. Maybe I wont go out to eat 6 times from now till hunting season. My point being, I am a hunter. I'll pay what I can and have to, to hunt.
-
I think it is going to eventually ( the near future ), end up being over the counter.....We will be able to buy single weapon,or multi tags OTC. Plus everything else will be permits.....
-
As a bow hunter I put in for multi deer only to get a chance to hunt the prime of the blacktail rut, no other reason then that.
-
Being out of the state for a couple years can someone explain the multi season tag? Can I hunt any regular season with it? I'd do that for another $180. I love hunting, a little to much. :chuckle:

I got drawn for the first time after putting in since they started the drawing. IMO It seems like there are a lot of folks here that don't realize the opportunity this tag presents and few who truly grasp its value. Yes it costs more and may be expensive to some but overall I feel a good value. Most of us feel pretty strongly about how poorly the state manages the hunting and fishing here in WA, but it is what it is. I could go to Montana or Idaho or Colorado for that matter and pay 3-10 times as much for what this tag represents; More! More opportunity to be selective in my home state, more opportunity to hunt longer and harder, more opportunity to enjoy what I love to do most in this world. True, the quality of hunting might be higher in those aforementioned areas, regardless I think its a great opportunity. Having said that, if I get lucky early and my hard work pays off then I go home successful with a big smile on my face and meat in the deep freeze. I may end up paying a tad bit more than I have in the past, but oh well. It's all relative anyway. I have been eating tag soup for three years running and hope this breaks the cycle. IT would be nice if the WDFW changes some things for the better, but its a Washington/Seattle/Save the Deersies but don't you dare take away my late land state. Regardless I respect everyone's opinion and wish all the best!

Not a good value imo.... $180 more including the tag you already bought.... :o Didn't apply this year.... Got drawn last year and still didn't purchase it because of cost increase... :twocents: Then how much more money are you spending making all the extra trips... Food, gas, lodging or camping, normal problems arise all the time, wear and tear on vehicle, ect... Unless you can afford to camp out for 3 months and pick and choose out of all the deer you find... Don't remember what I paid for my last one.... Think it was around $40... And to me that was spendy... Even though gas was a lot cheaper and work was more then busy at the time.... Just really don't see the great value spoke of.... Great opportunity yes...... Not value imo......

I love it! With all the things we have going on with 3 kids, soccer, basketball, and dance. It makes it tough to get out (as much as liked) during my normal modern season. I dont have a late buck where I hunt, and I really dont have any desire to hunt anywhere else.
Four of five guys I Know that were drawn last year did not buy tag. I was the guy that did, and will do it every chance I get. It will be interesting to see how many of the 8500(?) actually buy the tag.
