Whats up bros., I was enjoying our nice weather today and an idea came to mind... I was wondering if its a good idea to hunt in Idaho this year for elk instead of my usual trip the Blues during the early archery. I see bulls every year, big bulls and all I can do is admire them and tak my trophy video home as a proof of their exsistence in the wilderness. So, I have been training hard for a backcountry hunt and testing my gear for an all out hunting while trying to get away from the crowds. I have never killed a bull elk before and I am looking for a best DIY opportunity on one. I am willing to do the work but I am willing to try new grounds for one chance on killing a bull elk. I just need a starting point and I think I can figure out the rest. I am always open to suggestions, specially from very skilled and experienced hunters in this forum. Now, if I get drawn for a bull tag in the Blues....then you know where I will be come September. Thanks for all your input on this and Happy hunting everyone.

clarkia. theres your starting point.

Someone on here said there were no bulls in the blues :dunno:

Why anyone would spend time hunting spike elk is mind boggling to me. There is no way you would catch me hunting the blue's for a spike elk. Go to Idaho and hunt elk and thank me later.

Sounds like good advice to me!

Try putting in for unit 18 archery elk, I hunted it for rifle a few years ago and would love to hunt it with my bow. Good luck, and once you find your home in Idaho you'll wish you started hunting there years ago.

Head to south Idaho. If you want more info on a unit - PM me....

18 is fun.. but be ready to hike your arse off in some extremely steep and rugged terrain and have horses ready to pack out in the wilderness portion
