Title: Home made e-caller
Post by: Carl on April 18, 2012, 06:36:00 PM
With all the threads with Foxpro high-dollar callers here, I hesitate to ask, but here goes...

Has anyone built this "homemade E-caller"?

I'm very  curious how it compares or if it's jut a wait of time.

Thanks, Carl

horn speaker is 20 or 30 dollars amp is 10 dollars plus a cheap mp3 player another 30 or 40 dollars plus time and materials (soldering iron solder speaker wire 3.5mm jacks) it adds up in a hurry. its better to go with a pm4 or a cheap economic caller i made one and it worked but was a hassle unwinding and winding the 50 foot cord on every stand plus it would tangle. stick to hand calls or buy a pm4.

I used a Cass Creek Powerhorn ($40) and my cell phone for two years before I bought the Foxpro Spitfire.  A bit of a pain to run out the wire but not terrible.

This is one of my earlier callers after I got tired of hauling my 512 around.  It's and old battery powered computer speaker with built in amp. hooked up to my cassett player or CD player and called coyote, really clear sounds, still have it.  he speaker was $5.00 at Goodwill and the CD and Cassett players were freebies becuse the earphones were dead.

Here's an early Preymaster that I made wireless with an Azden remote sound system for a camcorder.  $90 for the PreyMaster and $120 for the Azden.  It is still calling dogs in WI, gave it to my BinL.

With Cabelas having them on an internet sale for  $149. the Foxpro Spitfire is one heck of a deal, you can't put anything together that even comes close.  April 15-18

Over in the Predatormasters clissifieds is this older 416B for $100.  It has a nice selection of sounds.  I don't know the guy but I havent had any bad deals there.

A friend and I put one of the Radio Shack callers together but could not get rid of a pesistant white noise.
