Hi, my name's pete, I've only posted a few times before but I've read a fair amount here and learned some great stuff so thanks to everyone. I'm going to get a chance to turkey hunt at the end of the season, probably around the 23-31st and I am super excited since I haven't been in two years. I have one place in mind that I am going to try first that I found quite a few birds in two years ago, but I'd like to have a backup if the spot isn't as great as it was then. It is near kettle falls, but I am wondering if I take HWY 20 east out of colville will that get me up into some national forest or other public land with some hunting opportunities? I'm not asking for any specific spots just wondering if that is a good way to head if I end up needing to find a new spot. Thanks a lot for any help and good luck to everyone in the rest of the season. Hopefully I can get my first turkey and post a story with some pics.

Little penn wildlife area. Free camping, lots of birds. But they are scary smart.

Tons of public land north, east, west, and south of Colville & Kettle Falls ... but stop at the DNR office in Colville and get a map so you know where its at ... I've taken birds off the Little Pend O' Wildlife Refuge, state land off Haller Creek, state off of Lindsey Road, state land north of H-way 20 (up Vanasse or Pinsgston Creek), and seen birds on just about every other piece of state land in the area.
:dunno:
That said they have probably been hammered by every call known to man and bumped more often than a New York City taxi cab.
:yike:
I'ld definitely call soft and occassional and use his natural curiosity and sex drive against him. Good luck ...

Lots of public land, get a map as other suggested, you will need to watch for fresh sign and hunt when you see fresh sign because I don't expect a lot of birds to be talking that last week. The hunting is good right now.

Yup, don't leave your truck unlocked. They'll hotwire it and drive it off... :chuckle: :chuckle:
