Title: Need a .22LR for hunting
Post by: Nibornos on May 10, 2012, 11:24:43 AM: I am looking to get a .22 LR hunting rifle. Can you guys suggest some decent ones for me?

Something reliable, and consistant.

Semi--the ruger 10/22 and rem 522 are good.

Nice, I’ve never seen one, they must be new. The only concern that I would have is the scope mounts are on the receiver and with the barrel coming on and off it may not stay true. The sights are both on the barrel so that would not be an issue unless scoped.

Post by: washelkhunter on May 10, 2012, 12:22:32 PM: I like the marlin mo: 60. Its a 14 shot tube fed semi auto. Its got a longer barrel then others and is very accurate. Shoot cci 22 lr minimag ammo and put a scope on it.

Nothing wrong with a good bolt, but this statement is absolutely true. A 10/22 is synonymous with .22 shooting or hunting. :tup:

i also the second the Marlin Model 60. I have a stainless version and other than hosing out the action after rapid firing, it's foolproof! no magazines to load or lose :tup: with a uber-cheap scope, it'll rattle a popcan forever!

I have a MkII BV, a bunch of friends that have all shot it refer to it as "The Death Ray". At some point I should step up and put a real quality scope on it but the damn thing is zeroed in so perfectly that I don't want to mess with it!

Best of all, it likes cheap Armscor ammo!

That's the one I want. I'll be getting one soon, hopefully. I've gone too long without a good 22 rifle. If I had a little more money I'd probably get a CZ.

It's what I take when in treding thought the brush for fast shots. For the longer shots I have a S&W M&P 15-22 with a scope. Both ate awesome and both have their purpose. But the trusty pump is usually what I reach for. It really comes
Down to where and what your hunting. If its the thick stuff get something with open sights if it's something for more open Longer shots go scoped. Reuger 10/22 is jar to beat IMO

I'm curious to see what improvement it will make over bone stock. I've done the trigger and all the little stuff inside like bolt buffers, extended mag release, etc. I'll post some pics when it's said and done.
One rifle I will never get rid of is a .22lr I grew up with. It's a Sears model 1 bolt action...single shot, no mag, no tube...1 at a time load. It shoots bug holes.

I have an older one I mounted a Bushnell fixed 4x scope and sling. The thing is great. Those take down models are awesome! I'm trying to talk my wife into buying me one for my birthday :)

Nice guns, great barrel as ALL of the Marlin micro-groove barrels seem to be (I've got six or more...). The Model 60 has been, for me, a pain to take apart and clean.

I like my Remington heavy barrel target rifle, but I don't hike around with it much. :chuckle:

then you take all your old parts, put them back together and get a new gun, then start another build.

Pretty much any modern 22 will be of decent quality. I like the 10/22 with a good red dot, or even a good pistol with a red dot. Marlin 60 is also a nice gun if you want a bit slimmer profile. The CZ and Savage are good quality bolt rifles as well as the Browning.

Old Mossbergs are very plentiful and very accurate, plus they can be found in any profile and cheap.

Ya except the finance department (read wife) couldnt under stand that much into 1 .22 let alone another

About two years ago, a buddy's sister got one that was on special and it was a serious lemon. The mag fell out after certain number of shots..but if you actually wanted to pull the mag out it would get stuck. It jammed constantly, couldn't group well, misfired a few times. It rattled. I don't know if it was made on contract out of different grade parts, but that gun was horrible. All the other 10/22s I've played with have been really good, though.
