Title: Northeast Montana
Post by: buckmaster_wa on August 05, 2008, 03:14:35 PM
I know this is a sight for Washington success, but I am really looking forward to my Montana trip this year. I will be heading over to the northeast corner from Nov 8th to the 16th. Have any of you guys had good success in that area? If so post some pics.

A few years back I saw a few dandy's while chasing monster bulls on the reservoir.

We used to hunt around Jordan. We killed quite a few deer, but no monsters.

I took this last year just a little south of Malta.  Pretty much between Winnett and there.  Lots of Elk.  Also took a pretty decent Whitetail on the trip as well.  Mulies were plentiful just didn't see any real monsters worth going after.

Keep in mind where your headed and the area around Miles City area pretty different.  I've actually hunted both places....Miles City area more, but where your headed it's not as wide open.  Don't get me wrong.....it's still great Muley country, just more timber and elevation changes then farther east.

I have hunted the Miles City area the last two years.  I was fortunate to hunt some great ranches and saw some great deer.  In 2006, I had a tag and hunted the last week of season.  It seemed like the 22-24" bucks were chasing does, but the big boys weren't coming out until after dark.  I did find a 175" 3x4 and a 185" four point, but only after five days of hard hunting.  Last year, we went the first week of season and it was much better than going late the year before.  We saw over 50 bucks the first day - probably 25 4-points and 3 or 4 toads.  I was without a tag so had to watch in horror and my hunting partner ran out of patience and killed a 165" buck the first day(We saw a 190" buck the night before season).  I have tag this year and am going the first week and then heading to CO for third season mule deer.  Hopefully, the big boy is still around!
