Nothing for us yet. Spent a while with the e-caller and mouth call, but no luck. Saw some sign, got a few pics of scat and the likes, but no bear yet. Found some ripe huckleberries I will post a watch on tomorrow. Did see lot of deer and couple of nice bucks, but my camera would not zoom in enough.
Good luck to all of you, and say a few words for me tomorrow!

Got up at 3am, left Deer Park, went up above Waitts lake to the lookout then cut across to Addy Cidona Rd. We saw turkeys, deer, a coyote and most important two bears!!! The first one was at 5:25am, we had just left the look out and where headed down the back side when I spotted him about 500yds away coming up the ridge, the wind was blowing hard and it was sprinkling. I thought I could drive down the ridge and cut him off I was wrong. Mistake number 1. He was about a 250lb black bear. Down the road we went, lots of logging activity, three grouse, a few moose tracks and then a very promissing clearcut with tons of wild berries of several sorts in, down pretty low by this point about 7:30ish. We stopped the truck and started glassing, after about 15 minutes I thought I could see some berry brush moving on the other side of the cut, about 600yds away. Sure enough the second bear of the day...I could see it then it was gone, a very thick low brushed clearcut. We finally got a good look at the bear, it had a white chest and was only about 65-80lbs and around 4 foot. We watched him for about 15 minutes and let it go. So when it comes down to it, a really nice sunrise, some good wildlife, and two bears that really where never close enough to shoot. :chuckle:
-
nothing but deer ( 1 spike) yote shot at and missed. it was on the run spoled it as i was going in for the night. also found 4 joggers(wtf way the *censored* out there) and some a-hole driving on a logging road that is blocked off with gates adn signs tha say no motorized vehicals. oww ya 1 dog.. place= no bear marks poo or tracks anywhere, so ill have to move a little higher on the mountan. and foundmy new duckk hunting area.

Nice pics

Went out to were I got a couple trail cam pictures of a nice bear. Only got about three hours in and no bears seen. I did call in a couple deer. The wind was blowing pretty good.

Sorry I should have said that..I am guess 20ft or so...the pic is far away as I didnt want to get MORE soaked by going through blue berries....
Brother in law connected this morning with a 187 lbs bear....his first, just outside of Mt Vernon. I was in bed however. ;)
Here is the pic from where I saw the trees from (there are in the center of the pic). And perhaps a den.

Unless they decide to wait to sound off until you're stepping over them. Then it's a bit unnerving :o

Well just got home and got up in the woods at 4:30am with no luck. Lots of deer. That little SOB that I got the pic of on my trail cam does not want me to find him. So I am done for a few weeks getting married in 2 weeks then of to Jamaica 2 weeks after that so will be mid Sept before I hit it again.

I called one in on Fri. night with my Fox Pro Scorpion, while trying to locate it in the Cascara it stood up and busted me. It probably made the next county in nothing flat. I let BTKR take my stump the next morning, he is better caller but the bruin never came back.
The next morning while mvoing into a clear cut, a bear ripping a stump or log winded me and tore up the landscape leaving out of there. Never saw how big he was.
Sat. eve, I saw a good sized specimen, took the shot, looked and sounded like he was hit. He ran straight up a road so I couldn't shoot again. Found 2 places where he dug up the road peeling out. No blood and no sign of where he left the road. Evidently, it was a clean miss.
Saw a yote this morning but no bear. Came home but Rick stayed, he was having a good time.
All total, I saw 4 bear & 1 Yote so I don't feel it was a loss.
It was great to be in the field again and enjoy the sport and chase. I'll be back out in a couple of weeks.
-
ignore the pm cat, i see your gonna be busy
my plan is to head out some time this week for a 3day in some higher country, should atleast see a few. than i'll hit the local areas as a last resort

I spent the evening up at work hunting over blueberry patches and silver fir. Berries are still 3 weeks away but there was good grass and lots of stumps so the bears are in the area. Saw 2 ~ 1 small one about 175-200 that was only 20 yards away and one about 300 that I got to within 40 yards of. The small one wasn't a shooter for me but I liked the bigger one for a first bear (of the year). He went into some young silver fir and I couldn't get a shot, could hear him ahead of me and saw him twice but it was just to brush for a clean shot. Oh well, next time....
-
Snowman got a bear yesterday. After I get permission from him to post the pictures I will. His internet is down right now.
-
go onto a bear last night really nice, scared the crap out of my 12 year old brother, got my blood going really good also.......... after about 20 minutes of calling.....bear appeared and started looking for us, saw the deer in the field and got more interested in two fawns and does so i took the shot, knocked him off this big tree pile he was standing on and saw him run into the forest like a bat out of hell.....after watching him fall i would have swore i got him, but...went down and looked for about 20 minutes before it was to dark to look with out having a flashlight and decided to come back and look this morning and well, looks like it was alos, just like AL(aka killbilly)a clean miss......so hopefully ill hit it again in a few days and see if i can call him in again and get his intrest up enough to allow me one more shot..........
but untill then, im off again this afternoon for a three day trip in the woods to see if i can catch bigfoot.........
-
Zippo on the bears. Saw some moose and several nice deer.

I knew you could do it AJ. Better luck next time.

This is a picture of streak's bear. Only took me a few hours to figure out how to load it for him. Finally figured out that the picture was too big and I had to resize it. I'll let him add any story that he wants.(https://hunting-washington.com/cpg/albums/userpics/10871/brian_s_bear_2008_001.JPG)

thanks bear for helping me post the picture. got him saturday afternoon, hiked in about 6 miles behind a gated logging road to an area where I was scouting and seen a bear before season. Sat down to glass for about 10 minutes and there he was. One shot through the 300 ultra mag and the fun was over and the work started. Took bear into there the next morning and he nearly got one within 50 yards of where i got mine. He was a boar not real big but a great way to start the season.
-
Nice looking bears guys

Good job guys.
Catwithboost and I went out this evening. Saw 3 sets of bear tracks, some cougar tracks and cougar turds, but no live critters except the doe I almost hit on the way home. :yike:

Well here's my story. It was sunday morning headed in at daylight. It was pretty foggy out and windy, around 7:30a.m. had thoughts about going back to camp till the fog lifted. After debating for a few minutes decided to go to sleep for awhile where I was, figured why not. Didn't know it but my buddy did the same thing as he was thirty yards and out of sight. Woke up a little after 9a.m. as I got buzzed by a humming bird. The fog was finally starting to lift so I munch on some snacks and when the fog lifted started glassing and saw a bear about 1500 yards out.Went over and woke my buddy up and told him I saw one and pointed to where it was and the look on his face was priceless as they have nicknamed me the moutnian goat, so we gave a shout back to the guys in camp so they could keep a eye on him for me till we could make the mile trek around on the road to get with in range. Got over to where I saw him and shadowcat, zackamoli and dirtydan4 let me know where he was after a few seconds located him and found a good rest and made a 233 yds shot and down he went. It's short and sweet. Now on another note took dirtydan4 up this last evening and to my amazment there were more bears in the same spot and he finally got his first bear around 7p.m. 300yds shot. It's around 2a.m. haven't slept and now we are on our way back up to bring it. Got dark so we cleaned it and decided to leave it for the night. He will tell the story a little later and we will get pics posted soon.

Coming from a biology teacher, that is a pica
Coming from a country boy the local slang is Rock Rabbit...but yes I concur it is a Pica.
The high peeling in the tree is also, as said earlier, a Porcupine.
Thanks for all the pics of the bears guys and congrats.

Dangit! Someone needs to keep your family out of the woods.
First your bro-in-law, now your little bro...and in one of the areas I've been watching closely.
I may as well give up now!
Do post pics!

Well here is a few pics of my small boar. He was around 2 1/2 yrs. we figure. Alot of juveniles this year, the big ones seem to be hidding. But meat is meat and the young ones are tastier. Got my second tag and now headed to fill this one, but think I'll be a little pickyer. Good luck to ya all and happy hunting. Be safe!!!!
-
Well here is dirtydan4's pics. He will tell the story later as he is a whooped puppy after being up all night and packing two bears out with in three days with me. Well enjoy and congrats to those who have had success and those who haven't good luck and keep hunting and persistances will pay off.

I got mine. Stupid me emailed the picture to a co worker with too much time on his hands so I will also show the after shot. It should be good for a laugh or two.
-
Ya I know its not a bear, but thats all Ive taken so far.
-
That there is funny as hell!
She is nice fatty isn't she! Congratulations! That sounded like an awesome hunt, judging from your other post.
-
Ya she'll be tasty. Just got her all in the freezer minus the jerky which isnt done yet.
-
I like how he modified your face too...thats pretty good.
-
Now thats funny :chuckle: She so fat she looks pregnant
-
Ya she was plump. I thought the same thing when I walked up on her. Fresh kill though no bloating just big girl.
-
I would be afraid to open her up for fear of something jumping out at me i.e. Calf :chuckle:
-
Thats really funny. I got a kick out of the no hunting sign in the back. Very good.
