There will be a bowfishing tournament in Tri-cities may 19th and 20th. Although there will be some money changing hands :) it's really just a couple days of a good bunch of guys ridding the CR of more carp, while we have fun and BS. We'd love to have anyone and everyone that enjoys sticking a few fish. Prizes, Raffle and laughs. We'll be at Kennewick Ranch and Home Saturday if anyone wants to stop by and chat it up. We'll have a couple boats (w/lights) and set-ups. Also, we'll have some raffle tickets for a decked out Oneida Bowfishing Bow. Hit me up with questions. See ya in the scum.
-
that sounds fun.Did you shoot the jackpot
-
Yea, We shot the jackpot. It was a kick in the pants! It was a great group of guys and there were plenty of fish for April. I was really surprised that there were 28 teams. That just shows how much the sport is growing. Were you there??
-
Sounds like a good time Stickers! Count me in on the fun in Tri-Cities! Mmmmm carp eggs
-
It was great seeing so many Bowfishers show up at Ranch and Home on Saturday. We were able to register a couple additional teams for the tournament and show off our Oneida Osprey (set-up) that we are raffling off. It's always amazing to me how many people use to bowfish and still have a passion for wading out and sticking fish. It was also great to talk with people that had no idea that people first of all "bowfish", and second of all that it is a recreational opportunity in our area. Thanks to everyone that stopped by and chatted us up. If your planning on attending the Tri-Cities Bowfishing Tournament on May 18-19, you only have a week to get in those registrations. Even though the water is high the fish are just starting to pod up. We shot on Sunday, and I havn't seen so many fish so early in the year, and they are BIG!! Any questions give me a shout. Scott @ 509-845-3685. I can point you in the direction of forms and raffle tickets.
See you on the water!!!!!!

The tournaments one week away  The weather is looking great (80s with sun) and the river is calming down. Man , we're getting excited!!! A couple quick notes for those of you who want to get your competitive fix with your favorite passtime. We will be setting up the registration table (home) at Campsite #5, in Hood Park friday afternoon. Please make sure you check in and attend the rules meeting at 7pm. If your running late 6am will be another opportunity to get the low down. Happy to see all the support of the community and shooters as we ressurect this wonderful shoot! Make sure you bring cash if your registering at the Tournament. We'll have registration forms at the shoot.
Thanks to all!!!! Please feel free to call if you have any questions.

Hopefully these posts are helping some of you guys out there.
Tournament Update: 5 days out.
We currently have 17 boats with a total of 44 shooters registered in the tournament. It's amazing, every shape and size of boat will be there. Water conditions are getting better everyday and fish are being fou d everywhere. From the feedback we've got already guys are really excited about the 20 fish format because it evens the playing field. Also prize wise, we're close (6 shooters away) to hitting our $250 cash payout for big fish payout each day!!!! Awesome!!
Be aware that Hood Park is full and has opened their overflow area. It's dry camping but the price is much lower.
Thae countdown begins today. See you all there for some old fashioned FUN!!!
-
Just in case some of you saw that the Hood Park boat ramp was closed last weekend, rest assured. The ramp is now back open, and will remain that way, after some quick work on the interchange. No worries!!!
-
Any results to share? Should have been a good time frame :IBCOOL:
-
Should have updated this sooner but I went straight from the tournament to vacation with family.
2012 Tri-Cities Bowfishing Tournament Summary
24 teams with a total of 63 shooters harvested a total of 5300+ lbs of carp (which were donated to a gentlman that had a great use for them).
We were able to pay out $5000 in big fish and placing pots.
Everyone had a great time and the only casualties were a half dozen props.
Saturday was great shooting, Sunday was tougher with overcast skies.
We are looking to possibly move the date of the tournament back a couple weeks to allow water clarity to improve and make sure the salmon guys don't clash with us.
All in all, it was a huge success and we Felt very privileged to be able to host an event that brings local sportsman together for good times and a little competition.
Hopefully we'll have an even bigger turn-out next year!!!
Scott
-
You guys should host more than one tournament a year here. There are way too many carp in these waters.
-
Yeah I think moving it back would really kick up the numbers. The water temp here is still to low and they are not really in the shallows yet.
-
Maverick, did you shoot the tournament?
Later in the year will most likely produce more fish. Compared to the last Tri-Cities tournament (August, 2010) we weighed in 300 lbs less this year. I say "weighed in" because many teams shot more than their 20 on Saturday.
We would consider having a couple tournaments but as it stands most of our shooters are out of towners and mainly the money brings them in. Sponsors are tight. We might look at a Jackpot format early and a tournament later. We'll see how the rest of the year plays out before we make a decision.
If your in the Tri-Cities and want more shooting...State Championship is June 16-17 at potholes (possible 50 boats) and Boardman is August 12-13. Both great shoots with tons of fish!!!
-
No I need to get a reel set up on my bow.. any reccomendations? Id love to do the tournaments. What was the biggest fish shot?
-
The big fish for Tri-cities was 28+. It was a nice fish! If you want to take a look at all the results they're on Washingtonbowfishing.com. It's under tournament results. You'll also be able to see all the other tournament results for the last couple years.
I just started shooting tournaments last year. Made it to Five. It's a blast and very addictive. I think as I get older it's harder to fulfill that thrill of competition, this sport does it for me. The guys that frequent these events are some of the most easy going and down to earth guys out there. I'm saying this even after putting on a tournament. That's should mean something. It took me a couple of years thinking about entering tournaments before I actually did. The anxiety reminded me of launching my boat for the first time at Ringold in the fall for salmon. Pretty overwhelming but I found out most guys are understanding and willing to help.
As for reels. I heard a saying my first tournament and it's stuck with me ever since. "if you want to shoot tournaments, shoot a retriever. If you want to win tournaments shoot a spinner." This guy that told me this knows his business and is always in the money. I think I'll leave it at that. I own retrievers and spinners but you'll only see spinners on my boat during a tourney.
Any more questions just ask.
-
Yeah what's a spinner and a retriever? Haha. What brands should. I be watching? I want a good setup and I'm not afraid to put some money into it. My dad did it for years with just some string. Tied one end to the arrow and the other to his belt. Haha. I would love to have him do a tournament with me. I know he'd have a blast.
-
There's only one retriever brand AMS. Easy to use, minimal risk and very reliable. Spinners (like Zebcos) are about the same price as retreivers by time you add the reel seat, rod, and line. Top two are Muzzy XD, and the Shakespeare Ti20. Both have strong followers. Both also take Practice to use. More things to go wrong. Forget to push button and SNAP. Line broken and usually the pick up pin too. The reason why guys shoot these in tourneys is because they have less drag than retrievers, when properly lubricated, which means farther or deeper shots. They also have are faster to retrieve. A miss can come back in half the time it takes to retrieve the arrow with an AMS. Also after a successful shot trip the bail and the spinners drag kick in. Makes for consistent and steady tension on the fish.
Line around a drum, retriever or spinner they all kill fish. Just come out and have a good time with us!!
-
Mave, if you are wanting to try a set up before buying, you are more than welcome to come out with me and shoot my bow. I will drive you around and see if we cant find a fish or 40 to shoot at.
-
I think I want the spin set up. I have a bow and fish arrow so I need the Shakespeare reel and what else? 92xj you and I will definetly go shoot some carp. It looks like guys have been hunting Casey pond for carp this year harder than ever.
-
Yeah, we shot 9 out there a few weeks ago. I am taking my taxidermist out this weekend at some point. If his wife doesnt go, I will let you know and you can meet us wherever and I will pick you up in the boat. If she does, I could go back out Sunday afternoon sometime and waste the day away. Shoot me your number again, I dont have it in my phone anymore or maybe cant remember your name to find it.
-
Saturday is no good but sunday is.
-
We were out at Casey's last night and there's still tons of fish but they are tearing up the water. Visibility is down. Good luck!!
-
Has anyone tried the new laser sight that goes in the arrow shaft for carp. Or has anyone tried the actual laser sight that mounts like a normal sight? I was thinking of trying one of these. With a laser you do not have to worry about angles and aiming low. Just put the laser on the fish and let er rip.
-
How's that work?

I talked a lot with the guy at the portland show. It for sure has some flaws that I want to see fixed before I try them. I know a few guys that have run the laser sights and they say they are o.k but not worth the $. The laser points are supposed to work great but are not very tuff. One time of shooting into a rocky shallow and they are toast.
-
Sounds like fun, trying to put the dot on the fish. I'm sure they'll find their niche in the bowfishing community. Price is the deal breaker right now!
-
I bought the shakespeare reel. What pound test are you guys running on it? Braided or mono or??? Just wanting to get the right set up. After that 92xj you and need to go tear the carp up!
-
Those are good reels. Brownell fast flight 200lb, is what your looking for. Mono has too much memory, braid will slice the bajesses out of your fingers (when the drag can't pull in that 25lber in the weeds). You'll have to order it from Bowfishing Shack or Bowfishing extreme. Ranch and home may carry it now, I talked to John about how it's a mandatory to have in store. Wet the line before shooting (toss out the arrow) and then hit it with some reel magic. Sold at walmart. Keeps it limp, slick and fast flowing out of the reel.
Good luck.
-
I didn't buy a laser sighted arrow either because I was worried about blowing the tip up on a rock. The other problem was battery life. I guess they really eat up the batteries. I shoot instinctive now for carp and I do my share of missing. Almost all of my misses are because I misjudge the angle/depth and do not hold low enough. Seems like with a laser sight you would be very deadly. It might be worth it for some tournament shooters.
-
The laser is near invisible in the direct sunlight. Not to mention it takes a fair amount of time/effort to put the laser on the fish. I tournament fish instinctive. I've tried sights but those fish don't stay still long. It's amazing how fast your brain can adjust for depth and distance with a little practice. I don't think I could afford it for a tournament either. At Tri-cities I broke 4 tips and mangled a couple other arrows. $$$$.
-
The owner of the laser tips said he was going to send me a couple from the trade shows last year. Those were like jan/feb and have not seens them yet. Don't think I will did't think much of them when I saw them. I was planning on maybe taking them of a bowfishing trip for sharks. I figured in open water and on film they would be sweet! They just don't have the holding like the innerloc heads I shoot for big fish.
-
Carp sniper do you have any of these films your talking about that we can watch
-
Only 4 more days until the Washington State Bowfishing Tournament is held on Potholes Reservoir!!! I know there's a ton of you guys tossing around the idea of a tournament. This is the one to go to! Fish are everywhere in that reservoir. I believe it'll bring in 50 boats this year, which means they'll pay out 15 places. That's a great opportunity. If you have any questions or just want somebody to talk you into a great weekend of killing fish and telling stories give me a call. Anything I can do to get more people involved in the sport is my pleasure. Get out ther and do it!

Stickers I cant wait to get on the water we have 12 new teams over last year right now and hoping for at least 5 more to show up hopfully we get some guys from Goldendale to come hint hint!!
-
Just personal DVDs from years past. Not uploaded to the net. I will be putting together a video again this year with my new software to upload it to youtube. I will try to video some of my clients and do some shooting with my guys. The main film will run on trophy state of mind this year. It should run in the next few months. I will post up a time and day when I hear from Matt that they are running it on tv.
Problem is I always am in the middle of hay season and can't really drop what I am doing. When the farm makes all of its money in a matter of a few months. I can get a lot done in 2-14hr days that I would be gone for the shoot :bash: I would love to guys and rock a few of my sponsors.
Are one of your guys the staff shooters for Scott? I have know Scott for a long time. He has always treated me great and hooked me up. I saw 2 staff shooters in the back of his magazine from WA so I thought I would ask if it was any of you guys.
-
ha just saw the picture of your boat and recognize it from the photo's. Answered my own question :chuckle:
-
yes it is my partner and I that shoot for scott
-
I think you'll get a few more. Ran into a boat Monday night that was on the fence about entering. I think we convinced them that they couldn't miss the fun. Especially with the weather (knock, knock) looking gooood!!!
-
I'm new to Hunting Washington. Thanks Scott for letting me know about the forum. For any of you thinking about tournaments, just make the leap! I have been bowfishing since I was kid in Missouri and brought my passion out to Washington. My long time hunting and fishing partner, my son and his grandpa all got involved with our first tournament last year at the WBA State Championship and every one of us are now hopelessly addicted. We shot our first tournament with a pair of recurves and AMS retrievers. We placed in the middle of the pack out shooting about 14 other teams. This won us the "joe-average" award and two brand new Alpine bows. I can't wait for this weekend as it is our one year anniversary, the weather is shaping up to be great and the sticking should be awesome.
-
Are the results posted or does anyone have them handy?
-
Not yet, email should be out tomorrow from the WBA. It should also be uploaded to Washingtonbowfishing.com. It's a shame the Trophies went to Oregon this year.
-
nice never bow fished might take it up though sounds fun.
-
It's an absolute hoot! Plentiful opportunities around Washington. Beware, once you get started its hard to stop.
-
any one know the dates for this year?
-
Just posted them on a new thread.

Update on the 2013 Tri-Cities Bowfishing Tournament (June 29-30)
#1: The tournament is now the 2013 Ranch and Home Tri-Cities Bowfishing Tournament. These guys helped us out a lot last year but this year they are stepping up big time. Tons of Raffle items and gear. It's going to hopefully allow us the ability to increase our Payouts this year for the top 30% of the teams. Shoot last year we paid out over $1200 to first place alone, $5000 total for all winners. By the way if you need Bowfishing Gear, check out Ranch and Home. John in the Archery department, has finally got the good stuff in. Plus their going to be carrying some new arrows by RPM. Very Cool.
#2 It looks like we are going to be able to use the Overflow area at Hood Park for our out of town campers, Dinner, Raffle and Ceremonies. Yea, It's a little rough but we get to be stinky selves and enjoy good stories and company without bothering the camp hosts or other guests in the park. If you need power you will have to bring a benny, or reserve a camp spot with hookups. Last time I checked there were over 25 sites left. Don't wait too long.
