Title: Toaster II, from washington
Post by: dukethedog on May 15, 2012, 09:47:23 PM
I pulled the trigger!  I did it.  I bought a rig that I can surf/kite and bird hunt out of with no problem.  I can have my buddies in it, there wet dogs, spill beers, ect.  I picked up a 1976 dodge sportsman with bunks for bro's and there kids.  I did the belts, battery, alternator, the tranny filtere and fluid and rear end, vibration dampner at the end of the tail housing, replaced the rear wall.  Were putting in a rhino lined floor, and making it the TOASTER II.  (yes, I'm a benny spies fan).  I live at snoqualmie pass.  My goal is to make new bro's.   :yike:  I have a two year old that will be almost three this comming season.

I like to upland hunt, have a good dog and am looking for bro's to travel with, have a good time with, I want to learn how to water fowl hunt, ect.  I'm looking for bro's

By hunting season, all the bugs will be worked out of the RV, so if your looking to put the hurt on some birds, lets hook up.

The goal is to have fun, teach our kids how to hunt, fish and have a good time.  Just picture the toaster.......

I can send email attachements as pictures.  If you have ideas, on what you would do.  Please let me know.  I'm strarting to work on the inside.  Currently I'm looking for a gun rack and a way to store fly rods.  Later.

Currently I'm looking for a gun rack and a way to store fly rods.  Later.

If your doing it Benny style, the 4" or 6" PVC water/sewer pipe hard mounted to the outside of the rig with threaded caps should be the ticket!

If you don't like the outside, you could do the ceiling inside?

Digging that!  Great ideas.

I like your style.....its a cross between benny spies and a cuban theme :IBCOOL:

We will kite and surf out of it during the summer, hunt all winter.  I'm looking for anything....old mounted pheasants ect.

Thanks for that brother...

alright so As you can see, I got into some rot, then just tore out the wall.  Thats the start of teh wall replacement.  I have got flat sheeted galvanized steel.  I will cut that tonight, have it up this weekend and sealed this week.  I will re roll the roof and then get to work on the inside.  I may replace the water pump (sounds like a good idea) and I'm going to have my buddy rework the 2 barrel carb.  The choak is sticking.  From there, we'll start working on the inside.  mammas having a baby in the next two weeks, so proress will slow down.   :hello:

Well it won't stop raining.......so I started working on the inside.  I put down a sealent on the floor.  we'll see if I leave it or do something elce.  I used that goofy floor sealer with the flakes in it you can get from home depot.  I think it looks like crap.  But we'll see.

Does anyone know about heating systems, propane systems, toilets and stuff for rv's?  I could use some help figuring it out to make sure they won't blow up the "trash stream toaster II."

Thanks

Trust me.......you don't want to see the inside.  :puke:

But heres a update.....it smell like cat pea when I got it.  So with a exception of the green shat carpet on the roof of the cab.  It got gutted to the wood.  All carpet, padding, drawers, padding, bedding, curtins EVERTHING IS GONE.  I will take some pics before I start on the inside.

So far, total coast 1600.00, including the rig.    :chuckle:

I'm chasing a elcetrical demond :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

I have to tighten down my drivers side motormount, I get some big lift on that side and its twisting the driveline. It gives me some saking in the rear end....don't get me wrong I like shaking in the rear end :yike:

cheers

We rebuilt a 12 foot camp trailer like that. Used lots of the putty roll stuff sealing it up. We had all the seats and bed cushions reupholstered with a camo canvas material. Installed a gas lantern, and an old school propane fridge. Gave it to a buddy a few years back. Was a cool elk camp.

It's hard to beat linoleum for a floor.

A propane fridge is mandatory.  After that, a working stove wouldn't suck.  The rest is gravy.  Water and toilet are just tanks to fool with.

SO

I'm in the process of gutting the inside as you all can see and MR JEEP was kind enough to illustrate for me.  ITs raining today up here so I will sanding, hopefully can take care of most of the sanding befor the painting today.

To take care of fishing fowlers concerns.  All the propane lines are new, so are the water lines.  THe lines to the stave are new, I just have had the sack to pressureize the tank.

The fridge is brand new multi gas, but I haven't fired it up yet, and I'm thinking of just putting a block of ice in the ottom of it in a sack to cool off the goods.  Its actually not a super concern yet.

Dry and reliable for now.  But yes, some hot soup and a steak at the end of the day would be nice.

Just a update.

New plugs are in, had to shave part of the header to get the larger deep socket in.  That sucked :pee:

started painting the doors and drawers lime green after a lot of sanding and taking hardware off.

Started stripping the kitchen wall so I can put a back splash up.   :mgun:

And I finally took all my chiefs money for the first time at poker last night..... :kneel:

Every good rig needs dice......
We have good oil pressure!!!!!  Oil pressure is handy......
The rig is gutted.

To do:

Paint all the cubbard doors and drawers........LIME GREEN!   :lol4:
figure out a back spalsh........
Finish the flooring
Make the cushings
Find lime Green bedding
Figure out the heating system
Figure out how to start the fridge.......which is propane.

Then we should be able to run it to the gorge in oregon to kite for the summer.

Buttttttttt......I'm starting a month long job on the waterfront 6-7 days a week 12-15 hour days..... :ACRY:

Head down GSP, Eye on the prize~

So I'm getting reay to make a trip to oregon for the first time.  It has been quite the hawl.  REcently we have replaced the entire electrical system and setting the timming.  The lights have been insane.  At one time we had the timming 180 off and caught the dash on fire from the flames blowing out the carb.   :yike:

The floors are in, the fridge works when shore power is plugged in, so I'm sure it will work when the propane is filled.  The heater fan runs, so I'm hoping that it will start up when the propane is filled too.

however I have a bad ground somewhere.......so my battery dies constantly.  i'm going to have to pull it out when I get to where I'm going.  Beds are in, seats are in, bunks are in, sheets are on.  Its has a bit of "wow thats bright!"  But its suppose to be fun, not serious.  so we will see.

Hope all is well.  Have a good day guys!

BUZZZZZKILLLLLLL :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

Your right, I unpluggeed the rv to drive it around, and now the fridge won't work.  So were back to the block of ice in the bottom of the fridge.  I'm thinking of a quick test run before I take it surfing for the month.  .

I think I'll run the dog to the desert.

Thanks for the advice.

Trip Report

Snoqualmiem Pass to the Deschutes area of Oregon.....

Ran like a dream.  Held oil pressure, Never had to back shift on any of the passes, the engine ran like a dream.  Not that fast, but 41 on the climbs, 51 on the flats and 60-65 on open highway no issues.  We'll leave it down there for a bit, then bring it back before hunting season.

I LOVE Camper/RV rebuilds like the one you have done... Done one for my own hunting/camping trailer that is all go and no show... Just a couple of questions and thoughts... For you battery drain you can put in an isolator. Many boats have an battery isolator that you can swith between engine, home and both. That way while driving you charge both batteries and then when you get there you isolate you engine batterie to OFF so that it cant drain.  :twocents:  One other thought for your power is to get some of those Harbor freight solar pannels to keep the juice up, if you can plug in its not an issue but...

Did you use Pex or wirsbo pipe? Considering where you live those work awesome...
Title: Re: Toaster II, from washington

How easy are solar pannels?

So on propane, my freezer works awesome, but the fridge stays luke cool-warm.  Now the fins are cool, so I'm going to look for a sealing issue, but i'm interested in solar pannels for sure...

Sorry, all pipping is was brand new, theres both, but were not keeping it up here.

I think it may be a feone coolant issue I'm having the same kind of problme with mine right now... Trying to figure out if i should have it repaired or just pulled out. They make 12 volt coolers with a built in cooling system for the stuff you MUST keep cold...
