I have run partitions in both for years. In recent years my friend at nosler has talked me into running the accubonds and etips. Both outstanding bullets and both have there places. 140g accubond in the 270's and 180g etip in the 300 win mag. I have shot both my bears with the etips and both have been dead on contact

I'm not sure on the .270, but if I remember right, H4350 is the go to powder and 130 gr bullets are what are favored.

300WM, I use over 80gr of H1000 and 168 gr Barnes TSX or 180gr Hornady or Speer bullets.

As far as the better round between 308 and 30-06...........the 06 has a little more speed and is probably a better all around cartridge.  165gr bullets in .308 or 30-06 is fairly standard.

.270 Win. H4350 and a 130 Accubond, stuffed several mule deer in the sage with the combo. I use the same combination in the .270 WSM. Here are some 300 yard groups with the combo.

I would take the 06 over a .308 every time and a .300 Win mag over the two if it were a option. You can load the .300 down to 06 velocities but you can't load the 06 up. ;)

.300 Win Mag. RL-22 and a 165 Ballistic tip for plinking, coyotes and Rockchucks. I run the same load with 165gr Nosler Accubonds for big game, they shoot same point of impact. I like the 165's because you get more speed (Flatter shooting) than the 180's and every deer I have shot with the 165's was dead on the spot as with the 180's. Here are some groups with RL-22 and the 165's.

The .300 Win Mag is a cartridgenthat likes to be pushed , it performs best at it's upper velocities. It is a very forgiving cartridge to load for. It's hard to get loads that won't shoot in a quality rifle. It likes being loaded into the lands, just kissing them and will shoot just as well with 40 thou plus jump. It's a great cartridge, one of my favorites as is the .375 H&H and the 7x57.

(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi90.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk269%2Flandonmoses%2FDSC05354.jpg&hash=24751924ed3f4f552368a3860edf51a18837a3bf)

The target bellow was shot at 400 yards from the prone, with a 300 yards zero. I was checking my real world drop from my 300 yard zero at 400 yards. It was spot on with my ExBall ballistics program. My aiming point was center of the orange. There was a slight right to left breeze but not enough to matter if I was shooting at a deer, so I didn't add any wind dope on the scope.

I'm liking those CCI 250 more and more over the Federal 215 matches everyday and I've been pretty much shooting the 215's  exclusively in my magnums for 15 or so years.

270 win
59.7 gr.  H4831sc
Barnes 130 TTSX
.055 off the lands
Federal brass
Federal 210M primer

5 shots in 3/4" if I am patient and don't heat the barrel up.

I used to really fancy the 270win. Most of my life I have ate because I shoved a 130gr speed hot-cor with 57-59grs of imr 4831. I have had superb luck with that load in over a dozen guns. I use simple hot-cor speer bullets because they were made to work the velocity window of the win and have performed perfect for me.

58.5 grains of 4831 (1970's stock) under a 140 gr. hornady boat tail, lit with a CCI 250 Mag rifle primer.     the bolt can get a little sticky, so work up to it.   :chuckle:

Great input guys ,thanks ..... it is interesting to see that lot of you use the CCI 250 magnums instead of large rifle primers .So 724wd how did you managed to have 1970 stock of powder ?

In the 270 I perfer IMR-4831 for all my handloads. The 140 BT and AB at 2990 with remmy brass and cci-200 primers remains my favorite combo. For the 300 mag I,ve had excellent results with H-4831 and either the 180 PT or gameking. Been playing with 180 AB,s lately. There definitly accurate in my 700 BDL. I,d perfer an 06 to a 308 as well. I like the 06 pushing 200 grain PT,s along around 2600. Good load.

After ladder testing both my Win Model 70's in .270 I came up with a similar group as Bighammer. Like CarpsniperG I prefer the Noslers but use the partition mostly.

Powder - H4831SC - 57gr., 130gr. Partition, CCI 200 primer, Seated 3.340

Every time !! This is the 319.00 Bi-Mart Rem700 ADL, bone stock that shot those groups at 300. I have put a truck load of $$$ into customs to get them to touch 3 at 300 yards and a 319 buck rifle will do it time and time again if I drive it right.

The secret is the REDBULL!  ;)

Rockchucks/Grounhogs are my addiction. Here in central WA my personal best is 176 in a spring/ summer, loads of fun. Most of those were shot with a 300 Win mag, 180 BT and RL-19.

A few years ago in a hurry and loaded 20 rounds at partners house with just the light through the window. Went out for the evening hunt and afterwards decided it would be smart to shoot and make sure they went bang. Recoil seemed abusive and bolt was reluctant to open. Drove back and checked the scale 60 grains imr 4831, not good! I'm sure velocity was impressive but when your primers disappear it might be a sign of excess pressure.

Yea boy. 60grs. of IMR-4831 would be over doing it. I use lots IMR-4831 and H-4831. They are not the same. The IMR version will do anything the H version will do with three grains less powder.
