Thinking about a back country hunting rig for coyote calling. Something I can haul around the country(WA, NM, AZ, CO) and not have to tow so I can pull my duck boat or dog trailer also. I want something that I can leave my van parked a drive out so it needs to be street legal also.
Any thoughts on the Yamaha.

i have not owned one but know a guy that does for a summer commuter and gets approx 72mpg

My friend owns one and loves it. I own the yamaha xt250. I weigh 245 lbs and am 6' tall. The xt250 works great for me and has plenty of power. Both are great bikes.

I'm 5'7" and have a 29" inseam so looking for something low that I can slow to a walk if I have to. Looked at the Rokons but they can't be street driven, plus I'd like to run40-50 miles soetimes on the road to get to some places. 70+ mpg sounds good.

My neighbors short, I'm guessing around 5'6" or 5'7". He uses it everywhere. Got the racks for it, uses it to haul stuff around, beach comb, etc...

I am getting close to pulling the trigger on one soon. Everyone I know that has one loves it. All my research points to it being a great little do all that may not get you there fast but, it will get you there.

I'm 5' 8" 170 and like my XT225 as it has a 6spd gear box compared to the newer XT250 with only five gears. (thinking about selling it to get a DR350s. The TW is more of a slow loping trail bike with fatter special rear tire. If you're thinking of taking the bike on the pavement at all, the XT or DRs is a better choice. TW, stands for totally worthless as they are gutless via poor gearing compared to the XT. Don't jump either as the frame is integrated into the case of the engine. There are some after market tricks for the XT that make it more trail and road worthy. Reducing the preload on the mono-shock will drop an XT seat height nearly two inches. Check out XT225.com.
I've rejetted my carb, punched the baffle out on the muffler (keeping the spark arrestor), (a little more power on the low and top end), added a tooth to the drive gear, run a .420 chain with a slightly larger rear drive gear, (with the 6spd 1st gear still crawls, but 6th is good past 70mph ;)

Thanks everyone. The more I look into them the more I think it is what I need. Now to find one that I can take out for a test drive.

Wr450 throw a dual sport kit on it boom!! wouldnt want the coyotes to outrun you!! :4w:

I think the TW is a decent ride for putting around the woods but I wouldn't want to ride it on the road at 50-60mph much. There are quite a few smaller (225-250 cc) dual sports that seem to me to be better suited to what you are looking for. Height can be an issue but lowering links, suspension set up, etc. helps. Personally I would probably look at a used Kawasaki KLX 250, Yamaha WR 250, Suzuki DR, Yamaha XT 225/250, etc. :twocents:
I've owned the KLX and it was okay but its suspension, weight, and ergonomics limited is true off road ability. I now ride a KTM 450 EXC

Skyvalleyhunter has one. Ask him. I remember him saying it wanders a bit at highway speed. Honda has a street legal version of it's CRF250X coming soon.
I think the TW would be good if you don't plan to ask to much of it on road, no Interstates. Maybe a store run from camp..further up the dirt road from camp..
Last I saw a buddy still had one in his shop...a lot of friends taught their wives and girlfriends to ride on it..

They are a decent bike. Red line around 55 mph. I am not sure how big of a guy you are but I am only 6'4" 220 and wouldn't put alot bigger guy on there. With the factory tires they do wander a little. If it is going to be used for trail then you will probably want to go with a 54 tooth sproket and longer chain as the factory one makes 1st gear kind of high for trails. But then that depends on the type of trails you ride. Definately a lighter bike and easier to move around than my other bikes. I have one of the in hitch motorcycle haulers and its easy to load and unload. Get the one with kick and electric start if you can. Mine only has electric and have been placed in comprimising position at times. Also the gas tank is not that large but there is an aftermarket larger one. Had a tw200 for years and loved it. Thought I would upgrade to a drz400 which I did and instantly regretted it. Tw200 is in a class of its own for a reason. Low gear, low ride, fat tires, etc. Tw200 is a woods bike not a trail bike like the drz. Tw200 all the way. Love the thumper.

I like mine I swaped out the tank with one from my xr 650 for more gas. I have had many dual sport bikes, do not expect to fly down the freeway but it works well in the woods.

I carry my whole deer camp on mine just gear it down, fun bike..

Nice set up. Had the rear racks never the front.
I decided I am going to get a TW200 again. Anyone know of one for sale I am the guy to buy it.
