OK I just decided to by a nice little dirt/street bike trailer.
Im going to use it as my camper once I get to where Im riding.
I want to do some cool stuff to it like a roll out awning. stereo system upgrade the electrical ect.
I thought You guys would have some cool ideas and maybe some pictures of the completed ideas.
As always You folks rock and cant wait to hear and see some ideas.
P.S this little trailer is a WellsCargo 5'x8' perfect for up to 2 bikes and a cot or fold down bed.
Thanks in advance.

I have one that I put a bed in and planned on doing more but decided it was to small for what we need. So we have been looking at ordering a bigger one so I can add all of what you have above. Basically it will be a complete toy hauler for about half the price.

Be careful how you heat it, make sure it is vented well.

Yeah this is very important and made me nervous. I used a mr buddy heater attached to the wall with the roof vent cracked and two carbon monoxide sensors. It works well and I have not had any problems but I think I am going to use a rv heater on the next one but we will see.

Check this link out some pretty good info here . Probably a bit more than what you are looking for but good work and very helpfully.

The carbon monoxide sensor is a great idea. This little trailer comes with a wall mounted Mr buddy and it has 2 windows factory installed as well as the roof vent.
But the sensor is just good solid thinking. Great guys keep them coming.
Thanks.

This is a "commercially sold" convertion, but shows some good ideas.

The bunks detach and fold out of the way when needed.
-
that is more like portable motel if you ask me ,very impresive that you can find the time to do all that ...
-
My bunks in my 21' enclosed are basically the same design but came off of a tugboat. very comfortable and there is four sets of bunk beds. also a rack in the back that's basically a catch all and toolbox made of sheet metal. 2x4s with coat hooks along the top walls are nice for tie down storage and other assorted clothing.

There was a good article in a 2011 issue of Fur-Fish-Game magazine about a guy that bought a cargo trailer expressly with converting it into an RV type hunting trailer, how to do it, pictures, etc. Wish I had saved the magazine, but I didn't.

I have a tent trailer ,but this upgrade to a solid box is great (no canvas to mess with) Thanks for the ideas. My wheels are churning now.
How would a small wood stove work in one of these, do you think?
-
At one point I was looking at possibly going the cargo trailer with modifications but think I have decided to pony up for a true rv toy hauler. I still think it is great that guys get creative and put the time in to convert cargo trailers. When I was looking at the possibility I always thought something like the one in the attached link would be cool. It has a lot of references photos sources of info, etc.

Should have known better than to ask you guys this question.. :yike:
Now my conversion is going to really put a dent in the bill fold.. :chuckle:
I like the entertainment/power supply center.
The awning is on its way.
The E-trac is on its way. ;)
I will post some pictures as the build gets underway.
I pick up the trailer today at 11:00.
Then lets get this party started. I think maybe a little long gun vault might be in order..
Thanks guys for the ideas and the links.
Rock on lets roll.

My main concern is making sure there is a way to get out easily in case of fire--in BOTH ENDS. Windows, even high ones are a nice touch too. Makes it less like a dungeon, and one window could serve as a fire escape. RVs are pretty, but Cargo Trailers are built a lot stronger, and the work and expense to convert one for hunting/fishing/toy hauling/camping is worth it, IMHO.
-
well here are the first couple of pictures.
It has a cargo door, A man door and a window on each side.
It came with a Mr Buddy heater (Like New) and the top has had Linex bed liner professonal applied (It looks great and insures a water tight seal)
All in all the little " Love Shack" is going to be nice.
I will post more pictures as the Mods get under way.

Whitey,
When I bought my utility trailer, I also bought one of these strong, plastic lockable storage containers that attach onto the front of the trailer, behind where your tongue jack is. It wasn't very expensive, about $90 I think, but I was amazed at how much it can hold. Gives you a ton more storage room.
-
The other cool thing a about a cargo trailer is you save soem $$$ by not having to pay the extra RV add ons for your tag. :twocents:

NRA4LIFE
That would be awesome. Maybe a diamond plated box for a little bling bling. But I was also thing about putting My propane tank and 12 volt battery for my inverter up there I will have to see how much real estate I have up there.
Great Ideas.
Special T
You got that right. The "Red Neck" R.V. It will be fun to see what comes of this build..
-
Great looking trailer that should work out it is nice it already has windows.
Looks like I might be picking up a bigger one tonight if it checks out and will be doing a lot of customizing on it since it will be our camper for the summer and my hunting shack in the fall. Looks like I am going to have to sell my old one.
Whitey where did you get the awning? That and windows are going to be one of my first purchases..
-
Windows are a must. as well as some kinda insulation. mine sweats like crazy after two nights of heater use.

Don't have any pictures of mine on this computer, but it's along the same lines. We decided to use our 27' Interstate snowmobile trailer for an elk/deer/antelope/camp/whatever else trailer about 10 years ago.
The things I've done, (so far);
I put in additional wiring for both 120vac and 12vdc. Both inside and out.
I have a Yamaha generater and a 12v 4D battery (actually it's in the Cat at the moment), under one of the trapdoors in the floor.
The other trapdoor is for folding chair/whatever else storage.
Suburban propane RV furnace; I relocted the sail switch in it so I could mount it flat on the wall, so it doesn't take up as much room inside. However, I would do it a little different next time and put in in an enclosed box under the deck of the trailer and duct it up about four inches on the inside of the wall. I put a 12hr timer in line with the thermostat so it will shut itself off at a preset time.
We just use cots and foam mattresses to sleep on at the moment. We put a hide-a-bed in it once, but the bed wasn't as comfortable as a cot/foam.
I built an adapter plate/fitting to run a chimney out one of the 12x12 fuel doors so I could burn wood, but I haven't used it. My brother-n-law has a woodstove in his, and we've slept in it on snowmobile trips. It will roast you out, (unless you are sleeping on the floor)!
I ordered mine from Interstate already completely insulated; floor, walls, and ceiling.
I put two 120v Cadet heaters in the walls, opposite corners.
I put the spare tire under the floor on a crank down spare tire thing from a Toyota. They come from the trailer factory mounted to the inside wall, and are always in the way.
My wife put one of those pull out single line clothes lines on each side of the furnace tha will reach across to the opposite wall to dry clothes on.
I bought a 6' kitchen counter from an older camper van. It takes two people to pack it in and then I just bolt it to the floor. I have a "T" in the propane line that goes to the furnace and that's where I plug in the hot water heater/stove hook-up. It's not pretty but it works. The counter has a sink, with a fresh water tank and a grey water tank underneath, behind the drawers, so it's a pretty self contained unit. I got the belly mount propane tank from the same guy who was parting out a camper van.
Towed the jet sled up into it a few years back with a quad, and took it over to Lake Roosevelt. Was nice having two quads, a boat, and a warm dry place to stay, and still have a truck to drive up into the hills to go hunting. I got some looks at the Hunters campground when I backed the boat out of that trailer with the quad. I recall we didn't even use either quad other than to unload and load the boat.
I also put a 60 gallon fuel tank under the floor as well. Used to make me nervous sleeping on top of a potential bomb. Don't think about it much anymore.
That's about all I can remember right now. Oh yeah, I built some aluminum shelves for it with coat hangers underneath. Also, I built a helmet rack. It's a work in progress. I do know that when the weather is really bad outside, it's way better than our wall tent.
Still don't have a decent stereo, or a flat screen... Someday, we will start spending more time inside than out and those things will become more important I guess. 'Til then, all we use it for is transporting/sleeping/and eating. We don't need anything fancy.
