Nothing today Mark, went out all damn day and not one peep. Tyler caught two today though, I almost went to check where he caught the one later in the evening but said screw it and went home. Tyler and Beaudean caught that one on Saturday. I went out Friday and Saturday almost everywhere without snow damn near and nothing. Next weekend I suppose

Lol theres no typo, it's Bucksnot. Kind of got it off the Jonas voice text messages that were going around for awhile, not sure if anyone of you have ever heard them, pretty funny stuff. The red/white dog (depending on which one you're looking at, darker red, is a male, and the ligther red is a female and those are the two dogs I will be crossing as soon as she comes in. Guess Tyler even caught a 3rd one around 930 he text me. For me after driving around from 9-4:30 and not getting a peep I had enough, was too hot and I had some things to get done around the house. Ill hit it harder next weekend. Got a lot of hunting to do if I plan on catching as many or more than last year, doubt I'll be able to with a new baby girl on the way but thats life.

Tyler is always catching it seems like. I have been driving by and thinking of stopping in just wasn't sure if you was ever home. Fishing is finally picking up so I am starting to actually get people in my area. Congrats on the little girl by the way. When are you do

Yeah I think he had like 80 something last year and I caught 118, for awhile we were both neck and neck. I think it was a friendly unspoken competition, his dogs are turning it on and doing really good. He has a pup out of Savage that seems to be doing ok, just got her treeing some on the last tree I guess. And thanks, she is due the 7th of June but I doubt she will make it till then, I'm thinking mid to late may. She is a little over 33 weeks now so as long as she makes it to full term (36 weeks) I'll be happy.

It is fitting that you are wearing a WSU cougar sweatshirt while posing with a dead cougar.

Nice pics.  Thanks for sharing.

Haha yeah wondered who would all notice that. That cat was 8 1/2 ft long and weighed 170lbs, might of been a little more because it was resting on the tree, just happen to be packing around a scale with me. Had one canine totally worn off. Ran that lion off a whitetail buck kill, we were running a small bobcat and my dog Moose switched off when it got to that kill. Im assuming the bobcat was eating on it too and he took off on the lion. Gave em a good race and ended up treeing right next to a road, I mean basically on it, was good to get all the dogs involved on that one.

I wish it was legal for you guys too, I also wish we were able to take non-members with us but its illegal for us. I know there are a quite a few guys who would just like to come and enjoy listening to the hounds and watching em work

Never relised it was illegal for a tribe member to have a non member with them but I guess if you think about it keeps honest people honest (sorry military saying ) best of luck to you and hopefully someday will get it back too keep us updated with pics to drool over

Jarred, how much is a month of training and do you have any openings this spring?  I have a 13 month old I would love to get into a few more races then I'll probably be able to get him in.

Bart, when do you want to try and run a bear or two in Idaho?

Hey Fred, I don't have any openings till the summer time really and I want to see how things go this spring with the new baby on the way. Obviously she is first priority and if I have dogs to train they are my obligation to train so I want to see how much time I'll still be able to spend with the baby and be able to hunt before I make too many commitments this summer. When I hunt in the summer I go out before the sun comes up and am usually home before noon. The weather is too hot here to run anymore than that, and usually by 11 it is getting pretty warm out, which can be hazardous to the dogs. I wouldn't run my dogs in it, nor would I run someone elses that I am resonsible for. I only take females too, not that your male would be growly or ill but I just have had a couple problems with other males that I've trained and I don't really want to have to deal with that again. If you have a female I'm sure we could work something out for this summer like in July or August, sorry about that if you don't have a female. I will be training Bart's Radar pup but that is a special exception since he is out of my dogs and I want to see how these pups compare to my own dogs and pups I have now. You can get ahold of me on here or call me to if you want Fred, heard good things about ya. (509) 641-2030, thanks for the interest!

No problem Jarred, I completely understand.  I've heard good things about you from Bart, which is important when you're shipping your babies off to someone.  :)  Plus right after I posted this some life changing things are happening that I can't officially annouce for a few more days but it affects my dogs in a big way.  Congrats on the little one coming, that is exciting!  A future Houndswomen!!!

Well hope the life changing things are good ones?! Hope you can share it with us if they are something positive that you feel you want to share. That was nice of Bart, haha I treat them just like I do my own dogs, they are part of my family as I'm sure yours are. One thing people need to know is there is a change for your dogs to get tore up or possibly even killed and I am not responsible for that, Bart knows I will do everything in my power to make that not happen but this is bear hunting as I'm sure you know stuff happens. Bart's Tana dog got tore up and underneath a bear the last day she was here but I reacted quick and saved her life, that bear was tearing into her chest and leg, she took awhile to heal but from what I've heard she's ready to come back this year! I also purchsed a 10mm this year for my own safety (because of the future houndswomen on the way) and for the safety of the hounds as well. Oh and I charge $400/month of training and guarantee your dog will be under 15 bear trees before it leaves or I will keep it longer till it does and there will be no extra charge. Obviously your dogs can see a lot more game if they make every tree that my dogs do but that's not always the case. I think Bart's Tana dog saw between 22-25 bear trees while she was here, maybe more, can't remember.

Fred- I hope things are ok with you...keep us posted and if you need a ahnd with ANYTHING make sure you let us know.

I don't know when we'll be running in ID...if it would start warming up a bit more the bears would come out.  I haven't seen any yet- not even tracks.  I think it will get better in a couple weeks.  Casey and I are going to run together; I'll keep you posted Fred.

Finally got the 1st one put today after today being my 6th or 7th time out! Had Moose, Ryder (redbone pup), and Stella up top. Left Tater and Savage because I was trying to work 4 different young dogs/pups (real bad idea). Moose and Stella struck one time but the wind was blowing wrong and Moose couldn't get it going so the road we were on dead ended a ways up it. So afterwards I was hoping they'd strike it again and I could finally get something going. Where I was I knew there are usually bears there early in the spring, well they did end up striking it again really hard a little ways up and got it going pretty good. Bear made a couple big loops but stayed down towards the bottom by a lake where I started it at. Then it made another big loop and went behind another lake before treeing after awhile. Well I finally make it over to the tree and when I get there the bear is about 7ft up just out of the dogs reach. Well I thought this would be a perfect oppurtunity for the pups but the damn thing bails as I open the box, I offroaded it up to the trees in this sage/grass country, the pups go with em but it takes to a bigger tree and goes way up where they obviously don't see it because they havent had any experience treeing. After the dogs were treeing awhile on the second tree I brought the pups back to the truck and left the 3 older dogs at the tree. Then I start to go back in because I hear them at the tree freaking out even more and the bear is about to bail again, well it does and doesnt get far again and takes to a 3rd tree (that I saw). Not sure when but Girl got slapped in the face by that bear and when I got to the first tree her mouth was all bloodied up and her chin. Both times she's got caught its been in the mouth/face. Was glad to get my first one under the belt for this year. Some pics and a video:

I see war cry in that last pict, how is she doing so far. The one we kept is doing really good, the last cat we caught he jumped on top of it and started chewing. Hunter turned the other loose and had to rush in and save him. The other too have been treeing stuff in the creek bottom they live by and this is with no training yet.

Warcry made the race and was opening, she hasn't got the treeing part down yet but I haven't worked with her on it either. She saw it when it came out of the first tree though and took off chasing it by herself and I ended up turned them all loose again and it treed 100yds away again. She was really trying to trail it and was wondering where it went after it took the 2nd tree, haha

Do you know Larry who lives in Tri-Cities? Has a street by his name near the Ferry.

I have a Czech friend who is looking for a Cougar hunt w/ hounds. He's a really good guy and goes back to Czech to hunt hogs every year.

What's Larry's last name? And I'm not sure if you are asking for me to take your Czech friend on a cougar hunt but we're not allowed to, sorry. Tribal members aren't allowed to take non-members with them hunting. Where are you from and what is your Czech friends name? Does he have hounds?

She ended up with ten, eight red and two black. Bred her to one of peach's dog. He talked good about the dog and so it was good enough for hunter.

Wasn't sure if you were allowed to take people out on the Reservation for hunts.

A buddy of mine and me were at the Keller store and he was there, saw we had hounds and talked our ears off. Good guy! Does he live in the Tri-Cities now? He said he lived there in Keller? I know which street he is talking about too. If you have his # Id like to talk to him sometime, he wanted a good bear dog he kept telling us, haha.

I don't have his number. He's my Mom's neighbor in Kennewick. I know he has a place at Keller. His dogs are pretty cool even if they do bark a lot. He keeps an eye on my Mom and Mom's place when she's gone. He's got lots of stories about running his cat dogs for Weyerhauser. He has some real nice riding mules too.

Sounds good let me know if you get Saltz #, had a little luck today, pulled the dogs off the first race because the pups got split from the main dogs and the main dogs were going into no mands land and I didn't feel like going in after em. Found one later on, would of kept after it but I got a 4hr math test to take today:

Had a productive day today, ended up treeing 5 bears, I'm worn out and the dogs are probably even more wore out! Was really impressed with all the pups and all the dogs. Not going to post all the pictures because there is a lot but I'll try to post some of the better ones:

Can't keep up with the bears and pics! Caught 2 more today. First one Moose struck first and I turned him and a son of his that I'm hunting down. Moose made a big ol loop like he does trying to wind where he smelt it from and the son out of him, Radar, does the same thing just like his dad. He's damn near a clone of Moose except louder! Well Radar takes off opening lining something out and I start to think either A he got it started or B he found some trash to run, haha. Well Moose hears him but doesn't pay him much attention and goes towards that general area where Radar blew up and he starts to get lined out and starts opening. Well I was trying to listen to make sure I heard Moose open before I turned loose, not wanting to trust a 8-9 month old pup too much yet, and before I could I could hear what sounded like they were either bayed up or treed, I turned the truck around and drove back up the road the way I came because they were making their way over there and they crossed that road and I dumped the box. It was a good decent race and all the dogs made it. Another pup I just got yesterday is a littermate to Radar out of Moose and her name is Patches, she is a little speed demon. She is built just like a trigg and was keeping pace neck for neck with Moose and Savage in the front, even though most were not too far behind she made it look easy on her first bear ever. She has been to a few lion trees but hasn't got treeing yet but I got her treeing on this bear some today. When I get to the tree I see Radar's mouth is just all bloodied up and bleeding pretty damn good. Figured out what happened is he got slapped in the mouth by that bear when I heard em bayed up, didn't seem to phase him because he proclaimed his hatred for that bear when he was treeing. He is one of the best tree dogs I've seen for his age and just in general. The next bear got an ok strike, was a little windy today so it was hard to tell where it was coming from. I turned dog Savage first to see if he could figure it out, well he wasn't quite getting it going yet so I turned Moose down. Well not long after that they both go into the creek bottom and I can hear Savage start to bark and he gets to taking off, then Moose a few seconds after and I could see him behind Savage, well it was a short race, all the pups got turned loose and it wasn't long after they got it treed. Good start to Mother's Day, not time to spend the rest of the day with my wife (mother-to-be) and my mom later this evening. Happy Mother's Day to everyone's moms out there!

Thanks Wa Hunter, can't find all that is out there being single minded like a lot of guys are. I guess if they have the whole package in one breed of dogs that's fine but I like my Heinz 57 dogs! haha

Haha you're telling me. I started a bobcat this winter, just a small SOB that looked like the size of a housecat track, ran it to a lion kill 3 point whitetail and they ran that lion a long ways. He was a traveling cat and he ended up treeing right next to a road I found just as close as that bear, couldn't believe it. Got to appreciate those close trees like that! Trying to upload some more, got a few more to upload I think but got to head out to school soon.

Sure does bring back some memories for me.  Haven't had dog's now in over 10 year's, nothing to run here Chelan Co. except coon and a problem cat once in a while.  I used to run with some old boy's from Omak, Okan. and up on the Rez. back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's and it was a blast.
Must of watched your video's for a couple hours not to mention listening to the music the dog's were making.  Awesome job your doing with those dog's and please keep the pics. and videos coming.  You got it down my man.
Thanks John

Thanks John. I wish you guys were still able to run dogs but I know most don't only want to run coons in a liberal state like ours. I know for a lot of guys it was a way of life and it was just taken away. I've very fortunate to still have the hunting opportunities that I do and I definetly take full advantage of it! Thanks again and take care. Jarred

ol radar looks like he's having a good time.  Is he healed up and behaving?  I hope you're tucking him in and giving a good night kiss.  He sleeps better that way!  :chuckle:

I think he's going to be a fine little hound.

Still keep thinkning i wish ya didn't fix him, he would of been a dog to breed to in the future! He's probably the easiest dog to take care of and hunt out in my kennel. Handles like a finished dog and just wants to hunt. He seems all healed up now, eating good and drinking, seems still like he's resting up some though, 4 days straight hunting and 9 trees will wear even a pup out! I need to take some lessons from you and your border collies on handling, mine are wild dingos compared to yours!

haha- yea I just treat them like the collies...they get trained on basic stuff early on.  They also come in the house and are made to behave all the time.  I can leave them loose most of the time without incident- they also seem to know that they can garrass the cats, but not kill them!

Been an eventful last couple of days. Went out Thursday evening after school and thought I might get lucky and get a easy one and be back before my wife got home....nope. Turned loose around 4 and got home a little after midnight. Saw the big ol cinnamon bear once but never could get a shot on him, would of been a nice one to get tanned, pretty coat on him. That bear walked and bayed for 5+hrs with all 7 dogs right on him, of course my wife and I were getting ready for our baby girl to be born and she packed my camcorder and camera so I didnt get any footage of anything. It was hard to get into where they were walking and baying because there wasn't any roads close to where they were, just around it, everytime I would try to get close to end it the bear would break and run. Had to dogs get slapped, one was the Patches female out of Moose and WACoyoteHunter's female, she ended up breaking a couple ribs and looks like she will be heading home tonight or tomorrow. Gonna be awhile before she heals up. My other male got a good gash and a couple claw holes on his side too. I heard when Patches got hit, she's a hurting unit now. It was my fault for not getting in there and ending it but like I said everytime I would get close the bear would break and run. The next day I ended up going out with a buddy who has a bunch of younger dogs, they all did pretty good but at the end it was just Stella, Moose, and Savage on the bear still, they were already tuckered from the night before and Stella spent the night in the woods because I couldn't get to her and she was still ready to go the next day. Well they finally treed that bear the second day and were treed for a couple hours, we had to go way around to get to a road above them. Well should of went from below them, which would of taken longer but at least the bear wouldnt have winded us. The wind was coming off the top of the ridge and blowing hard down towards the tree. Dogs were treeing real hard right before we got about 150yds above them and bailed out then they were walking and baying it for another good 2-3hrs, got in to hear the bear huffing around once but I couldn't get close enough, winded me again. Overall I was pretty pleased with the dogs, especially with how well the pups out of Moose have been doing!

Been super busy lately to say the least. School, baby doctors appointments, and hunting. And now my baby girl is finally here! Wasn't able to hunt that much the last couple of weekend due to my wifes due date being so close and it was well worth the wait. We welcomed my daughter Reese Rylynn Erickson at 7lbs 10oz on June 1st into this world. Happiest day of my life! It was a pretty crazy day. Even though I wasn't able to get out much and hunt a good buddy who is actually my 3rd cousin went out and hunted a few of my dogs and caught some more bears. Caught 30 so far this year, been slower than I expected but still having a good year and most days like today I am hunting pups younger than a year old. Today I hunted 8 dogs, Moose and 7 pups! Talk about a crazy hectic day! Treed one and almost got ran over by a big boar that Moose treed by himself 3 times, the pups got in on it bayed up and id good but just dont have the endurance quite to keep up with Moose. WaCoyoteHunter's pups are doing awesome, to say the least, his Nosey dog, that I just got recently after Chris's dog that I was hunting got a broken rib or two from a bear, is crazy fast and just has a hatred for those bears when she trees. Did great on the bayup too from what I could hear. It just pissed rain today, I had to change my jeans, sweatshirt, and shirt because they were barely hanging on me when I got back to the rig, looked like I jumped in the lake.

great pictures Jarred!!  I sure like seeing nosey getting under some trees!!!

Let me know when you need rid of those potlickers.  I can come pick them up whenever.  Their summer camp has been a good one!!  :)

they have been doing really well, turned Nosey down with her and they got it going, was just a smaller one, was making it tougher to trail, did really good. Both are just wound up at the tree, go crazy, cant believe how loud they both are, especially Nosey for being a female!

thanks cement finisher, ol Moose is tired, caught 1 bear thursday evening, 2 on saturday and a bobcat, then 2 on sunday. In between Saturday and Sunday he bred Houndhunters female on the forum here. Poor guy. I hope Houndhunter like the pups, hope they are some good ones!
